I think they're about equal...Radiohead was very creative in writing and composing the actual awesome song, and Punch Bros are very creative in taking the electronic component out and it still being awesome. Both get thumbs up and a bit of jealous rage from me
@aavindraa Yes, I would say that this is better. There aren't even any solos in Radiohead's version. And it doesn't have NEAR the energy that this does.
No 21/16, only a few bars throughout which, if counted in an isolated setting, have an extra sixteenth note. And yes, the banjo player rocks in general.
@thefoolandthemoon I really hope that you arnt serious..... I just saw Bela down at Targhee and i was so disappointed. Though Bela was a huge influence on Noam, Noam has easily surpassed Bela. Noam is the next generation of the banjo.
@kaylacook1 They are going to be playing at the Targhee Bluegrass Festival in August or September. You should go. They put on an amazing show. You can find their tour dates on their website.
@thedanielrecord - Please enlighten me as to the location of this extra 16th note. The song is certainly NOT performed in 21/16, so I'm assuming you and @ckstewarrt2012 are referring to an isolated incident. So either I am largely missing something, or the syncopation is going above some folks' heads.
@ckstewart2012- Do you actually know what free jazz is? This isn't an example of it. And if it was, that wouldn't make it bad. I personally don't listen to much free jazz but I respect that it requires immense musicainship. These guys have the musicianship to do it if want to - but they aren't trying to here. Chris Thile may well be the most techincally advanced and veratile mandolin player of all time in western music. There is an extra 16th note but that doesn't equate to free jazz.
Oh yeah, and if I worked in an office all day, and the Punch Bros showed up, you'd better believe I'd scream my head off if I were anything but not satisfied with the performance.
I am totally blind so I beg that you forgive me if my fingers sometimes slip when I am posting comments on Youtube. In the future, I will write them in MS Word to Avoid these mistakes. I understand how incorrect spelling clearly defines a persons ability to make a cogent point.
I listened once more just to make a point. Did they intentionally use incorrect time, or will they pass that off as artistic choice? And, by the way, what a reaction, eh? The completely apathetic "Woo!" coupled with the scattered applause really says enough.
Okay, where to begin? How about some morons attempting free jazz at the beginning follow by rediculous puking all over a gorgeous tune? These guys should be in jail for this performance. Chris, you're good, but you're not God. I offer my true identity and e-mail address as a welcome invitation to anyone who wishes to have a musical

This is exactly what a cover should be like. Chris Thile is playing his interpretation of the song.

One thing is covering and another is composing. The credit always goes to the composers.

Best acoustic unit around right now, hands down: melodically, taste, songwriting and chops. Punch Brothers. Top 'em if you can.

I just saw these guys live last night, absolutely incredible.

Leave it to the Punch Brothers to one up Radiohead at their own song...
And im not sure who the best banjo player is right now, but I'd hope we can all agree that Bela has, by far, the least taste.

@CollinPlaysBass: Heh, I wouldn't say this is better. Radiohead's is better (at least the Kid A version).

@ckstewart2012 Dude...Radiohead themselves couldn't survive that. 5/4. Totally.

@ckstewart2012 i get seriously annoyed at conceited theory nerds who overcomplicate everything just to sound smart. morning bell is clearly in 5/4.

For the record, e-mail me directly, and I will happily explain at length how, in fact, Radiohead uses free jazz regularly. I'm done.
