We should all write to the Hall of Fame Listing all of these great doo wop groups who deserve to be in the Hall Of Fame, maybe we can start a movement. Certainly all of our music is better than all of the stuff that is out now.
I saw Pookie Hudson and the Spaniels at least two times in the D.C. area live back in the late 1970's. might have been at the old Howard theater which was just being renovated or the Warner theater. pookie was the original Ice man along with sonny till
I agree, Pookie Hudson had a one of a kind sound. Many came behind him trying to duplicate his style and sound but no one quite made it. RIP Mr. Hudson, you are missed.
Takes me back to the 8th grade doing homework and listening to EVERYONES LAUGHING. I love this group and if the above is true and they are not in RnRHoF,
it is a horrible oversite and needs to be corrected ASAP.
THEY SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, THEY SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, THEY SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME FROM DAY ONE, INJUSTICE INJUSTICE INJUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
James Hudson had an incredibly smooth vibrating tenor lead sound, supported by the ethereal gospel tinged harmonies of his group, with the big bass under it all. Polished and soulful in just the right measure. This group had IT. Helping to civilize our more savage instincts, the role of a talented artist. Appreciations for this post.
who will be the first one and love machine by the marquees under warner bro. label are an awesome group from east los angeles also...check them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the harmonies incredible
>>> Incredibley beautiful...... nothing today can even get close to that perfection........ what an era..... Thanks PJ for sharing your awesome collection....
LOL, I used to have the 78 (near mint!) of Stormy Weather and sold it thinking "Oh well, I can always find another copy..." silly me.. ! GREAT RECORD, both sides! I have to pick up a 45 of this..
For whatever reason this is quite rare on 78. I never figured it out since some of the other Spaniels records are as easy to find on 78, if not easier
These guys had it all.. They had soul, they had one of the greatest basses, one of the greatest leads and intricate harmonies. They're even doing some blow harmony on this.. Great stuff!
i really think this song can create love out of thin air. you dont even need to have a partner. you could be walking down the street hear this song and start snuggling up to a stop sign, its that strong of a song
the spanials, the moonglows , the flamingoes, the limeliters in the 50"s and early 60's I thought and still do had the best harmony ever, and don"t forget the pips although they were behind gladys they had tight harmony
Though I have to admid I like STORMY WEATHER better -this one is good , too. Is not there best known GOOD NIGHT SWEETHEART or am I totally wrong? That would be my fav. It is one of Chuck Berry's fav, too. He even recorded it in the 60's.
I did a tribute to a labelmate of the spaniels JIMMY REED. Would be nice if you click on my name to watch it. It is DIFFERENT!
The SPANIELS had a strange way of writing their name with some marks or am I wrong again?
You are correct.. Goodnight Sweetheart is their signature song. I do like Jimmy Reed a lot as well as other Vee-Jay blues artists.. R&B wouldn't exist if it weren't for The Blues
Growing up, I listened to Pookie more than any other artist. To me he had a most original and unique sound. "Here is Why I Love You" is one of the tunes that shows his greatness, and to think that he wrote so many of their songs. Why in hell want they induct Pookie into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of fame is beyond me
Unfortunately the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame doesn't induct a lot of the original Rock and Roll groups. I don't understand the logic... This is Rock and Roll in it's purest form. Most of what the R&R Hall Of Fame inducts is "Rock" or Pop, but not the original Rock and Roll. Go figure
Good man. Going to school full time now and still working full time. Insanely busy but it'll pay off. I'm in an accelerated program so I'll have it done in less than three years.. Whew. I'm leaving for vacation in a few hours so I've got a week to kick back and enjoy myself. How have you been?
Really good, life at home has been really coming together and financials are nothing to complain about, plus I'm going away the end of June to las vegas for a weekend... (a rare thing for me: Vacation!!).
Pure class my favourite spaniels song these guys were so cool A Beautiful Doo-wop ballad..Also listern to "jesse mae" track excellent sound..........wow!!
Pookie passed a couple of years ago. 2006 I believe. What kills me I was living in Maryland in 2003. I found out that Pookie was also living in Maryland (less than an hour from me) at the same time but when I found out I was back in NJ
Just so beautiful!!!!
