* * * * There'll be no strings to bind your hands Not if my love can't bind your heart And there's no need to take a stand For it was I who chose to start I see no need to take me home I'm old enough to face the dawn Just call me angel of the morning, (angel) Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby Just call me angel of the morning, (angel) Then slowly turn away
@JavierVMaldonado Maybe the sun's light will be dim And it won't matter anyhow If morning's echo says we've sinned Well, it was what I wanted now And if we're victims of the night I won't be blinded by the light Just call me angel of the morning, (angel) Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby Just call me angel of the morning, (angel) Then slowly turn away I won't beg you to stay with me Through the tears of the day, of the years * * *
Evie Sands had the original and was the one that could not get her version played. Merrilee Rush released her version in 1968 as did Arnold. Arnold was not as popular in the US as she was in England.
There were plenty of black singers in 1968 and that was not the reason Rush's was played more. It was better produced.
shame on you pdorn fool, there where multiple versions of this song from different artist, the first was Evie Sands, so shame on all of them? Your an idiot
I'm pretty sure that you're the fool detox, if you knew anything about history you would know that it was next to impossible for someone who was black to be played on the radio. he was saying shame to american radio because they wouldn't play this version simply because she was black....welcome to the racism of the 50's and 60's america
mmm... The Best?... Juice Newton Is Probably The best, but it' just so difficult to say This is The best, so For me Juice comes First, and then all the others can Fight for the second Spot, but that's just MY OPINION...
@thehbk007 juice sings the song llke a cover version p p arnold sings it like she owns the song even though cat stevens recorded it first that is y her version is better noi arguments
Cat Stevens wrote The First Cut is the Deepest - Arnold released her version before he did, making it the original. Juice Newton recorded this song twice - the second was popular. Chip Taylor gave this song to Evie Sands who released the first version but her record company went bust and Merilee Rush came out with her version a few months later and Evie Sands's version was lost for years.

I'm bias 'cos I think PP Arnold is one of the greatest singers ever, but this is a truly great song an thebest version I've heard, I like Juice Newton's but this is the best IMO
This version is just OK. Merrilee Rush's verison still tops them all. Even though I do like the slight gospel feel in this P.P. Arnold version, it was WAY over produced.
Wow, I didn't know there were all of these versions of "Angel of the Morning". In addition to the big hit versions by Merrilee Rush (1968) and Juice Newton (1981), the only other one I know is the one by Evie Sands (1967).
