  • how stoned is the crowd ?

  • daddy like

  • I don't see Nick Lowe, but I do see Richard Thompson...and this might be the one of the best line-ups ever!

  • The music will never stop.

  • My respect for "Elvis" has just gone through the roof.

  • These guys burned it down at the gath. of the vibes this weekend!!!!!

  • I cannot like this enough.

  • @RTFan- I wonder at how far we tread form EC and T Jed, but the mando cafe comments are unsourced. At Contemplator com hack child hack mattie html the 'traditional' shady grove melody as midi for mattie groves

  • ya gotta love a tele with p-90s.

    what an asshole!

  • @edslides1 Richard Thompson isn't an asshole..is he?

  • @hicks727

guitar joke. great player. i just meant its odd that he would put p90s on a tele.

  • @edslides1 Kinda thin sounding you're right. Always loved Pete's sound with the P 90s in the SG. Can you even buy a tele w/ p90s??

  • @edslides1 I think the guitar was borrowed for the occasion

  • fuckin' Levon fuckin' Helm........one of a kind

  • Awesome!!!

  • wow! sweeeeeet....!

  • the bass player isn't even playing!! watch him in the video; It clearly does not match the audio!

  • @cpsutliff there's two bass players for some reason....stood next to each other. Strange.

  • @suedehead3 One i Nick Lowe, a guest for the show that night. The other is Elvis' bass player from the imposters - the "house band".

  • @cpsutliff that's Nick Lowe, I'm sure he was there for his own part of the show. He doesnt like to just stand around on stage empty handed.

  • real real crunchy.

  • fenders, fenders, everywhere, and plenty of tubes to carry them!

    yeah.

    killer tones!

  • maybe I'll recover in time to die ... PERFECTION!!!!!!!!

  • EC is a Deadhead and Jerry liked EC...played a little secret gig together in Mill Valley back in the early 80s...plus EC recorded China Doll too...

  • @ClueSign not very secret, at sweetwater, it was somebody's birthday (Bobby?).. the show was circulating a week later.

  • Freakin' awesome !

  • Freakin' awesome !

  • Just fantasic.

  • Thompson is just doing the minimum, though perfectly competently, probably doesn't know the unique Dead songbook at all. Road not taken. His Shady Grove is also very different from Grisman and Garcia's.

Great to see Allen Toussaint on this - since Jerry was such a big fan of his.

  • Of course, Thompson, with Fairport all those years ago, used the melody for Shady Grove for their version of Matty Groves.

  • @RTFan52 umm. yeah. only matty groves dates to at least the 17th c. shady grove is the cleaned up appalachian derivative, and trad arr. not original to the marin kiddos.

I love GD best, but they are certainly dissable and oft dissed. RT played very nicely with (deadhead) Henry Kaiser.

  • @dennywolfe I think there's a lot of confusion about the origins of Matty Groves/Shady Grove. I'm no expert. While the lyrics to Matty Groves are indeed quite old, I've read that Fairport were the first to use them with that particular melody. Could be wrong though.

  • @dennywolfe Youtube wouldn't let me post my last comment til I removed the link I was trying to put in, but if you google manolinecafe and Matty Groves, you might find a forum where this is discussed.

  • This F'n rocks!! Allan Toussaint, NIck Lowe and Levon Helm....awesome

  • @harrysson268 And the great Larry Campbell!

  • F'n right on!!! Wasn't that long ago RT dissed the Dead...hehe...karma works in strange ways.

  • @bermudadog When did Thompson diss the Dead? That ain't cool, man!

  • My friend saw RT at a show in N.Y. Some one called out a request for a Dead tune... Apparently RT said something like "all those years searching for the perfect note and never finding it. I only play songs that require practice and dedication" or something along those lines. Anyhow RT jokes around a lot so I'll give him a pass.. just this once!

  • That's Richard Thompson with the beret and the pretty eggshell blue tele!
