I agree that bike riders get a lot of crap; but I saw a lot of your footage on the news yesterday and I have to agree with some of the comments here. Your in the city and you arrogantly continued along in heavy traffic and the pedestrian just wanted to get out of the way of a turning car. Also, what was that video on the news I saw all about. riding up behind merging cars then blasting your bike horn. Your looking for trouble mate
Most of the news footage wasnt mine (and that wasnt me on the news) - agree riding back up towads the car near that speed hump was silly - think the cyclist was venting.
No - the ped could have easily stopped on the wide median (grey stone), they werent looking & tripped over & almost fell straight into my path. The car was not going to collide with them.
Nowhere in any Australian road laws will you find the phrase "x has right of way" - precedence and giving way are circumstantial and depend on the specific scenario not on the participants and the class of vehicle.
there are horror stories from all angles (pedestrian, bicycle rider, motorist). The solution is leave your ego at home and share the road. Don't argue, don't shout, don't be aggressive, just take care.
That clips a bit lame but I like what you're doing. I've been hit a couple of times and if filmed I'm sure the motorists would have been a little more gracious about it.
Feel free to learn the road rules & not look like a fool:
NSW 2008 #239(3) - "A pedestrian who is crossing a bicycle path, or a part of a separated footpath designated for the use of bicycles, must keep out of the path of any bicycle"
NSW 2008 #236(1) - "A pedestrian must not cause a traffic hazard by moving into the path of a driver."
They have to keep out of our way & cant just walk in the path of a moving vehicle either.
What do you expect mate, you need to take care and not be arrogant about your travel means. People in cars take due care to avoid hurting cyclists, you need to take due care with pedestrians. Learn to share and stop giving cyclists a bad name.
Just been watching your videos. Do you put up with that everyday? How many have have you hit? Nice restraint on giving them a mouthful or do you blank that out?

@rigidmount
That is all very well.
But if a driver hits a pedestrian the driver gets taken to court and all sorts.

@TheNZLegend
true, but when the drivers get taken to court - in just 10% of pedestrian deaths - its the drivers fault.
Thats correct TEN PERCENT!
Even i was amazed it was that low! Peds are mostly in the wrong when they get hit by cars.

yeah pretty much! Its gotten a LOT better in the few months the paths have been in, but still 3-4 good ones a week at least.
I've hit 1 - going to court in early March :)
Airzond is the usual remedy, then i mutter to myself normally.
