  • so does this utilize cell life?

  • I want one badly sooooo badly

  • The last tune's pretty sweet!

  • That thing is SICK!!!

  • more of a plaything than a serious djing tool =/ good thing i got novation and korg stuff

  • @elixer6x6x6 No way man, this is like Dj Hero on playstation.lulz.

I agree with you though definately more of a toy.

  • Aye come on mate!!??? get a grip, far too many views lol

  • This is terrible.

  • wtf, is he a professional or does he play as an amateur? cause when i see that i just feel like shit.

  • Yeah; last song at about 3:57 was my favorite by far.

    Nicely done!

  • @KutWrite at that part it reminds me of Kanade's Theme (OST from Angel Beats!) But with a twist. . . . I agree that is was very nicely done

  • More music making devices for those who can't play real instruments! :D The decay of music worsens...

  • @furiousflop hey,i can play guitar,and bass,and i own this machine. . .

  • they should ban these.

  • CHANGE THE TITTLE TO DEMO NOT REVIEW

  • all this "review" has done, is make me say "WTF IS THAT THING. im buying a monome..." i hope you dont work for yamaha.

  • y better buy a kaoss pad3:D

  • nortec collective!!

  • that thing is cool but can't i just do the same stuff with any 16-step sequencer on a touchscreen :)

  • nice demonstration

  • very pretty, but shood not be the man controlling the instrument and not the instrument controlling man?

  • eureka! where can i buy this from slovenia!?!?!?tnx

  • This guy needs to learn what a tune is

  • This isn't a review it's a demo

  • ke kreativo 8-)

  • Can you let's say link it to a computer with Ableton Live and use it as a midi controller but still use its own abilities ( like "bounce" etc ) ? I suspect that it's what you're actually doing right now in this video, but I want to be sure...

  • The buttons aren't velocity sensitive, are they?

  • Que isso?

  • I want one of these:) how much and where can I get one?:D

  • 1:55

    holy @#$%@#$%@#$%@#$%@!

    thats awsome

  • Certainly isn't an Eigenharp.

  • NOT A REVIEW. LAME

  • HARDCORE FOR LIFE!!!!!!

  • I must say, i do want one. Although I'd only get one as an extravogancy for my set. I can do all that on Logic and Ableton, but I'm sure it'd be fun to play around with :)

I'm thinking you could also have a little breakdown during a set and have some harsh improv on the go.

  • holy shit it looks like a god damn light bright on crack!!

  • Thiz iz one ov tha greatezt Devicez ever, Go Tenori-on USA !

  • It takes a real creative artist like Little Boots to make this device sound good and funky.

  • What a mess. Just random crap it seems.

  • I love this machine... I want this machine... I can afford this machine... this is amazing

  • You can do MUCH better. Check out Sound Tracker and the other similar Trackers. Been around for eos. Most people not aware of it.

There are better ways to create music than the boring midi sequencers out there.

  • where can i get this at?

  • what the hell???? how do yopu know how to use that freaking machine...

  • Only problem with this, is I'd love to be able to play it, but even if I bought one I'd really have no idea what to do with it. You really have to be gifted to be good with a totally creative-based "instrument" like this.

  • not impressed. i will just stick to my kp3.

  • Kaoss Pad 3 & Mini is way better tha this shit

  • This video was stolen from voyspace

  • o.o oh gosh

  • Are you kidding. Massive difference, these things work differently. You can play tetris on this and still make a song outa it, or ping pong or w.e .

  • whats the difference between this n a kaoss pad?

  • money

  • this can be used as a visual sequencer... and has midi channels... layers.. etc... kaoss pad it´s limited ..really.. I have both of them...

  • a kaoss pad is an effect controller this is a synthesizer!

  • Way over priced...$1000 (at least for me)

  • Cool speedcore beat starting at 0:27.

  • cool speedcore is an oxymoron

  • Se volete fare musica imparate a suonare il piano o la chitarra.....

  • This is not a review. This is someone fooling around with the device. Not very helpful or informative at all.

  • has it speakers or comes the sound from pc?

  • It has its own (small) speakers, but also an analogue audio output, so can be connected to any amplifier or computer soundcard etc..

  • does anyone know where i might buy one of these or order online?

i see it costs a lot...

well, i do have my sweet 16 coming up... >:)

*i hope it comes with instructions* O.o

  • technology ....

  • it looks nice and i'm sure it's very interesting making music with. but look at the price. yo can buy an akai MPC with!

  • I can't believe this is over $1000.

  • Actually under $1000. As low as $849, and I've seen them on the used market for a bit less.

And as far as a MacBook and sofware goes, you couldn't play one live the way you can with this device. It's not meant for you to dick with your music, adjusting it pixel by pixel for hours and then just playing it back. This is a live performance device, like any other traditional instrument.

  • Its still really expensive for what it is ( a glorified midi controller / light show). If it was me I would rather spend the money towards a mac book, logic & maxmsp5, you can pick up a MPD24 for next to nothing these days.

  • Sure, I'd rather have a new computer and a bunch of dongles too, but I'm not a performer.

I don't know how much of an impact Tenori-on or similar devices will have on music, but anything that helps broaden music is fine in my book. Let people who want to buy one buy one and the rest of us can just enjoy what they do.

  • well, you're kinda wrong considering this is also a midi controller.

  • The jams that take place late in the video are very appealing

  • Sorry this isn't a review. It's just someone playing around with the product... not verbally elaborating on it's pros and cons, or adding any commentary at all.

  • agreed, misleading title.

  • You could get a macbook wit hella programs for the price of this wack toy! Boooooooooo

  • are you kidding? this piece of hardware is absolutely amazing, despite the fact that this particular vid kinda sux.

  • this is more.

  • i like the use of drum machine. it would be great for drill-drum type music

  • very interesting ! i saw Atticus Ross when he was producing Korn using one of this in the son: "Love and Luxury"

  • so this is like a really expensive and incredibly limited fruity loops in your hands?

  • lol, what does that even mean?

  • Boring....

  • no way!!!!

    this is badass machine!

  • how much is this??

  • 1200 dollars

  • I like the idea but all the demos I see and hear are quite Industrial.....and fake.

Is there any demo that has some organic, Rhythm to it.

  • WOW

  • I want one

  • good review, are the sounds samples or presets.

i want to use the tenori as a midi controller to trigger my synth, can this be done ?

  • I think you can, I read about some people using it for their synths to have more control but the tenori-on brainstorming interface. I'm also quite sure that it can only send midi and not effectively recieve it.

  • Can you save the things you made? =)

  • Some people will "get" the Tenori-On, some will not. Check out the Tenori-On videos of "gattobus" or "littlebootsvideos".

  • Ack! I don't like the first sonic barrage; it sounds like the government-subsidized musical score for a particularly nasty Canadian National Film Board cartoon. Nor is it very fruitful to draw shapes on the Tenori-On and see if it will translate to a great musical sequence. Abort! Abort! But I have a soft spot for calliope sounds; makes me want to eat lots of cotton-candy as long as no Psycho Clowns will attack me! "Why so serious?" The last piece, I have no opinion on.

  • mus9c suks

  • You, sir, fail at life.

  • its just a toy...no logical use can be seen for music production or so..

  • you never know, ive been at a show where one of the DJs used a nintendo DS to sample sounds on the spot, then incorporate them into his mix

    he was really good.

  • i liikee

  • If you have an iPhone, you can download TonePad, which is a very mini version of the Tenori-On. It's a lot of fun, and it's free. The price of this thing is ridiculous considering what it is. Should be a simple piece of software or hardware that connects to a sequence we all already have.

  • what is this shit ?

  • So..... it's a cheaper monome?

  • well, Tenori-On started development in late 2002; Monome was started in 2005.

When you buy a monome, you must program it, but Tenori-On already functions as a sequencer, with the basic stepsequencer & other modes(bounce, random, solo).

Tenori-On also has built in sounds & speakers, meaning you can also use batteries & take it anywhere.

it took 6years because Yamaha only allowed 2people to develop it & needed strong persuation to actually produce/sell Tenori-On

  • Aye, I was very ignorant when I posted that comment. I'm now the proud owner of a Tenori-on and it's just a fantastic piece of gear.

  • holy shit thats one of the coolest things ive seen but its so expensive

  • at first this seemed to be DJs and electronic music, but the last song I heard was very good, sounded like a drum with a computer effects, but when I saw that, I loved it, but I have a question ¿do you know which notes you play?

  • Nope, didn't know what notes I was playing. I myself am not a huge fan of electronic music, so I tried my best to make songs that I actually enjoyed. Worked great!

  • Hows that not electronic? :P

  • Great stuff, ¡ Did you load your samples into the SD cards? or do you have it connected to the computer? this don't sound like the tenorions´ original samples.

I'd loved if you could give detail on how`s the set up.

    thanx

  • Two songs were done with the on board samples, and the other two were played using Logic (through midi). Thanks for watching!

  • yea:)

  • THANK YOU for making the first video that actually _sells_ the tenori-on! I'm ordering one right now.

  • I'm in the process of selling stuff to get one, as well.

  • I hope you both are happy tenori-on owners right now.

  • @moonscore me too.....

  • @oscar2099 Hope you enjoy it. I've had mine for a year, and I still love it! The new update that allows custom scales is boss.
