I used to have a setup like that. Took me hours to dismantle, clean, dry and reassemble everything. In retrospect, I probably should have cleaned in sections, with a regular rotation. Ah, memories. :)

people hamsters, like most animals, use there sense of smell to find there way and 'mark' there paths to help. I highly doubt that they would get completely lost, may a bit confused and overwhelmed, but i think they would find they're way back to the food ;) (corect me if i'm wrong)

First time I got a hamster I just went apeshit and bought like a mile of tubes and created a monster of a cage for him that I had proudly on display in the living room. Downside to it was that when my friends came over to see my new pet it took us half an hour of searching just to locate him, and when we did it was hell trying to catch him because he had a dozen escape routes to choose from.

Lesson of the day: less is more.
