because it is very very early in a career of a producer to get this award. he made some of the most memorable productions possible. in the later years it is good he got it because he can't achieve what he has done ini the 70s and 80s.

THEY, being the Academy truly don't like Lucas. He never films or has anything to do with HOLLYWOOD, cept make those deals. HE is not a member of DGA or anything. HE left years ago, after he didn't want to do it THEIR WAY. And in the meantime Lucas made over what? billion off Star Wars, and Indiana Jones. SO who cares. LOL. IT is the case, Lucas does it all his way. AND truly doesn't need the blessings of the OLD stuffy Academy. Very Good Lucas.
