when it says And there's a toxic cloud hanging over; there's white noise on the screen. And there's a man in a hotel room assaulting a maid who just came to clean up the mess. is that a hint to fear and loathing in las vegas
I decided to search for some more Electric Six videos the other day (I'd previously only heard Danger! High Voltage, Dance Commander, Gay Bar and Dance Commander) and can now say I will be a lifelong fan of this band. They're fucking awesome, and I don't know why I hadn't heard this song before this week. It has restored my faith in music and cured my gout
Since a year and a half I listen to this song at least once, every-fucking-day. When I do so I sing along with the most fervent voice I can bear. Often, a manly tear was shed.
@crounimich It's a reference to a poem by Yeats called "the second coming".
The poem read it thusly: "And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? "
The whole poem is a metaphor for the destruction of world wars, and Electric Six have references to the apocalypse, war and nuclear holocaust all throughout their work, so not surprising they picked the line they did.
Yeah, I know you posted your comment a year ago but late is better than never ;)
@crounimich "There's a lion out in the desert slouching toward Bethlehem to be born." The lion is slouching down ready to pounce on Bethlehem at it's birth (or rebirth as the case may be)
Slouching- a slow, hunched-over, lurching walk, like someone who's had too many drinks trying to stumble home, or a soldier in enemy territory with a wounded leg, dragging the leg behind him on his way back to friendly lines.
@crounimich these are the lines (last line) from WB Yeat's poem - second coming. There...it means that a change (in form of sphinx) is ready to arrive..
It's from a pome by William Butler Yeats titled "The Second Comin" which ends with the line "What rough beast slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?" Look it up and read it, it's da shizzle.
lives "near" where 'Tori Amos' was born, and she has a degree in music, and plays the piano, She is a professional, through teaching, and natural talent. I think her music has allot of heart, and feeling in it! She just put a new one up, she is amazing! Keep it up Diana!
Those were pretty good songs though....McDonadlzzz? Mr Woman....Dange! High Voltage is just REALLY catchy though; I have yet to hear smomething I don't like by these fellows
Very moving, and deep in meaning. I love his voice! :) Thanks for posting this, turned me on to something I havent heard before! :) I really like the sound. -peace
"Slouching," here, means slinking, creeping, or sneaking. GREAT song. Dick Valentine is a genius.

I saw them live and Dick Valentine came out alone on stage to play this as the encore.
And a bunch of drunk fat people kept interrupting him to shout "PLAY DANCE EPIDEMIC". Fuck those guys.

...The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

What lyrics? That's from the poem where this song takes the "slouching towards Bethlehem" metaphor from.

Now who else besides E6 would quote the Backstreet Boys in a song? The answer is: nobody.
This band is good beyond words.
