An all time fav of mine.. goes well on a Sunday morning while eating breakfast with your husband/wife..@jazzyman63...this one hit home BIG TIME...((I LOVE N.Y.C.))
Well done Jazzyman for putting this on. Fantastic album, one of my very favourite of all time. The singing is superb and the musicians are the very best. I still have two copies of the vinyl album. Dont ask how I managed to get hold of the second one!
@mujersemilla , No it's Rare Silk. Three females and one male. They are a different group. They were very popular about the sametime. Many jazz fans feel that Rare Silk was better, but let's not debate. Both were excellent regarding talent.
Please don't denigrate this by labelling it merely "Smooth Jazz." Listen to the vocal arrangement here, the brilliant vocals, and, of course, the great Richie Cole.
Will someone PLEASE tell me what became of this group? I remember having this LP in 1983 and wearing the grooves off of it! They should be spoken of in the same breath as the Nylons or even the Transfer. You can hear the influence of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross in their treatments! They still sound lovely. Please update me as their whereabouts!
Back when radio was more adventurous and music a little more mature, I heard this (The Phil Mattson version) on a jazz station when I was in high school....
Thanks so much for adding these songs from Rare Silk - Pleeeeease add more from this LP. I love them and have had a hard time even finding a copy of the CD. Thanks a million!!!!
This is one of my favorite albums. Very rare and hard to find on CD. I still have my vinyl LP in mint condition. Never will I give it up!! Thanks for the video.
Thanks a lot, Jazzyman63! Rare Silk's New Weave is my favorite LP in my collection. There are other great tracks there besides this one and Red Clay which you've also posted. Perhaps you can also post the others in the album. Thanks again! Cheers!
chochief i cream when i here them.the best vocal group of all time.i spend hours trying to get those harmony parts by ear. love it.thanks for posting.
Rare Silk was by far the most technically perfect vocal group of my generation. They never traded their daring and innovative style for commercial success and I respect them somuch for that. YOu should post every thing they have and turn on an entirely new generation to this incredible talent.
A Classic LP but i have it on CD as well...RIP Todd Buffa!

Richie Cole? I thought the guy was Todd Buffa. At least that's what my album said, anyhow.

@ristobenjie I have the Phil Matteson version of this by the original line up by the Phil Matteson singers if you'd like it

@dbookin
What is the Phil Matteson version??
Would love to hear it.
This song was given to Rare Silk by Richie Cole (who wrote it) - with vocalese lyrics by M. Gillaspie of Rare Silk.
Thanks!

@mxvPhoto If you like vocal jazz you must agree that Gene Purling was the best vocal arranger.
Phil Matteson would be after Gene. I'll try to send you a copy of Afternoon
