nothing screams desperation more than a LV bag. i was in Paris recently, and was told that no Parisian would be caught dead with anything LV, it's hideous and gauche.

I only use LV carry-ons.
Hartmann has some hardside luggage that look much like the LV's but cost way less and I feel better about checking those...
