@123mrfroggy123 Incorrect. Your crabitat needs to have water deep enough for your largest crab to completely submerge itself, just make sure he has an easy way to get out.
@alanmckenzie29 This is salt water. The new tank just uses fresh. Salt water was harder to keep clean. I plan on getting back to keeping salt water in the big tank - one of the reasons that I set up a 29 gallon marine tank.
@sailor5687 No problem. In my opinion, if it is just for the light, go with the lowest wattage. If it also to suppliment heat then go with the higher. I don't use any lights rated higher than 26 watts. In the main tank they are only for illumination. In my straw tank they are also used for heat. As it is the straw tank is too hot (heat wave here in central NY) so I will have to keep them off or use a local fan.
@sailor5687 They might like that. Even in my small tank I see the little e in the water dish at the bottom. As long as they can get out. (Makes the water messy but at least they seem to enjoy it)
@sailor5687 In my straw tank I saw my little e in the water dish (completely submerged). This was late and he looked a little suprised when I turned on the light. I do suspect more activity when it is darker. I just added another filter to my night light (notice how dark it is now on my live cam). I made some videos of the last few nights and there seems to be more of them about when it is darker.
If it is a land hermit crab I would not put it in water but rather leave water available for him to go in and out at will. (So depending on what you keep your water in, make sure there is a way to climb out.)
Wow 6 hrs? Are these PP's ? They look like they are. I should give my guys a freshwater pool like this. How do you do it? I mean make the water pools for them. Any help would be great. Thanks!
I was impressed with 6 hours until later I had one in fro late evening to morning...(Candide's video).
As long as they can get in and out on their own. I have a canister filter and air stones in the tank at the time of this video. I made my own tank - the water is filtered out thru the sides. I am building a new one that will be different. As far as retro-fitting a filtered pond in a tank I have an idea...but I need to get it down on paper first!
Ah! I see now. Very great ideas. You have some very happy Hermit Crabs! When I get done witht eh new tank and get them all set up and at home I will make a video and send it to you. Have a great eve! Thanks for your reply. And I can't wait to see the new tank your making. Peace!

@nainaigogo I'm not sure but if it's a land hermit crab, don't put it in water any deeper than 1"

Another note - this is a salt water pool. My new tank will be fresh water - easier to maintain and keep clean.

I was wondering if it was salt or fresh water. Thanks! Can"t wait to see your new tank! Take care.
