ok im gona have to say..u really should have taken the x-clamps off because all you did was put some thermal paste where the old stuff was..so this is a temperary fix.. you want to look up a video on taking xclamps off so you can make a much tighter fit between the cpu and gpu boards..the xclamp is the whole reason for red ring so take it off and fix it the right way!!! i also did a fan mod and the penny trick just to ensure it would work lol.. good luck, pm me if you need help, i know ur pain..

For those wondering, it is a t-8 for the smaller black screws on the x-clamps. Any regular phillips head will work on the long screws that hold the inside casing together.

its a actually a reall bad idea to apply the thermal paste by putting on the tissue first then transfering that to that tops of the processors, doing so can leave bits of tissue in the compound. granted they will burn up but once it does there will be a very small air pockets int he compound and that reduces the heat conductivity quite a bit. I recomend applying a pea sized amount to the top of the processor and using a credit card or equivilent and spread it evenly.

ok everyone has the magic red ring fix. this guy puts thermal paste on a napkin taking the chance of getting napkin crap between the chips and the heat sinks. please dont ever put thermal paste on a napkin and put it on anything. put a grain of rice size drop on the dye and simply put your heat sink back on. less is more. the sink will spread the paste perfect. after that you may get another 15 hours or so. oh btw the only thing that will fix rrod perm is a trip to microsoft and a new board.

In this video I re-applied old X-Clamps - however this is old and there's many mistakes to why they shouldn't go back on. I have shot the footage of me re-doing this but with a mod kit. I will edit it and post it eventually of the mod kit. =)

Yea this is 90% of the way I fixed my Xbox, only diffierence is the X-clamps, which if anything, are the source of the RRoD. You need to lose them and pick up machined screws instead with Zinc-plated and Nylon washers. I've fixed 2/2 Xboxs if anyone needs proof or something. But ..yea this is pretty much how you can fix the RRoD. Just remember, no X-clamps.

Or you could use my quick tutorial:

Step 1: Get in car.

Step 2: Drive to store(Preferrably Gamestop).

Step 3: Locate and purchase cooling fan in store.

Step 4: Once fan is purchased, go home and hook it up to your Xbox 360.

Step 5: You're done!

bro...it should help prevent the rrod once u fix it...sorry to not include that....ddnt mean to fuck up ur 360 if it broke it in anyway....lol....u can do the towel trick for a TEMPORARY (I stress temporary) fix...not for a permanant one....the easiest way to fix rrod...SEND IT BACK TO MICROSOFT...they dont bite....lol...its free also...hope this helped

No, broke last year. I decided to wait to get it repaired, got a PS3 & PSP in the mean time.

PSP was a great decision, but I really dislike the PS3.

Don't get me wrong, it has some great games, LBP is epic, R&C is epic, but I don't like MGS4, and the absence of Halo makes me cry.

you need to reflow he solder onto the gpu chip just place the fan on top of the cpu and dont let the gpu cool, let it heat up till you get two flashing lights

unplug your fans, let it overheat until 2 red lights appear, turn it off plug the fans back to the motherboard wait 30 minutes then turn it on and your 3 red lights should be gone

Its really simple to fix the 3 rrod 360's.. You can fix about 95% of the rrod 360's. So many options you can do and to permanently fix it imo, I would get some new (REAL) ramsinks, new Heatsinks and mod an extra internal fan inside of the 360. The ramsinks they use default is like foam tape lol.. Yes you can also get new xclam fix.

Of course, you DON'T have to put back the old x-clamps because they are bended and the amount of thermal compound doesn't fix it you just need to make contact from the chips to the heatsyncs. Watch my video for a permanent repair that will work well

hay i think its the x-clamps, iv researched this quite a bit and plan to make the fix once iv learned as much as I can. As far as I can tell the x-clamps, they flex the mother board and that's what causes the solder around the gpu to crack. Try it again but do not replace the x-clamps, use small screws with RUBBER washers, you'll have to remove the bolts from the heat sinks. let me know how you get on

What "forgottonusername" said is like... sooo true check my video for a explanation WHY it isn't doing anything. YOu have to heat it so it "melts" in it's good form the reason it's running again is probably because the TEMPORARILY release of the pressure.

This isn't doing anything. The problem is a bad solder point between the GPU and motherboard, taking the case apart and moving the X-Clamps alone would probably have had this effect. You need to change the X-Clamp for some screws otherwise your problem is coming back pretty soon.

Yeah you would expect that. It means its over heating. Basically the thermal compound hasn't set between the two components, so if you leave if for a couple hours on 2 red lights. Turn it off for a 30min cooldown, and by then the compound should have stuck both bits together and it should work.

Well I would suggest it because that's the perfect tool for the job specifically created for these situations. Do not use WD40 or any alcoholic based spray or liquid. It will go terribly wrong. Be very careful with the motherboard because you could easily break a trace or snap a pin under a processor. I'm making another video where I take off the X-Clamps completely so stay tuned. :)

They're not just any normal screws, they're (can't spell it sorry) Torque screws so you need to find a precision screwdriver set. Microsoft prefer to make their products a bit special by using special annoying screws. Probably to prevent people like us from getting inside the darn thing :)
