Thanks for posting, I remember my days as a scout and we used to retire the flag with the local American Legion this brought back fond memories and a tear to my eye thanks
@ArtisanTony I have several flags in a closet that are due for retirement from being outside my house I'll be delivering them to the legion tomorrow properly folded and covered by a paper sack thanks again you have a new sub
@getnick77 We have several more to do also at our next camp fire meeting. We are going to try to do a better job at getting everyone in uniform and lines memorized. Thanks for your comments.
Thank you for teaching our young men the good stuff. It occured to me that I have seen our flag burned by some really vile people in my life. But never with such reverence and respect. This does my heart good. Please thank those young men for us.
Great job! They seemed very sincere about it. I was in Scouts for a number of years (dropped out just short of Eagle, HUGE REGRET), and do not recall ever doing this. That includes a couple of years of working with a Webelos group.
@tnoutdoors9 Thanks! I have a similar story but was not that close to Eagle. I also regret not staying in scouting and hope Alex will continue. He will as long as I can influence him :) This will be my last year as Alex's den leader before he moves on to Boy Scouts and I have been wanting to do a flag retirement ceremony for a while. We are going to do another one at our year end campfire.
I was a Weblos Den Leader years ago, and our pack was given the privilege of taking down the huge flag that flies over Fort Sumter in SC. Scouting just provides such great learning experiences all around. I just realized something, those kids from my old pack have graduated college by now. Wow, how time flies!
@thebudgetarmory1 Wow! That sounds like an honor. I have seen large flags cut where the blue field is removed and then the stripes. Did you have to do this? Thanks!
God bless America, our heroic men and women in uniform, our police, and fireman and the Boy Scouts of America. Thanks Tony, and Alex, for this beautiful and inspiring video. "Semper Fidelis"
It was cute when the kid felt like he dropped it in the fire wrong and said Dam. Nice video, I was waiting for this after you posted the other video's on it.
@marcelloviscardi I was afraid he was going to fall in. I think his dad decided he would place the rest of the flags in the fire :) That was his father, master of ceremony.
@marvintheboon Thanks! We had a few scouts out of uniform but this lesson was learned and our next ceremony in a few months will go better. They did well for their first try :)

@getnick77 This was my first flag retirement so it was pretty neat being a den leader and doing this for the first time.

Simple, respectful and beautiful.
Thank you, Tony and to your den for allowing us to be there.

much respect is required, and as I see was rendered.
It is not sad, but ceremonial. As our great civil servants,
we serve, with honor, and are allowed to retire, with dignity.
Well done Webelos.
(salute with the right hand)
