To which album this is on: Split Enz released "Mental Notes" in NZ/Aus, but then their second album was released as "Mental Notes" in the UK, and "Second Thoughts" in NZ/Aus. So, you're both right! See the Wikipedia page for Second Thoughts for more information.
Lovely. I'd like to say this was my favourite Enz song ever, but that would mean eliminating Betty, Marooned, Under the Wheel, Stuff and Nonsense, Nobody Take Me Seriuously, Message to My Girl, I Walk Away and One Mouth Is Fed.
(sorry - continued!) the Mental Notes album. I know because it took me weeks to order it from the (then) Virgin Records in Nott'm. Tim Finn was spellbinding as the front man. The whole act was quite avant garde and theatrical with the highlight being "Time for a Change". The album can be obtained from Amazon and is well recommended as *****. They lightened up a bit after this and became more mainstream and obviously more popular as they morphed into Crowded House.
Excellent video. Saw them in Nottingham in the mid-70s as support to a band called Jack the Lad. Their set was so stunning that the main act paled into insignificance. Quite gob-smacking and very theatrical. This is from
i remember as a kid being blown away when these guys came on the scene in n.z...i can recall the times well...dad:what ya listining to there....me:the split enz...dad:are they wearing make up...me:yeah wicked in it...dad:bloody must be gay....lol
F*ck I love this song! Although it's a bit before my time I "discovered" a few years ago off usenet and just fell in love with its anthemic quality. I agree with the guy below - this song deserves the same reverence as any classic rock and roll classic.
I literrally grew up with these guys. "Mental Notes", "Dizrythmia", and "Frenzy" are essential and, 90 years later, approaching timeless. The Finns still create wonderful music, but noyhing will match this stuff.
really don't know. i never found anthing about 'the woman who luvs you'except lyrics...well but maybe one day one of these crazy blessed punks here in you tube post some bootleg stuff. by the way, which state are you from? do you like Bowie also?
hello there , thanks for the infos and lets cross the fingers for it, so i am from Sao Paulo and of course i lobe Bowie too and all the good musics from 50 todays too, except crap music lol hugs and where are you in Australia?
"You've got it all figured out. 10 to 1, I lose. Drop your lovers noose, and swing me." Best lyrics ever! And my god Phil Judd is sexy. Creepy, but sexy.
I agree, braile7- with makeup or without, Phil was one sexy guy! There are some early shots of him sans heavy makeup that are really remarkable- androgenous, charismatic, and gorgeous!
OMG! i've been waiting for long 30 long years to see that video I love that album "Mental notes" thanks for posting i think i am the only Brailian fan of that band and i had for 3 times the vynil version !!! i have no more words to say !!!
According to Mike Chunn (the original bass player in Split Enz) they couldn't get this clip played in England because it was unsuitable for teenagers. It had the line "only got as far as the backseat of my car..." which was deemed immoral.
cool, would love to see the vids which aren't on the dvd, I think Next Exit, Never ceases to amaze me and I don't wanna dance...are these on your tape?
Yes, all 3 of those that you mentioned are on my tape. I'm going to go in order! I think only two videos that are on this tape are currently on YouTube and that's Message to my girl and I got you. I have the rest. My goal is at least one a day.
Damn, I need to get one of those bad-ass suits.
Phil and Tim, I love you oh so much. ^-^

Hard to pick a favourite Enz song, but it's between this (Phil), Betty (Tim) and I Walk Away (Neil).

Absolutely brilliant.
My teacher was on stage with Split enz and he also went to school with Tim and Niel Finn.

Phil Judd losing his "hair" is quite possibly the greatest moment in the history of music videos.
