  • Oh... She did not belt it as she usually does...

  • trolololo LEA SALLONGAA!!!! LUV HER!! SHES AWESOME!! HER VOICE IS AWESOME!! ND tbh im only 12turning 13 in like a day so yeah... LUVEDD MISS SAIGON/LES MIZ/ALADIN/THE KING AND I/ MULAN 1 & 2!!!! TROLO BEST PRESON IN THE WORLD!!! hehehe heard her fans r called salongites<3

  • this is not flower drum song, this is i think "i enjoy being a girl" XD

  • @iamSmexx - you're right.... but it's from the musical called "The Flower Drum Song". FYI

  • This is video is definitely sung by Leah Salonga. Im not sure what song she did in flower drum song.

  • I LOVED Flower Drum song, Les Mis, Mulan, and Aladdin before I knew she was in those. When I found out Lea was in all of those, you have NO idea how excited I was.

  • This song is challenging to sing. Broadway stars make it seem so easy...

  • I saw Lea perform in Flower Drum Song in New York. Her character did not sing this song. This recording is from that production, so this song was NOT sung by Lea.

    .

  • In the 2002 production of Flower Drum Song in NY, Lea played the character Mei Li. "I Enjoy Being a Girl" is sung by the character Linda Low, which was played by Sandra Allen in the 2002 production. Therefore, this song was NOT sung by Lea.

  • @cilledaxny ... definitely Lea Salonga's voice on this recording. In Manila production, Lea did. You can also check on youtube "The 56th Annual Tony Awards : Opening", Lea sang this song live with other broadway artists.

  • @cilledaxny you deaf? or never heard lea sing....

  • @cilledaxny this song is DEFINITELY sung by Lea! You can tell.

  • Ugh im so pissed I have to sing this song but i have to sing it higher then lea or anyone else on youtube, I have to kind of belt it aswel, its so hard

  • what an interesting, bitter dispute about who sang the song better, Lea Salonga, who is singing it presently, or Nancy Kwan. The question is not s deep one as Nancy Kwan, as sweet and cute as she was in the film, NEVER sang the song. She lip synced it while dancing around her budoir! So, in real time, there is no dispute to be had, because the only one here, mentioned who sang the song are Lea, Baker (for Kwan) and Pat Suzuki, who did it on stage, originally. Let there be calm!

  • Lea's version is AMAZING. p.s. BJ Baker was the singing voice in the movie, NOT Nancy Kwan. Nancy Kwan is still fabulous though. :)

  • Julie Andrews, Lea Salonga, few singers sing as they do, gifted with clarity and range, good enunciation. We are lucky to have their recordings. I personally think Andrews' Christmas recordings are her greatest singing, and I wish Lea had a Christmas album.

  • To everyone who says that Nancy Kwan's version was better, NEWSFLASH: Nancy Kwan did NOT sing this song in the Flower Drum Song movie. She was lip-syncing to someone else's voice.

  • this is lea salonga! i can really recognize the voice.

  • @owenreyes I remember her best as Eponine in "Les Miserables" 10th anniversary concert in Royal Albert Hall (I think?). Her name is very familiar. I think she did, now that I think of it. I'm surprised that she doesn't appear in this list so far!

  • @loveoldsongs Ok, now I see it! I just didn't scroll down far enough, I guess.

  • This is Lea Salonga

  • Now THIS is what broadway voice sounds like!

  • i still prefer nancy, but lea sings the whole song. and she gets two thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!

  • these others are good, but they do not hold a candle to miss nancey kwan. she is the most

  • She is awesome! She is my voice model!

  • I went to her show, cinderalla. No doubt, she is still the best so far. I loved her voice!

  • I love her she's the best among all the singers

  • Her singing is impeccable. The nuances in the songs and scenes she plays is inimitable.

  • been browsing tons of different versions of this song, and lea has the best

  • @ belkys13 everything Lea sings is dope.

  • she has a strong voice...at times i can hear that she is breathless, but then her voice comes in strong.

  • I love this song! thank you for posting this. x

  • suplada yan sa twitter

  • woo--oow?!?

    why did you say so?!?

i don't see her as being one!

  • I know lea doesn't seem like the most likely choice to play cinderella but there's no denying she has one of the best voices and acting skills. I think lea could pull off anything plus she doesn't look that old too me Lol :)

  • I love Lea!

  • her voice is so beautiful and enchanting, it almost seems inhuman! lolz...in a good way... bravo lea and the filipino! :D

  • did she win the grammy`s??...

    bravo lea!!

  • Versatile artist..Bravo Lea :)

  • hey eaewan, she's too old to play cinderella too.

but listen to her voice with this song,

    does she sound old?

  • jomigu09 you sounds envious heheheheh

  • First time to hear this song. Nice bravo Leah.

  • did you see her playing cinderella?

She is so great thta it doesn´t seem that she is 38 years old and in an interview she said that she was very surprised that she was asked to play cinderella!!!

  • ah, JMASSARO...IT IS THE BROADWAY PRINCESS PAR EXCELLANCE, ONE OF BROADWAY`S ELITE - "Ms. LEA SALONGA"...

    DUHHHH!!!

  • Lea is the most amazing Broadway leading lady.

  • It actually is Lea Salonga singing. This audio came from her performance during her Broadway concert. You can watch her sing it in the video "Selections from 'Flower Drum Song' ~ Lea Salonga" under Related Videos.

  • ah, excuse me!! THIS IS LEA SALONGA... check it out bro.... SHE SANG THIS SONG IN MANILA DURING HER BROADWAY CONCERT... duhhhh!!

ALL LEA FANS KNEW THAT THIS IS HER VOICE...!!

    YOU MUST BE JOKING!!!

  • Lea is a goddess, I adore her!

  • thats not really vibrato. its some but i have alot more. i luv lea solonga!!!! wen i grow up i hope to be like her!!

  • good for you..

  • brillinat lyrics, and fenominal Lea. the truth of a girl life :pppp

  • It sounds like Lea's vibrato. But I agree that she does sound a little bit different. It's her though.

  • ahh yes susie wong right? i loveeee this song =D

  • so, I just found this song... AND I TOTALLY LOVE IT!!!

  • This version of "I Enjoy Being a Girl" was sung by Lea Salonga during her "Broadway Concert" (on somewhat hard-to-get DVD & CD), but I like the scenes from the show it's from.

  • This is Lea Salonga, Ive watched this in Broadway. And I have the cd of the flower drum song!

  • This is the broadway cast. It is NOT Lea.

The voice is too broadway brassy. It is the actress who plays the night club singer.

  • hello??? are you okay??? ive got a bunch of cd's of leah... and she even sang this song during her concert in the philippines..............

  • Then u'r not fully familiar with leah's voice. It is SO her!

  • do u know Lea's Broadway Concert???

    buy a cd

    or a dvd

    watch her

    listen to her

  • this is the exact song and version she made with the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra

that voice belongs to Lea Salonga, and she was accompanied by the SMPO...

    well i think u underestimated lea's voice

but the fact that u didnt believe its her, means that u unconsciously agreed that she is really really good and admit it, she sang it better that the club girl coz ive also heard her version(coz u thought its from the actual broadway)

  • buy the cds and listen to it and if u hav it can u please post it?

    ENJOY!!!

  • Sorry. I own the broadway album and the dvd.

I am big fan of Lea and it is not Lea. I saw Flower Drum Song on broadway. Did you?

  • yup! and i heard this song, it was done by the other girl (not lea)

but this particular song was performed during her broadway concert (with the SMPO)

maybe u have THE FLOWER DRUM SONG ALBUM, not her Broadway Concert Album

  • yup i agree!!!

    this rendition was leas

although in the actual broadway it wasnt her song, i think it was the clubgirl who sang this

but this version is hers, i watched her concert in phil and bought her cd so i know its her

and i also bought a flower drum song soundtrack so no worry...

    ITS REALLY HER!!!

  • this really is her... search for it on youtube... type the song title and "Lea Salonga"... you'll see it live.

  • This is Lea's voice but she didn't perform it on broadway. This song was from her concert in the Philippines that featured her favorite broadway songs.

  • She definitely did perform it on broadway. I went and saw her.

  • Yes, she did. she did the musical play first in LA. what imeant was she did not perform that particular song in the show. it was a song of the other female character.

  • EXCELENT!!!

  • Lea's voice has not change..it is still as powerful as when she is staring in Repertory Philippines.

  • Please vote for Lea Salonga at voote dot com website (u know what letters come before and after the "voote" word, can't post it here) as Hottest Female of Asian Origin. Thanks!

  • Yeah, it's from Lea's CD The Broadway Concert. She sang this song and Love, Look Away from Flower Drum Song. You can tell she wanted to sing this song! :)

  • she'll be mad coz u don't know how to spell her name

  • yes this is leah for sure..... she can manipulate voice projections... i've heard her sang this particular song with a different twist and sound.... like this one!!!!! i love you leah!!!

  • If you doubt that it's Lea, go to Amazon and listen to a clip of "I Enjoy Being a Girl" from the revival cast. They sound nothing the same. This is obviously Lea.

  • galing talaga ni idol

  • goooooooooooooooooooooooo i like the song

  • i wish i saw this show!:(

  • OBviously this is lea...common...

  • I'd rather see a video of this performance!

  • still lea,i owned the cd concert.sorry.

  • hi there chaps, as i searched for lea here, i knew that you would post one as this... hahahaha i really enjoy this... this is me julius...

  • Just heard her version of "Pie Jesu", and now this. Wow. What clarity! What versatility! What a range! What class! What control!

I'm an official fan. :) Thanks for sharing this.

  • yup..this lea...i have a cd of lea singing broadway songs and this is one of them...the strong voice and the alto thing is part of her character in the musical

  • Very classy and talented. I will always be fan forever!!!

  • i told you! it's lea! purely lea's voice! she just sang the song i enjoy being a girl for the audience!

  • it's lea. check out the original recording the the "flower drum song" that she was in recently.

  • I've changed my mind... IT IS HER!!! I'VE Just heard SANDRA ALLEN. WAY DIFFERENT!!! :D

  • If it were Lea, It would have some vibrato in it. I'm filipino and I've heard a LOT of Lea's songs in concerts and stuff. I'm not against you guys saying that this is Lea, but Lea's voice is more light and sweet. The vocals here are more strong and alto. Just think about it. In MY opinion, it's Sandra Allen, but everyone has a their right to their own Opinions

  • yes lol! definitely leah's...

  • i also saw the video of this song lea doing a duet but this one is definitely lea's voice

  • lea sings the first part and then joan the next. they actually performed this song both. there is a mt video accompanying this song.

  • joan almedilla?

  • i have the concert cd and i also am from the Philippines and I KNOW Lea's voice. She just sang "I enjoy Being A girl" and "Love, Look Away." i was even there at her concert.

    I LOVE LEA!

  • so you're saying that most of this song wasn't lea? 'cause i really enjoyed the song...

  • I was involved in this production from The Mark Taper Forum production in LA to The Virginia Theatre Broadway production and this IS 100 percent Sandra Allen. Live.

  • Hold Lea Salonga's Broadway Concert in manila.I bought the Cd in the Philippines and this is ABSOLUTELY LEA SALONGA.Lea's voice if LIVE is so POWERFUL and very UNBELIEVABLE. I REMAIN SAYING this is LEA.I have the CD and VCD of this.

  • This is Lea Salonga!!! I saw a video with their duet. But this one is Lea Salonga.

  • i have been listening to lea salonga since she was a kid, it is lea singin. ive also seen the mark taper forum version where sanra sang this but dont you forget lea sang it too.

  • I Strongly agree with you chapsbryan.i also have this broadway cd and dvd concert of lea and this is really her voice and NOT sandra allen or anybody else.THIS IS LIVE RECORDING!

  • This is sandra allen. Lea gets to do the reprise.

  • i still remain of saying that this is lea salonga.i ripped it from her broadway concert album.please do buy it to believe.

  • i own the cd,and i saw the concert.

believe you me,it is none other than

    LEA SALONGA!

  • this is definitely lea salonga beyond any doubt.check her performance in her broadway concert in manila.

  • She definitely didn't play Linda Low (who sings the song in the show) in this show..so this can't be her..If anything this must be Sandra Allen. She played Mei-Li.

  • this is definitely lea salonga in her broadway concert.please check it out to believe.

  • this is definitely lea salonga beyond any doubt.check her performance in her broadway concert in manila.

  • That's undisputable if they ripped if from the album, right?

  • Marilag19 and chellepang, you are both right. This was taken from her Broadway concert. But let us also take note the Lea also recorded this song in her Flower Drum Song Album with Jose Llana and with the other talented casts of the said Musical. And it was nominated in the 46th Grammy Awards.

  • i have to agree with chellepang. i have the copy of the libretto.

  • yayyy jose llana from spelling bee!!

  • for me that's the best version of that song. i really really love her!thanks for the video.

  • she sounded like she was running out of breath as well..hehe..but i still love her!

  • because it was live and she was dancing! and the rhythm beats fast and her voice has to be kept solid all through out

  • I don't think this was from the FDS soundtrack; it was from her Broadway Concert album, you can hear from the applause at the end. Besides this song wasn't sung by Lea's character Mei Li; it was Linda's song.

  • Yupie! It was a concert staged by LEA SALONGA in MAnila in her BROADWAY CONCERT ALBUM. (still LEA!)

  • it doesn't sound like Lea in the beginning...the rest of the song it DOES sound like her..
