Jim Richards won by himself in '91& '92 did he?.... Anyone remember a bloke by the name of Skaife?? One of the most successful drivers in Supercar history. Probably worth a mention I would have thought
imo let the Skylines and jags back BECAUSE v8s these days are soo more complex and updated then back in the 90s when skylines were winners just look at the new FPV ford 0-100kms in under 5secconds anyway just like to say big fan of dick johnston was my favorite ford drive my mum owned a shell back in 1999 he came in once to say hello :D
Missing 14 winners this decade.the 10 codrivers, Percy(90), Skaife(91,92) Hansford (93) Bowe(94) Ingall(95) Murphy(96) Ingall (97) Steven Richards (98,99) plus the four winners of the Super Touring Bathursts in 1997/8 (Brabham/Brabham and then Rydell/Richards) which like it or not were the real 1000 in those years.
I wish they ran a second class now 30 supertourers with 30 supercars would actually be pretty awesome!
I got news for you buddy.... Mercedes benz and nissan are thinking about entering the series, but even if they do, i promise you they will be no quicker than the v8s. the rules & regulations will gurantee it will be a level playing field.
You know what made the early v8s interesting in the early 1990s? Privateers running slower, older commodores competing against the brand new, factory-backed faster commodores. Same goes with the older & newer falcons. Thats what i miss. But i certainly don't miss the jap crap competing in any class. Fuck 'em. Leave the v8s alone fuckwits!!!
Didnt say anything about the BMWs, Ford Sierras, Alfas and volvos? Do European cars exist to you? And also if you go down to the airport you can watch Falcon taxis and the rare commodore taxis race around there, and its still better that V8 supercars. Axe the V8s now while its still honorable to do so, instead of continueing till Falcon production ends.
@2GoRightGoHolden What kind of attitude is that. If "the kids who grew up with it miss out" What are they missing out on, and if they do like Holden or Ford then they would surely enjoy seeing their favourite make racing other makes and seeing them win or lose, bringing more interest.
That is the most hipocritical thing I have ever heard. Ive seen the crowd who watch V8 supercars, they couldn't tell their arse from their face. If they had any balls, or brains, they would like to see their "big V8s" race against the "jap crap" and "euro trash" and beat them...thats if they could. its more interesting and it would make more money due to more fans turning up.
@2GoRightGoHolden And WTF are the V8 supercars fans doing right now? hogging up the whole swimming pool with their crap that cant keep its head above water for much longer. What a load of bullshit, what a fucking ridiculous comment by you.
@Woodlings2 if theres one single euro car that has won me over, its the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Gullwing. brilliant car in everyway, except the cost....
Fair enough. But to say that theres only 1 dominant team in the v8s shows that you have no idea mate. Do you even watch the v8s? Doesn't sound like it.
I HATE V8 supercars, so why would I watch them? Want to know why? the deletion of other makes so it was just holden and ford, what kind of a race is that? its boring as batshit.
Theres only one dominant team? Hahahahaha mate you have no idea! When was the last time you watched them? You'd know that 888 racing, HRT & DJR have won races this year, unless you have been living under a rock, which judging by how much you've made a fuckwit out of yourself so far by attacking other people for sharing their views is more likely than not. Fuck off ya clown.
Wat about the 86 race? The differenc between the 85 & 86 commodores was the gearbox and the bodykit. Yet TWR bitched and moaned about the new commodores being illegal and they pulled out of the 86 race as a result. John goss ran a v12 jag as a privateer which had identical running gear as his 85 winning car & yet came nowhere near the top 10!!!
I dont care, at least they didnt go try to ban the commodores racing because they won too much. That would be bad sportsmanship, or booing the winners like a pack of arseholes, and then abuse all the fans who drive Aussie cars on the way out.
You love to do nothing less than state the obvious when it comes to the "that car was quicker than the commodore" argument don't ya? The jags in 1985 had a 5.2ltr v12, and the commodores had a 4.9ltr v8, and it still had to run a smaller 10in tyre & a shitload of ballast. So its obvious who was gonna win the 85 race ya mentally disturbed sack of shit. You're a fucking JOKE mate.
Its irrelevant, the mini was slow and small. But it still beat the cars with twice the power in 1965. The Jag was as I said an unreliable british car and it still beat the locals. regardless of weight or its handling which was shithouse, but it still won. And irregardless of the big cars, what about the other makes who raced, who cares if they hardly ever won but with them it made it more interesting,
And the Jaguar XJS( one of the shoddiest cars ever made) managed to beat the holdens and fords at bathurst. that says something, and Taxi racings future is doomed, so sucked in dickhead and to all those V8 supercars fans, your racing is finished soon. BTW the safety car leading the race the whole way is fun in your eyes but not mine or the majority of people.
Its was more competitive and interesting back then and i never left until the end. The big V8s were rubbish in the corners but caught up on the straights, until the GTR came along and destroyed everything in its path. All Holden and Ford had to do was make some sort of new Torana, lightweight and nimble, instead they carried on with their ancient pushrod V8s in heavy bodies and bitched when they did not win. And if you havent noticed there is always one dominant team in V8 supercrap anyway.
you should blame holdens parent company GM for not allowing holden to use a OHC or DOHC V8 or whatever, because in 1989, they had a prototype DOHC 5.0L V8 ready to go into production when GM stopped them.
@2GoRightGoHolden You are that full of your own shit that you have holden in your username, along with FPVshit on HSV, which in turn are both shat on by the Morris Marina. Yeah true. Actually when you think about it, it would have actually been 4 wins during that decade because he was leading in the final stages of the 1990 race, only to loose it when the safety car came out. Back in those days, the pit exit used to be shut when the pace car was out on the track and he got held up, allowing the Grice/Percy and Allam/Radisich cars through. Bullit proof engineering and sheer car speed is what he had to win at Bathurst.
Sooo sick of V8"supercars". boring. having never owned either a ford or holden i can't identify with them. Please bring back euro and jap cars to add some much needed variety. though im sure the bogans would say that's "un-australian" ;)
its called Australian Touring Car Racing for a reason. plus 4WD cars are/were nowhere near as exciting to watch as the current RWD Ford vs Holden format.
call me a bogan. but im proud to be a bogan. and yes i would say its unaustralian.
Not true. With Turbocharged cars or Super Tourers in general, Passing oppurtunities (given the right track) and variety in makes without the need to horribly modify every bit of the car(saving money) provided for much more exciting racing and the 1997 and 1998 Bathurst 1000's (Official/2.0 Lt Super Tourers) really showcased that. Ford V Holden is good in some ways but really lacks excitement. I won't dispute it's showcasing of Competitiveness, it really is only Super-Modded Sedans for 7 Hours.
toyota said no,but they said they might reconsider
Suzuki said no
Mitsubishi said no
Honda said no due to them only building V8s for Formula 1 ( i dont know if they still are in F1)
and nissan also said no for exactly the same reason.
i dont know about chrysler, but i'd like to see the 300C in the race. it'll be good. but please, i dont want to see jap cars. oh, and they might wanna ask dodge too.
Why does it only show one of the drivers names? eg it says Jim Richards won the 1992 bathurst 1000. but no mention of Skaife. I stopped watching this video after 1992...
The Gibson Motorsport Skylines were so good NISMO in japan looked to how gibson built the cars... and they were built so that they exploited every rule to the limit.. they were the ultimate Group A race cars
Would of loved to see the skylines piss all over the Holdens and fords through 90's too bad the 8's couldn't keep up so they kicked them from Bathurst.
hey 19escort if you think thats cool check out larry perkins in the 1993 race and see how side ways he get at 2:38 now if thats not drifting i don't know what is
I can't believe how close The Glen Seton Falcon EF (96 race) get's near the wall. If you look at 4:07 you'll see him behind the Lowndes/Murphy commodore es they exit the cutting and head up towards reid park. He was mm's away from giving it a nasty wack. Just show's how close to the limit he was driving.
Both Supertourers and V8's had their own 'Bathurst' in 97/98. Supertourers claimed they were the legitimate Bathurst because they were the original series on the traditional date, V8 claimed they were because they were racing the traditional cars with most of the drivers from the old series. History proved that V8 Supercar won in the end, and Supertouring faded into obscurity.
i reckon they looked better back then then they do now...well the oldens did...the some of the Fords look good and some were ok. But yeah. I miss watching bathurst as a kid in the 90s.
Just look at those Skyline GTR's go ..... they were awesome, and they would have continued to embarrass all others for alot longer if legal. Its a bit of a shame that it is a two horse race now days but the format does seem to work. V8 supercars just gets bigger and better each year.
The Larry Perkins footage in the wet was in 1994, not 93. That's because Peter Brock wasn't with HRT in 93. Also, you forgot about the other 2 Bathurst 1000 winners in super touring. The Brabham brothers' BMW and the Jim Richards/Ricard Rydell Volvo.
I did rain at the start in 1994. 1993 was cloudy at the start but it wasn't wet until the end. That shot of Larry going sideways through the cutting was in 1994 because that HRT commodore behind Perkins was Peter Brock & in 93 Brock drove for his own Mobil Holden team. How do I know this?. Because I have dvd's with Bathurst highlights from every year and that shot is in 1994.
Even the guy who made the movie is saying it's from 1994. I can see why you used the 94 footage because it is more exiting then anything from 1993. Do you mind if I ask why you didn't name the co-drivers?.
Perkins is a dead set show off lol, gotta love him, i have to disagree ladybytes, v8's are the only true engine to tackle the mountain always has been, all the jap s**t can f**k off sorry but thats what i feel, go Holden
Typical talk from a dead set knuckle dragging v8 fuckhead, v8 supercars r great, ilove them i never miss a race, but they r destroying motorsport for people like me who struggle to even do a club event, bring back the jap cars i say!
I would commemorate Bowe for that win more then Johnson, not taking away anything from Johnson...But bowe's racing style was the one that beat craig at the finish.
i 100% agree that v8s wouldnt be as popular with other manufacturers. but, a similar hp gtr would kill a commodore or falcon on any track. just a far better designed car, remember a gtr isnt a family car. its a performance car which rivals porsche and ferrari's off the showroom. far superior chassis and engine development. brilliant cars, i own one and also support holden. thats fair.
if they never changed it all those years ago to commodores and falcons running only v8s it would not be as popular as it is, myself and my bogan mates love it
I think the whole resetting of the race format into an effective two horse (almost control) competition is a double edged sword. The original intent of a production car based racing format has been long buried with these wind tunnel formed faceless machines circulating around our tracks now...
Lets have the same class, but with the drivers of today, not someone who just paid 130k for a racecar they r likely to sell in 10 years and make another 20k profit!
Dont get me wrong, I love the V8's and love this track with a passion - had V8's almost all of my driving life. But they are not in the same league as the GTR. I'd love to see them back again. I'm with you babyduck1 on this one... ignorance is bliss!
We need a movie made about these Dudes they are our Hero's (DAYS OF THUNDER usa) the U GOTA LOVE V8 & GROUP A RACE CARS and as for the turbo car they have their place in our race-car-history too HP is HP no matter how its delivered HAB17's moto Don't be Scared Press the Pedal ot the Metal
I remember reading that in the Herald Sun a few years ago. I think it was going to be called King Of The Mountain and Peter was going to be the main character. I might sound like a dickhead saying this but it said something about Shannon Noll was going to play as Craig Lowndes.......... How does shannon noll even look like Lowndesy?.
Nice video, really liked it. A slight disappointment that I only saw the gt-r twice, but oh well the holden commodore is a great machine as well so I don't really care :p
how so? its made the sport boring and uninteresting to watch. if i want to see ford and holden take each other on i'll sit at a sydney taxi stand and watch them battle for fares. thats all the family hacks are good for. long live godzilla!!!!!
Unfortunately majority rules, and the majority of Australian racing fans are bogans that cant take their almighty V8 being beaten by a car with a smaller engine.
Reality is that they are getting record crowds on the mountain. Touring car racing is more popular than it has ever been in Australia. So maybe we should let you run the sport, put cars in that people dont identify with, halve the crowds, get 40,000 at a Bathurst Weekend instead of over 150,000. You are a Genius!!
But if a greater variety of cars are included shouldn't it appeal to MORE people? Not everyone in this country likes only either Holden or Ford. Even the inclusion of one other make of car would be enough for me to actually bother to watch it, so why wouldn't other non V8's fans like myself take an interest if something new was included?
And a fair point you make! Im sure it would appeal to more! i guess its sort of a case of 'if it aint broke dont fix it'. I guess well have to see what future agendas may bring?. I know that suggestions by people to get rid of Holden and Ford altogether would be corporate suicide! And please dont assume that majority of V8 fans are bogans... some of us may be 'educated' and also drive a non Holden/ford? BTW over 200,000 expected at Bathurst this year.
A lot of the V8 fans I know are bogans, but im not saying all of them are. Even if say we had a seperate but equally as publicised Group A touring car event with new makes and models involved would be good enough for me.
I have a degree in economic law and i like watching the V8s
The problem with that is that the regulations would be appalling because all the cars would have to be limited (no turbos and the like) to make them fair. You would also have many classes which would detract from the actual race. They would all need to run a very similar engine for it to be at all fair.
you cant beat the NISAN GT-R.....now you know why we got boring supercar crap....bring back the good old days with a tonne of manufacturers and good racing...maybe they should change the name to TXI CHALLENGE 1000 with indian turbin drivers....who knows it might happen lol
Jim Richards won by himself in '91& '92 did he?.... Anyone remember a bloke by the name of Skaife?? One of the most successful drivers in Supercar history. Probably worth a mention I would have thought

WOW larry perkins and the castrol commodores how good were they 3 wins in the decade..
bjacko688 2 years ago

Please bring back euro and jap cars to add some much needed variety. though im sure the bogans would say that's "un-australian" ;)
dan1576 3 years ago
its called Australian Touring Car Racing for a reason. plus 4WD cars are/were nowhere near as exciting to watch as the current RWD Ford vs Holden format.
call me a bogan. but im proud to be a bogan. and yes i would say its unaustralian.

Thought V8sc had FWD?

Ya jokin arent ya?
redSKORPION50 2 years ago
I won't dispute it's showcasing of Competitiveness, it really is only Super-Modded Sedans for 7 Hours.
dontbecutk 2 years ago
and i got more bad news for ya.
toyota said no,but they said they might reconsider
Suzuki said no
Mitsubishi said no
Honda said no due to them only building V8s for Formula 1 ( i dont know if they still are in F1)
and nissan also said no for exactly the same reason.
i dont know about chrysler, but i'd like to see the 300C in the race. it'll be good. but please, i dont want to see jap cars. oh, and they might wanna ask dodge too.
we'll wait and see what unfolds...........
ihatenissanskylines 3 years ago
and maybe more bad news.
i believe that by the time they put a jap car into ATCC, you and i will probably be long gone.
that's what i think.

If you don't like the v8 supercar series don't watch it, there are plenty of other races with different cars in it

Why does it only show one of the drivers names? eg it says Jim Richards won the 1992 bathurst 1000. but no mention of Skaife. I stopped watching this video after 1992...

it only mentiones the names of the winning drivers that finished the race behind the wheel.

I still maintain the Supertourers were the proper winners of 1997/98.
DeanoTheLegend87 3 years ago
The Gibson Motorsport Skylines were so good NISMO in japan looked to how gibson built the cars... and they were built so that they exploited every rule to the limit.. they were the ultimate Group A race cars
fr8boy 3 years ago 2
Would of loved to see the skylines piss all over the Holdens and fords through 90's too bad the 8's couldn't keep up so they kicked them from Bathurst.

hey 19escort if you think thats cool check out larry perkins in the 1993 race and see how side ways he get at 2:38 now if thats not drifting i don't know what is
gullie9 3 years ago
Yeah I have that on dvd. It's awsome. It's actually from the 1994 race. I don't know why it was included in the 1993 shot, but anyway...awsome vid.
19escort73 3 years ago
The footage in the '93 chapter is of the '94 race.

great videos on the winners... the only thing that could be better is if you had put the co-drivers names down as well... but still... great video

skylines now get owned by ford and holden, the F6 is the fastest thing on the streets.
V8SuperRiley 3 years ago 2
notice something with jim richards? 1991, 1992 he wins in a skyline, hmm wonder why, because skylines are twice as fast as fords and holdens?
balkus1 3 years ago 2
yh but they cost like 3 times more then the fords or holdens did to make...
james710nur 3 years ago 2
and they were also given weight handicaps over the other cars in 91 and it still won
dk5293 3 years ago
I can't believe how close The Glen Seton Falcon EF (96 race) get's near the wall. If you look at 4:07 you'll see him behind the Lowndes/Murphy commodore es they exit the cutting and head up towards reid park. He was mm's away from giving it a nasty wack. Just show's how close to the limit he was driving.
19escort73 3 years ago
Wait a second.
Didn't Spuertourer's race in 1997 & 1998.
I specifically remember David & Geoff Brabham winning 1997 in a BMW 320i and Rickard Rydel & Jim Richards winning 1998 with a Volvo S40Supertourer.
DeanoTheLegend87 3 years ago
Both Supertourers and V8's had their own 'Bathurst' in 97/98. Supertourers claimed they were the legitimate Bathurst because they were the original series on the traditional date, V8 claimed they were because they were racing the traditional cars with most of the drivers from the old series. History proved that V8 Supercar won in the end, and Supertouring faded into obscurity.

Just look at those Skyline GTR's go ..... they were awesome, and they would have continued to embarrass all others for alot longer if legal. Its a bit of a shame that it is a two horse race now days but the format does seem to work. V8 supercars just gets bigger and better each year.
wogga8 4 years ago
holdens kicked fords ass in the 80's and 90's w00t GO HOLDEN
speedymatthew 4 years ago
The Larry Perkins footage in the wet was in 1994, not 93. That's because Peter Brock wasn't with HRT in 93. Also, you forgot about the other 2 Bathurst 1000 winners in super touring. The Brabham brothers' BMW and the Jim Richards/Ricard Rydell Volvo.
sk8rgeoff 4 years ago
No it wasnt, it was 93, Dick won in 94 and it didnt rain.
redSKORPION50 4 years ago
I did rain at the start in 1994. 1993 was cloudy at the start but it wasn't wet until the end. That shot of Larry going sideways through the cutting was in 1994 because that HRT commodore behind Perkins was Peter Brock & in 93 Brock drove for his own Mobil Holden team. How do I know this?. Because I have dvd's with Bathurst highlights from every year and that shot is in 1994.
19escort73 4 years ago
the reason for the footage change is because the footage from 1994 was more spectacular than the footage from 1993 and was more enjoyalbe
TAMBSports 4 years ago
redSKORPION50.
Even the guy who made the movie is saying it's from 1994. I can see why you used the 94 footage because it is more exiting then anything from 1993. Do you mind if I ask why you didn't name the co-drivers?.

Typical talk from a dead set knuckle dragging v8 fuckhead, v8 supercars r great, ilove them i never miss a race, but they r destroying motorsport for people like me who struggle to even do a club event, bring back the jap cars i say!

Great Post. Awesome footage of Larry Perkins in the wet there, good to see Dick Johnson pick up a win too.
muddwell 4 years ago
I would commemorate Bowe for that win more then Johnson, not taking away anything from Johnson...But bowe's racing style was the one that beat craig at the finish.
imagunwithagun 4 years ago 2
Johnson still recorded a win though...
muddwell 4 years ago
no one is contesting that, but they only wrote the main man up in this video for the record, Bowe's efforts that year were far more recognizable!

Craig had to conserve fuel and backed off.

I'm a Ford man but Brocky and Perkins were always my favourites to watch during those days. DJ was awesome too.
MrKnoxville351 4 years ago
i 100% agree that v8s wouldnt be as popular with other manufacturers. but, a similar hp gtr would kill a commodore or falcon on any track. just a far better designed car, remember a gtr isnt a family car. its a performance car which rivals porsche and ferrari's off the showroom. far superior chassis and engine development. brilliant cars, i own one and also support holden. thats fair.
trevorwinton 4 years ago
if they never changed it all those years ago to commodores and falcons running only v8s it would not be as popular as it is, myself and my bogan mates love it
bloodworth69 4 years ago
I think the whole resetting of the race format into an effective two horse (almost control) competition is a double edged sword. The original intent of a production car based racing format has been long buried with these wind tunnel formed faceless machines circulating around our tracks now...

i dont know why people are cryin over the nissans being booted, seeing the nissans go was the best thing to happen to australian touring car racing!
bamzonimian 4 years ago
Only 1 issue with it, should have mentioned both drivers names for each car.
For instance, in 98 and 99, Steven Richards became the first driver to win Bathurst in a Ford AND a Holden.

Unfortunately majority rules, and the majority of Australian racing fans are bogans that cant take their almighty V8 being beaten by a car with a smaller engine.
babyduck1 4 years ago
Reality is that they are getting record crowds on the mountain. Touring car racing is more popular than it has ever been in Australia. So maybe we should let you run the sport, put cars in that people dont identify with, halve the crowds, get 40,000 at a Bathurst Weekend instead of over 150,000. You are a Genius!!
palmsophat 4 years ago
But if a greater variety of cars are included shouldn't it appeal to MORE people? Not everyone in this country likes only either Holden or Ford. Even the inclusion of one other make of car would be enough for me to actually bother to watch it, so why wouldn't other non V8's fans like myself take an interest if something new was included?
babyduck1 4 years ago
And a fair point you make! Im sure it would appeal to more! i guess its sort of a case of 'if it aint broke dont fix it'. I guess well have to see what future agendas may bring?. I know that suggestions by people to get rid of Holden and Ford altogether would be corporate suicide! And please dont assume that majority of V8 fans are bogans... some of us may be 'educated' and also drive a non Holden/ford? BTW over 200,000 expected at Bathurst this year.
palmsophat 4 years ago
A lot of the V8 fans I know are bogans, but im not saying all of them are. Even if say we had a seperate but equally as publicised Group A touring car event with new makes and models involved would be good enough for me.
babyduck1 4 years ago
I have a degree in economic law and i like watching the V8s
The problem with that is that the regulations would be appalling because all the cars would have to be limited (no turbos and the like) to make them fair. You would also have many classes which would detract from the actual race. They would all need to run a very similar engine for it to be at all fair.

It was the day Australian racing died. Now its just the same boring races with the same boring cars every year.
