i guess the loseless comprossion technic makes the 24bit samples so small that it averagely fits in just 1 bit ,to save space and to make room for more data.
and it has more layers for extra data.
as cd,s store their samples in uncompressed 16bit.
also, 84dB is a good reference level to set up your system as this is the volume used to master for music and film in post production and audio mastering facilities. this is because this is where the human ear is most balanced in relation to the fletcher/munson curve.
I wish I could say more about DVD Audio, but my experience with it is limited. There are however some very good discs out there I am sure. Tacet, which is a classical label, is know for some outstanding DVD Audio discs.
@mchamp3802 I wish I could comment more on DVD-Audio, but I have had limited exposure to the format. I am sure that it certainly brings a much more enveloping and enjoyable experience than traditional CD.
The file format of standard audio CD is .wav what is the file format of the SA-CD?

@photonictech for an SACD the file format is DSD. consult sacd.net for more info on the format. there is a FAQ there.
