  • Great solo, man !

  • finally not a "gutrhie wannabe" ;)

  • Sweet !! :)

  • I LOVE GODIN!!!

  • Jake you are AWESOME!!!!

  • just watched guthries version, i can hear some of your ideas coming from that? either way, amazing playing!

  • simply wonderfull

  • great playing!

  • Hey Jake, what a nice playing! you just rock!

    awesome!

    Claudios

  • very nice brother...

  • very tasty soloing work on these videos! It's good to see someone who can do fusion leads and straight up jazz as well.

  • Fantastic! Four fools didn't like this.

  • Excelente!

    *linda guitarra*

    =)

  • This man's just shreddin it up. Awesome.

  • ive been playing for 35yrs not fusion tho and you are a monster on lead just one pointer do some more bending of notes and sustain once in a while but u are a true pro keep it up

  • That would sound nice over a jazz beat played with a 6-string bass tuned in E-B-G-D-A-E.

  • Your welcome!

  • nice and smooth. I love that sound.

  • sounds VERY interesting!

  • Nothing wrong with occasionally anchoring the picking hand with the little pinkie. It's obviously an adaptation that works for Jake.

What really separates Jake and Guthrie from Larry Carlton though is unfortunately a bit too heavy leaning on metal-ish shredding. What would really be superb would be for them (or someone) to improvise with triads! Forget those scales! They're passe´.

  • hey man you have a really unique style. And, that's a good thing.

This piece is really fun to play over; that's why I did 3 different versions myself.

Anyway, you're a very good musician. Thank you for posting this.

    Peace, Tim

  • Thanks! I have 3 newer videos in this style, much better tone (if not playing...), check 'em out.

  • @jreichbart

thank you, and yeah I like good tone, but what I think is even more important is when a musician plays with "feel." And you've got it there too man!

  • @guitarttimman Fuck off cunt ...he's better than you LMAO!

  • @MrMouthySucksCock

he is not better than tim, but he's good!

  • @MrJumpingJibbers Homo Jibbers.

  • @guitarttimman Homo Halcomb.

  • @guitarttimman I completely agree with you. He has very clear articulation and his bends and slides are accurate. I was looking for Jazz Rock type music for the first time and heard Jake.. Wow, I'm really glad I did now.

  • You got the feeling bro!

  • Very nice playing. The best thing about what your doing is creating something rather than just play guithrie's solo, very nice (Disclamier: not that I have any problems trying to replicate Guthrie's solo, its a beautiful one) You might want to look at your anchoring your pinky onto your guitar, try and play with your hand free from contact with the guitar, except for muting

  • Hey man thats awesome!

Could you please suggest me some Jazz Fusion artists please? I'm already familier with Lary Carlton and Allen. Thanks!

  • Thanks! I like Holdsworth, Metheny, Gambale, Govan and many others...

  • @Ibik eric johnson is pretty awesom

  • i sooo want to learn this kind of jazz.. like a fusion kind of thing! but i don't have time for real lessons! can anyone give med a short intro on what scales he is using? and an easy way to start using those.. maybe some songs that are easy to improvise to? this guy's the shiz :D

  • sweet man

  • Thanks! I have 3 much newer videos in this style, better tone and (hopefully) playing, check 'em out.

  • Excellent playing. For those who like this groove, check out Alex Hutchings.

  • EXELENT! may not be of my entire taste of music, but what you've got there is some awesome guitar technique and feeling for the melody!! liked it

  • having your guitar so high is damn comfortable :P nice playing man

  • Don't be so modest, this is excellent!

  • One of the best guitar solo recordings I have ever heard....including all the greats...

  • Thank you! Do a search on a fellow named Guthrie Govan and another named Danielle Gotardo to really hear the greatest. I will continue to practice though... :-)

  • Hey Jake,

I have a question, is that a Godin guitar, if so what model, and do you like the feel of it?

    Thanks

  • Hi, this is a Godin LGX-SA, love it, nice near flat radius, great for shredding - if I only knew how...

  • Hey jreichbart what do you mean you started practicing again?

As in you don't make a living out of music, and took it up again, or bringing back your chops?

I'm just really curious that's all.

  • Whoops I spoke too soon, I checked out your profile.

Any tips on pursuing music for the serious and dedicated student?

(I want to be a session player when I'm older.)

  • Thanks for the question. I do, in fact, make a living from the guitar (such as it is...) but in a very different style, solo guitar, check out most of my other videos to see what I mean and that requires different chops. I used to think that lead rock guitar was going to be my thing but it turned out differently, so I haven't practiced a scale in many years. Now it's time to get back to some roots...

  • Really awesome man

  • very clean with great timing, im really impressed.

  • Chords will be

    Cm7 Fm7 Cm7 Cm

    Fm7 Fm7/9 Cm7 Cm7/9

    Ab9 G7 sharp 9 Ab9 G7 sharp 9

    Cm7 Fm7 Cm7 Db13 ( ? )

  • Great musician ...no more mystery with the melodic minor scales ...your groove felling jazz is real ! Thanks

  • smokin

  • Thanks!

  • Parts are brilliant and the backing track is being used just as it should be used - to jam over. Well done Jake.

  • waaaooooouuuhhhh

    55555+++++++

  • awesome soloing! some very tasty licks

    5*

  • Sounds great! What's the basis for the lick (over the V) around 0:33? Whole-tone? I love that sound.

  • Thanks! Listening to my own stuff makes me cringe but I'll try anyway...;-) This is in C-, right? That lick is an arpeggio of F-7b5, the notes are F, Ab, B, Eb, which sound like a C#9, which is the tritone substitution of G, the V chord...

  • Awesome! Thanks a lot for the info.

  • nice video, nice song

  • I was really impressed by the video, maybe you could help me out. Iv been bouncing around penatonic for a long time now, and it works great for almost every genre, and every key, but something like actually makes my brain think, rather then wander. Do you think you could walk me through some of the basic theory of what you were doing?

    thx, aaron.

  • Hi Aaron and thanks for the comment! I think the best thing you can do is find a good teacher in your area who can work with you regularly.

  • damn, that was some fantastic playing!

  • Nice !very nice.

    Dan

  • you have great taste my friend...

  • Very nice playing Brother.

    Mike

  • Thanks!

  • Oh my G.. You play sooo well :-) I am stunnered !

    Jarle

  • yyyyeeeaahhhsss!

  • Wow really great playing man! I hear some Larry influence in there. I have to say the tone is a little to 80's metal sounding for the piece.

  • That was awesome!

  • I really liked this... even Guthrie shots death anyone ive seen trying to improvise on this backing track, this is certainly an interesting one, really exploring sounds through all of the frets...

  • CHE BRAVO!

  • great playing, but the tone has a edgy flatulence to it. Was it direct?

  • Thank you and yes, it was recorded direct, a mistake I will not repeat again. I uploaded this video on a whim as I do nearly no such type of playing on my gigs, even though this is the style I grew up with and love. Most of my gigs (and videos, check them out) are with with a clean sounding jazz box, and most of those are just solo gigs. I never thought I'd get this many visits. I have some very nice gear so the next fusion type video I upload, I'll take much more care with tone. Thanks!

  • Thank you! Thanks also for posting your video, sounds great!

  • nice tone.. great playing.. reminded me of guthrie

  • Awesome! Guthrie is one ridiculous guitar player, and you certainly do this track justice!

  • Thanks! Truth be told, he's about 1000 times better than me in the electric lead field. My main style these days is very different - solo jazz fingerstyle guitar, please check out some of my other videos in that style. Thanks again!

  • what guitar is that??

  • Fantastic!!

  • You're good man

  • Great Jake this must have slipped me by awesome!!!

  • Thanks! I just uploaded some more stuff by folks from your end of the pond, some King Crimson and Elton John, take a look I always appreciate the feedback from my first ever subscriber!

  • wow...that was really good....and the tone sounded great too! you got some skills and knowledge!

  • In your info...you said your tone isn't good....? what's that supposed to mean? lol...sounds pretty good to me man.

  • Thanks! The term I used was "not ideal" because I plugged in direct. No matter how good an amp simulator, a speaker and microphone will almost always sound better for this type of tone, to my ears anyway. So while it gets the job done I think next time I do a track like this I'll use a real amp.

  • wonderfull!!!!!

  • hey Jack! hola, is Carlos, excelente perform soloing, love the tone you get from your Godin, great ideas too !! saludos

  • Very nice! You got cool licks there. Keep it going and posted!

  • GRANDE!!!

  • very cool!

  • Thanks Nick. I think this solo is merely OK, I do better with the clean/acoustic stuff (check out my latest trio videos), as there are no opportunities for live fusion and therefore less incentive to practice and work on this style. I will keep trying to improve... Anybody else reading this, check out this great guitarist from the UK.

  • great imagination.

  • Hey man do you listen to Wes Montgomery and those guys, you should make a video of yourself teachin a Wes montgomery song, really nice runs and do you listen to Allan Holdsworth he's right around the Genre your playing at cheers man

  • the video a prefer is this one

with a godin guitar i think

  • wow...

  • Absolutely loved your facial expressiveness in this video! Looked like you were having a lot of fun. :)

    And incredible finger-work as always.

  • Jake is a monster player, seriously. Had the privilege of taking a few lessons from him during my time in AA. Hope you're doing good, Jake!

  • Thats very modest of you Jake re the Guthrie comment. I agree that he is the best at that style but we all have qualities and your solo stuff I think is yours. Ollie Halsall was my favorite guitarist growing up and Ive never heard anyone play like him,and as he would have probably said himself why would you want to.personally I dont like the tone you have there. Guthries sounds richer to me.

  • Well, this is another tune that I am truly blown away by your tremendous playing style and ability.... U my friend are 2 modest. I can guaranteeeee that U put in many hours of dedicated hard work to get to where U are as a great guitarist.. Thank U 4 sharing with us.....U r scary good....inspirational,,,, but, one does wonder if one can achive what U have.....KEEPON STRUMMIN..............Dallas

  • Great player.

  • I just thought to ask you on some tips on picking. Your picking style is really smooth, and I really need some help. If you wouldn't mind, could you give me any pointers?

  • Thanks for asking! I consider my picking to be one of my weaker sides (along with chords, scales, phrasing, time and tone...). I have never practiced picking - I can barely alternate pick and I use some sweep and legato. So, pick one style and go with it all the way, you'll do better than me. One other thing that can really help, go to the music store and buy one each of every kind of pick they have, you might be surprised to find some that work better. I use a large triangle Ultex 0.88.

  • Ok ill try that out. Thanks alot for your time man :D

  • lol, so what are your stronger sides then ? ;) Great playing, thanks alot!

  • You're amazing

  • very good job. you get it see it's not to copy someone exactly but present your own artistic ideas. Keep up the good work!

  • oh my, just another one of those "great unnkowns" who just so happen to get much less acknowledgement than they deserve. i really really dig your playing, it's very smooth, tasteful, elegant, technically able yet not "flashy" in the slightest. not many people will be able to do better on this track. mucho gusto!

  • It's up there with Guthries version.. And that is a big compliment.

  • That is indeed a great compliment although I don't think many people, certainly not me, can touch Guthrie. Thanks!

  • dude, where i can download this amazing track?

    awesome solo!

  • Thank you. Try a search on Fender Aficionado.

  • lol, i cant find it, thank anyway.. i'll check your other videos, really nice job !

  • Yeaaah!! big sound and brilliant phrasing. I found the Godin Lgx-Sa one of the most versatile guitars I ever tried. Keep up the good music!! All the best.

  • hey you kick ass!

    mine for sure!

    beautiful sound too

  • Wow Jake Just amazing, more, more please. Love this style-my favourite!! man you are way up there !!

    Your Friend Paul

  • fluid!!!

  • I sometimes hear people complaining about fusion, considering it like poor, more commercial version of jazz... but to me, to my tastes, some fusion is just smile-giving!

It's just the case of this improvisation of yours, Jake!

    Fantastic.

I can't describe your playing other than this: fantastic.

Fluent technique and brilliant, tasteful, unpredictable playing!

We really couldn't ask for more!

5*... and adding it to my favorites, naturally!

    Thank you for sharing! :-DDD

  • I agree, danbergam. Jake is the real deal.

  • He truly is, MartyPlaysMusic!

  • Awesome
