Many famous Renaissance artists/thinkers were homosexual; nobody dared to stomp on their feet. What difference would that make today? How is what we call "reality" "known?" You will talk about the senses no doubt. There is a way of knowing about reality that is direct and not mediated by the senses or reason. St. Thomas called it "infused contemplation."
