@3023597 No, it's a shift light; this is simply the ECU telling the driver "Hey dude you need to shift or I'll blow!" But especially in modified cars that isn't always the case and with highly modified cars going past that will lead to faster times and quicker spool up in the next gear.

People who get really into it remove that bulb entirely and install an aftermarket shift light, usually located at the left side of the dash between the windshield and the pillar.

@iSsquared ... it doesnt matter about the engine not being able to handle 200mph. that doesnt matter. some engines cannot push the transmission on 5th or 6th gear past a certain speed. it all has to do with the gearing and how much hp the engine has. you could gear an evo to top out in 6th at 50mph if you wanted to. its not all about the engine when dealing with top speed and acceleration

The block is responsible for combustion, which creates the power that is transferred out as torque to the transmission. iSsquared is partially correct...a stock block could not handle the power necessary to reach 200 MPH, it would blow up. To reach that speed, transmission and engine mods are necessary.
