@checkyerself Hey im 18, i want to take karate as my new sport ( previously commited to football). Is there anything i need to know before i start taking classes.
@TheCoffeeNut711 My opinion you should look for a school or teacher who has successful competition experience. somewhere that you like the atmosphere, and the people you train with.
@checkyerself if you live in essex i highly recomend okami martial arts, there is one in newcastle and southend. we learn traditional Goju-ryu and i have been doing it for nearly a year and a half. sensei is supportive and so are the other coches! i won my first competition at a yellow belt!!
@TheCoffeeNut711 i know im not involved with this but trust me dont ! do something else like kick boxing or something because alot of karate traning is just visualising your openent and learning all these combanations agains the air its very boring and i felt like a pleb doing it
. trust me kick boxing is the same just a more moderate version . but this is just my opinion
You do the same in most martial arts, and they're called everything from patterns to poomse to kata. And lots of other terms. The idea is that you train your muscles to remember what to do, then when you're sparring, you're not thinking about what to do after a block, the most natural thing in the world to do will be to do a punch or a kick.
@checkyerself As soon as you see that counter balance arm swing out you know some type of spin attack is coming. He just watched him spin like it was fascinating then took a heel to the face.
@IndrasBlade77 I agree that is a good counter. I would just be aware that when they are spinning the attack might come to the body , so you should enter on an angle to avoid colliding with the Back kick to the body.
@checkyerself if you mean 10000 hours total combat training, i can understand that. it takes patience and discipline to become great at something. I know i could take hits, but i havent trained enough to be as technical as them and id be too cautious to strike at them due to them countering me back faster then i can react. lol
It may just be me, but 10,000 hours? If they have to spend that long on every move to master it, there would be 0 blackbelts. Btw, this is the only high kick I can consistently do with accuracy. I personally know I haven't spent 10,000 hours. Lol
@spartansdieforglory To land these kind of kicks in competition effectively and consistently (ie Raymond daniels, or Denis siver in ufc) you would need to put in 10,000 hours of combat training.
I completely disagree with that. 10,000 hours to land them consistently?
First of all, that's 3 hours a day for 9 years. It doesn't take 9 years to learn to know how to land a spinning hook kick in sparring. I landed a spinning hook kick right to the head in my first competition, which was 8 months after I started training 3 times a week for an hour each day. According to you, at that rate, I wouldn't be able to do that in a lifetime.
@HomesliceDrummer Thats great that you landed the kick in your first competition. You where most likely competing in a begginer devision. What I mean is landing this kick in advanced elite level fights. Like Gokhan Saki in K-1. He lands this kick on advanced pro fighters , consistently and effectively.
@spartansdieforglory You don't need to put in 10000 hours. But, you need to do the move, 10000000000 times. Afterall, no one has yet mastered the basics, there is ALWAYS room for improvement.
@Vrathxx takes a long time to master these kicks (approx 10,000 hours of practice) thats only kicking in the air or at a target, heavybag etc. Now applying the kick in a real situation (fight, competition) against an opponent who hits back.....That takes even more time!!
@checkyerself That was soooo stupid .. People develop at different rates .. Saying approx does not cover up your ignorance at all. 10,000 hours... Pfft!!!!!
@checkyerself I've been training with Lau Gar Ireland for the last 9 years. I won the ''All-Irelands'' in 2006, 2009 and 2010. I'm hoping to enter in the europeans next year and then maybe onto something bigger. Don't try ''teach me''. Oh and if you don't believe me, look it up on Lau Gar Ireland. My name is my channel name!!
@checkyerself so you're saying that it takes "approximately" a total of 2 months of pure training on that one kick... yeah right dip shit. and it takes different people different amounts of time to learn something. anyone who thumbs upped is a retard
@DaSupaFoo 10,000 hours BECAUSE to land these kicks at high level you NEED : basics, footwork, distance, timing, gamesmanship, confidence, experience etc....DO you understand Grasshopper???
@checkyerself To clear things up. You cant land these kicks (in high level competitions) without:: basics, timing, distance, technique, defense, stance, footwork, sparring, gamesmanship, confidence, experience etc.. and of course.. hours of practice on this move. That is why approx 10,000 hours.
ok. as a kickboxer. the guy who got KO'd has a SHIIIITTTT guard. his hands were down by his stomach. and his reactions were fucking poor. that kick isnt all that hard to dodge. thats why noone does it in the UFC. to easy to read, dodge and counter.
I know this man, the one who got knock out. His name is Ramone Hadon. Months before the fight he came home to find a brooding man on top of his wife. His wife, with both pain and pleasure, was shock to see him. Betrayed by the love is life Ramone was in pain from his bleeding heart. He went to AFLAC and took life insurance for the only two things he care about, his two kids. Knowing that his children will be secured, he decided to end his life with one THUNDEROUS feet to the face.
@bandit7498 sorry... hehehe!!! I thought it was reverse turning kick... Reverse Roundhouse I really don't know where I got the term... I am not familiar with the name of the kicks... Sorry... :D
yeah, and just as a point of HOW low-level: notice the ref didn't jump in immediately to make sure the ko'ed guy is ok, and doesn't try to get up too soon, like they do in MMA or kickboxing. why? because that's how rare ko's are, at these low-level point-fighting events... the ref wasn't even ready for a ko as a possible option... when it happened, he probably went - wtf is this then? am i expected to do something now?
yeah, even from the front, when you see your oponents right hand swing back like that you know something big is coming so you gotta get the hell outta the way ;)
alright, i will...i thought 'wow, this guy is fucking retarded.' and no, an ignorant person is one who puts a stupid fucking comment up before thinking about what he or she is typing.
you may think you "redeemed" yourself, but until you actually give us some detail of what you meant, you're gonna look like a stupid bitch.
i'm sure you've heard this already, plenty of times, but you are a fucking dumbass, my friend. in a TRUE fight, it's actually more like the one who is patient and opportunistic, and strikes LAST, who wins the fight. so, really...shut the fuck up.
im sorry i have to laugh great turning hook though a lil slo probly shoulda seen that but then again he did it really close so he coudnt see it untill it was to late
This kick was telegraphed from the begining of the fight. His feet had already moved behind each other, a bad habit used to shorten the maneuver. If his opponent was aware of this he would of been able to read the intent.
I thought that was a slow ass kick, maybe the vid is run at a lower speed? Aside from how slow and obvious it was still beautifully executed, a straight shot to the target, Bam! Great post here.
it's good to learn both types of kicks. shin kick is good for in close, and to the leg. it's good to condition the foot so you can strike with that too. Crocop kicks with the foot more than the shin.
I'm a boxer/BJJ guy, but from what I was taught, the shin is harder than the foot, which also has many smaller bones. It makes sense as it's a stronger kick with less chances to injure yourself.
Wing Chun BJJ Muay Thai Karate etc.. Theirs something too take away from every style. I trained in Wing Chun(a hybrid of it atleast) for about 5 years before I started training in Muay Thai and BJJ..imo, The most IMPORTANT thing no matter what style is unpredictabiity(not telegraphing) and PROPER reaction development. Lots of Wing Chun Defense involves redirection, it leaves more openings in the opponent too counter. Its the one thing I've tooken away from Wing Chun. and Straight punches.
I agree, it's not a good idea to close your mind to any style. After all, its Martial Arts and no matter how much you know theres always something new to learn. Some people treat their style like a religion LOL.... calm down people it's ok!!
you train bjj and muay thai. Thats a good combination. search Selkan Yilmaz, and you can see how tkd mixed with boxing is effective too. Bjj is good for 1 on 1 fighting, but in the street I dont think its very safe to be rolling on the ground. I train bjj 4 days a week, but in the street boxing is better.
Actually its been proven time and time again that Tae Kwon Do is the worst fucking art in the world . Watch the early competetions of the UFC tourneys , none of those guys made it past their first fight . I know plenty of people who tried it in the streets and have gotten knocked the fuck out by decent boxers or even mid level street fighters .. Good luck trying to protecting anything with this bullshit art ..
It can be effective if you combine it with boxing. search for Selkan Yilmaz K-1 fighter. He's a good example of a fighter who mixes his TKD with boxing to make it work against top opponents.
ive done that myself !
