While definitely a sad story, I would like to actually hear about how it was Chernobyl that caused her brain tumor. I seriously doubt there is any scientific connection between the two, and that's why greenpeace continues to use sob stories rather than actual science. They don't even mention a connection between annya's brain tumor and radiation in the video.
As an EE engineer who has a father, a friend's father, and uncles who work as nuclear control operators, I would like to think I know what I'm talking about in the realm of nuclear power. I completely understand the possibility of danger, but lets all get a few things straight.
1. Nuclear power plants do not "explode"
2. Chernobyl acted without a containment structure, or safeguards
3. Fukushima was outdated by us standards.
4. Nuclear power gets a lot of fuel by nuclear disarmament
all this and countless thousands more lives destroyed in the name of SOMEONE MAKING MONEY using an unsafe method bringing us electricity!
its sickening.
What's worse it's only only 1 part, we have gasoline effects, poisons in our water, pesticides in our food, cell phone towers, radio, satellite radiation making more energy that rips through our body 24 hours a day.
Just because My opinion is different from yours it makes me retarded. NO. it makes you closed minded. People aren't always gonna beleive in what you beleive in Asshole
@spe315effect Because get your facts straight, Chernobyl was an RMBK-1000 prototype reactor, run by a skeleton crew of coal miners, at about 1:00 am a coal miner decided an unplanned experiment to save energy by shutting down the cooling system and letting the generators restart help, but that didnt happen so the reactor super heated. Now, we dont have prototype reactors run by coal miners in our reactors nowadays. Get of the bandwaggon
@spe315effect Same way I am pro-cars after seeing a vehicle accident. Because a few idiots can't drive, doesn't mean we should ban cars. Nuclear is very safe if handled properly
WE NEED THINGS TO CHANGE! REAL PEOPLE MUST BE LISTENED ALL AROUND THE WORLD! join the street revolution!! people who said ENOUGH are on the streets right now all over europe and this is quickly extending to the word! THE CHANGE HAS STARTED tell everyone who doesn't have access to the internet! we are all together in this. #worldrevolution
@Misslolzies so, one RMBK-1000 prototype run by miners which decided it would be good to turn off the cooling system means all nuclear is stupid? wow, just like all you uninformed people generalizing everything...
tears came out of my eyesseeing the girl's valour against the deadly disease.........i wish that god bless this girl and all survivors as well as the soul's of the people who cant survive
I am blessed to see this video. I hope that God Blesses their family and I wish that people would see this and try to help save our planet, we have only one home, and we must maintain it.
This is what the so called "peaceful atom" does with our children. All atomic power plants are permanent accidents even during normal mode. The chain reaction in the reactor creates toxic waste, which is unstoreable, unsafe, and which is protected by an unethic science, since the beginning of the atomic age. Atomic reactors were originally build for Plutonium production nothing else. And that's still what they do today.
I'm confused, did she personally ever live close to Chernobyl? And what does arthritis have to do with radiation? Sure it's a sad story, but I just can't see how this video provides any good arguments against nuclear power. Seems like a good ol' scare tactic to be honest.
@knasklasen You're not a doctor I assume. The World Healh Organisation is gagged by the contract WHA 12-40 from 1959, made with the IAEA. Since then they deny all illness, sickness, genetic effects, cancer, deaths and mutations, when it comes to radiation. Cancer patients who survive the first 5 years are marked as "cured" and no longer appear in the statistics. Low radiation effects are ignored. Tritium - emitted by NPP during normal mode damages the embryo, and causes leukemia after birth.
@Tekknorg You are correct, I'm not a doctor. I was under the impression that it was proven that future generations weren't affected, at least not as much as they first thought. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
whilst most people here won't be pro nuclear power, I can't see a current viable alternative. Renewable energy is what we should ultimately be aiming for, but the current coal and gas powerstations have worse impacts on our environment even than the recent japanese disaster.
whilst ultimately the answer to the energy problem will need to involve cutting down dramatically on consumption, and a switch to renewable sources, the short term plan should involve nuclear to avoid fossil fuels.
The Japanese reactors at fukushima were commissioned in 1971, hardly cutting edge technology today. We need to replace the aging reactor designs out there with new, better designs. A hydro dam collapse during the quake killed 4 people in Japan, the radiation hasn't killed anyone. Yet you don't hear people calling for the removal of all dams. Coal/gas/oil plants kill hundreds of thousands a year in cancer and destroy the earth. There's no clean energy source, it's either bad for earth or us.
How someone makes the link between current nuclear reactor design safety and the terrible disaster or the Chernobyl disaster is beyond me. It's a shame so many environmentally minded people base their opinions on a kneejerk reaction to Chernobyl rather than put some effort into learning about the massive advances we've made in reactor technology since the 60's. It would be the same as comdemning the computers as useless because you were stuck on a vacuum tube computer from that same era.
@rugggedman The blatant facts are however, that this "extraordinary" and "spectacular" nuclear safety has once again been proven wrong - this time wreaking havoc in Japan. Why should we produce electricity in such a dangerous and harmful way, with all the radioactive waste being produced, when we have vast amounts of renewable, clean and safe energy to utilise. I simply don't understand this, why so many people say "oh, it's not that bad," when it is. Renewable energy is the energy of the future
Ah the government !!!! Chernobyl's disaster is a fault of Russian government!!!! They thought only and always to be a powerful nation and instead they haven't money for servicing expenses !!!!Shame. The same thing was happened with the submarine Kursk, they don't accept help by Americans!!! So all young boys are dead in the sea, terrific death. Perla.
I disliked it, and I can't understand how anyone can LIKE this. This is tragic, this is so sad that it nearly makes me cry. I don't know anybody with such a living will like this girl has and it's sad to see the world crying over japan knowing that chernobyl wasn't a lesson..
@AriannaD94 I think you misunderstood the "like/dislike" system. In this case, if you like the video, it means that you like that the video has been posted here on youtube, so its tragic message can be spread not the content itself.
@EmmaJulieAislinn I'm sure I didn't :) But I felt like I have to dislike it because of what I told and for the reason of this content full of sadness. Normally I use it different.
Amazing Family.... So sad, to know, that like them, there are so many people suffering the same agony.... Who's to blame??? I think every body knows...
Nuclear Power is NOT the solution to anything!!! All the Governments should to see by now the destruction that can cause... NOT TO NUCLEAR POWER...
Annya, you are so brave and a beautiful soul...
After 25 years of the disaster, so many are still victims of greedy governments!!!

No - it's a lie that we need the nuclear power in the future.
The lobbyists are trying to play down the obvious facts: MILLIONS DIED and WILL DIE.

thousands of people as well as animals have been effected by nuclear meltdown. I mean look at Japan now.
but still for some places Nuclear enegry is the only option (like japan due to dense population)
