  • More drums!

  • in 1982 at Club Montreal a small venue with some 800 fans.He had people dancing on tables.

    .

  • Great!

  • I love it when this tune is played uptempo - makes me wanna be James Dean.

  • First time I heard this,I thought it was Dave Edmunds who was singing. I love this !!!!

  • Girl i love,stole her from a friend

she got stoned he stole her back again

cuz she knows he had a bag o weed

  • Great song!

  • I own a 08 Grand Marquis. I had only ever heard Allan Jackson's version of this song before, but when I was cruising around other night and this came on, I fell in love!!! Excellent tune!!!

  • Badass!

  • the late, great Ian Wallace on drums! Nice!

  • Ohhh that slide!

  • El Rayo Ex is a great album! more please

  • Smokin' drummer!

  • @CrudeDude there is a drummer plus a percussionist !

  • I love this!!!!

  • Lindley is the only version i will play or care for.

  • Do you have to say more: David Lindley and Ry Cooder ?!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • country version is better

  • i gotta learn to play slide

  • well if i had money, id tell you what i'd do...

  • David Lindley........awesome...... :)

  • thanks to my brother who introduce me to david lindley. by far the best among blues and rock and roll.

  • I have heard many versions of this classic song but David Lindley version is by far the best version yet. This is a fantastic upload and my thanks to amenhop for uploading this. This uploader sure knows his music. 5 *****++++!!

  • Wonderful version of "Mercury Blues"! I enjoyed images of old cars also :-)... Many thanks donkey 3214 for sharing and amenhop for posting! ♫♫♫♫♫

  • @AnaJil ~ ~ ~ tnx - not much today compares with the lines or just sheer 'attitude' of that classic chassis.

  • @amenhop 50 Chevy? Any old "Lead Sled:" with good lines and a big motor is fun. Sadly they get more and more expensive to fuel. So are women, bu at least when you trade in a car it does not cost you everything you own!

  • Great car, what a shame about Ford killing off Mercury, I've always been a big fan of the old Mercury's, my dream car is a 1969-70 Mercury Marquis Brougham 4 door hardtop

  • definitely like steve millers version better. Maybe a sign of my age, dunno

  • David Lindley is the best slider on the planet period

  • Wow...The percussions on this track are awesome

  • definitely the best version of the song. i grew up with it in the '80s, when in was sort of a phantom tune: i only found out who played it some 5 years ago ;)

  • Got to see this guy for the first time in 1999 at an outdoor show with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Wally Ingram and Bruce Hornsby. Talk about a face melting encore! This song (and oh SO many others) blew my mind!

  • If you can sit still listening to this, check your pulse.

  • I always wondered how Alan Jackson went from Steve Miller's version to his, but now I realize that he must have heard (and borrowed from) this version before he recorded his own. The chord progression sounds almost identical!

  • @wbchaney Same chord progression? Would that be cause it's the same song?

  • @Sointula2 DOH!

  • @Sointula2

No, just the same lyrics. Jackson 'borrows' Lindley's arrangement where (e.g. in A) unlike Miller etc. the E which would be the 5 chord in bar 9 is swapped for an F#m and the D in bar 10 is swapped for an E. It's not radical but it's not usual and it's how Lindley didi it... 12 years before Jackson.

Fantastic track, best version of this tune by many miles - including Miller.

  • @Sointula2

No, just the same lyrics. Jackson 'borrows' Lindley's arrangement where (e.g. in A) unlike Miller etc. the E which would be the 5 chord in bar 9 is swapped for an F sharp minor and the D in bar 10 is swapped for an E. It's not radical but it's not usual and it's how Lindley didi it... 12 years before Jackson.

Fantastic track, best version of this tune by many miles - including Miller.

  • thanks for the posting..... yeee haw..

  • This cat can play a slide aint no doubt about it.....best version in my humble opinion. If you like another version, Ok, but this is the DEFINITIVE VERSION for me.....dude can play a slide guitar, and those are a bitch to master, I KNOW......rock on

  • @futuredriverforETS hell no.he got the worst.this guy even got the song playing in miami vice.that just goes to show how cool he is

  • @futuredriverforETS if u like country

  • @futuredriverforETS Hillbillies should never play blues.

  • @futuredriverforETS No,Jackson's version is the worst. It's like Pat Boone's version of Tutti Frutti. It completely misses the point.

  • @oleole52

Probably because he sucks. Take any old fart and ask him to redo a song and he ends up fartknocking the shit out of it. Like Jackson did. Fuck him. This is not a song that should be covered IMO. Perfect as it is.

  • Lead sled!!

  • I heard a little Petty from Running Down A Dream in the intro.

  • ride sally ride

  • David Lindley is "da bom" ;-) Grew up with him (have very cool uncles who appreciated David Lindley and Warren Zevon... I STILL miss Warren)

  • Simply bad ass! and rude rude rude. Res ipsa loquitur.

  • Wow, brings back memories!

  • Hands down the best cover of this song.

Sad to hear Ford is killing of my favorite brand of car. I own two Mercruys: a '78 Colony Park and a '05 Grand Marquis.

  • Yes! The original Dave! The best version!

  • Loved this one in Miami Vice! Pure brilliancy.

  • Must say - the best version I have ever heard for cruiz'n.

  • I just heard FORD is discontinuing the Merc!

So I raced on over here to reminisce.

    Used to have a '72 XR7 Ragtop,had the sequential rear turn lights....sigh

  • Someone said this is the original version. That's not accurate. This song dates back to the late '40s or early '50s -- the original was titled Mercury Boogie, and it evolved over the years

I think Lindley's version is way superior to Alan Jackson's though. Jackson isn't very creative. Check out Lindley's live version at the Roxy in 1988

  • @MusicWriter1965 Hey thanks for the info on the song I knew that Lindley did not write the song and I agree that his version is way better then Jackson's cover. But do you know who wrote the song? just wondering

  • @bigguy4570 I cant remember who wrote it, but if you did a search on allmusic.com, you could probably find out. Or, Wikipedia, but they're not always reliable

  • @MusicWriter1965 Just found out who wrote Mercury Blues it was K.C. Douglas in 1949 thought you would like to know.

  • not 2 offend anybody but i like alan jackson's cover but I Like This Version 2 & is this The Original

  • @armymen12002003

fantastic version of mercury blues. David Lindly ? he got what it takes.

  • you cant find a better slide ,he is the god

  • The first time I heard this song was in a Miami Vice episode.

    Thanks for the video "amenhop"

  • This is GREAT song. Love those Mercs. Had a few and they were all great.

  • Like those cool car shots. Esp. the fade round about 1:43

  • Thanks DAVE!!!

  • superb - check out the hamsters version as well

  • a national treasure

  • great rock song!

  • The best version of Mercury Blues!

  • Amen!

  • @knegon soooo true!

  • @knegon

    I agree my friend!

This is the best version of this song!
