Ethical consumerism interview

I bet this guy burned fossil fuels getting to the station to give that interview. But I spose he'd argue that its not about being 100% ethical about everything you buy, just as close as you can get. I'd argue that overpopulation is a much bigger deal than consumerism. I wonder how much "stuff" 1 child consumes in its lifetime. . .

overpopulation isn't necessarilly the problem, it the disproportionate distribution between the wealthy and the poor. 1 'child' in america consumes far more than 1 'child' in africa.

I agree with you entirely; however, as an individual I can't really convince rich people to consume less and give money to the poor (well, I can, but the emphasis is on them, not me), but I can opt to not have children. But if I could fix the wealth distribution problem by myself, I'd much rather do that instead (and I'm trying to) but I don't think my ranting at people is really achieving as much as my choice to not reproduce.

I think your definitely onto something there, although I would argue better that someone like yourself who does obviously care about the state of the world to have a child whom they can raise to be socially aware and consume responsibly thus contributing to a generational shift in thinking providing an example to the children of those who are clueless to their impact on the world....mind you I'm not trying to convince you to go and start popping out kids, lol

In all seriousness i think the guy in this video is right. Our choices in the products we buy shape the world around us.

I think there needs to be more government guidelines/standards. Do we really need bleached toilet paper or sportscars or laundry liquid that makes your clothes glow in ultraviolet light..
