Thank you for your quick response and for sharing the recipe. It is the same one I use only I cut the recipe in half. I am going to try the recipe using the flavored coffee creamers and will let you know how it turns out.
THANKS for sharing. Very pretty and well done. Is the icing made with butter or veg. shortening. I know Wilton calls their icing buttercream but can be make with 100% veg. shortening or 1/2 shortening & 1/2 butter. What state do you live in ? In Calif they took out the transfat from the veg. shortening in the whole state so the icing no longer has that elastic quality like it use to. When piping shells, etc. it just breaks at the end, does not form into a nice smooth finish. Any suggestions ?
@maggie90703 I have the same problem too Trans Fat, and I don't have the solution
Here's my recipe:
Buttercream recipe
2 cups shortening
2 pounds powdered sugar, sifted
2 Tbsp meringue powder
2 tsp flavoring
7 Tbsp water
Mix shortening, water and flavoring. Slowly add 1/2 the powdered sugar and mix for 2 minutes. Add meringue then the rest of the sugar. Mix for another 2 minutes until creamy. Do not whip if you planning on spreading the frosting because it will leave bubbles in the frosting.
wow its a perfet video ...i have been looking for stencils like yours.do you can tell me where i could find it...and how much money i need to buy it please please!!! thanxss
I really love this technique that you've shown to us all. Thank you so much. Now I can have my friends thinking or believing I did this all by hand. :) Wonderful idea. I don't like fondant so this just made my life easier with baking and decorating.
@sundry95 You will need to pin the stencil to fondant, but because crusted buttercream isn't matt finish like fondant I don't need to do anything to make it stick. I think it's the oils that give it just enough moisture to hold onto the stencil. Occasionally I'll hold a "free floating" stencil with one hand and ice with the other.
@sherimarie1 I use a crusting buttercream (Wilton recipe) and as long as it is crusted the stencil won't stick. I like to stick the cake in the fridge for awhile too just to make it extra firm.
I have used black for the damask and it's the exact same concept. Just be extra careful with the black because there isn't much room for mess ups ;)
@TheLSaldana Your right it will harden and is perfect for fondant and much easier, however the fat in the buttercream will make the Royal icing dissolve/melt. This is why I recommend using buttercream for this stencil.
That cake is GORGEOUS!!! Thanks for sharing :)

How do you get the stencil to stick to the cake? I used fondant and the stencil didn't stick so I had to pin it.

if you use royal icing, i will dry harder and then it won't mess up if you bump it.
and it still spreads nice and easy.
