Still controversial today, but that's just because he had his own strong views and wasn't afraid to express them. The true losers try to please all the people all the time, like some god-damn politician. I like the part where he talks about the impact his actions/words might have on others. Like he says, it's up to them how they receive it; he has no control over that. All you can do is the best you can do. At the end of his life, Ali will genuinely be able to say, "Yeah, I did good."

But some people will say that was because of the Parkinson's but I think that is the real Muhammad ie quiet, shy, humble and caring. He just went through one of those phases when he was younger just like everyone does at some point in their life. Watch his interview with David Frost in 1969 when Ali was a different person.

Not only a smart and thoughtful man, but he gets his points across so well.
I felt like he was talking to me personally throughout the interview.
I'm English and I like the way Parkinson makes his interviews deep and personal.
However sometimes English style can get too, I dunno...rational.

Man, considering none of this is scripted and it's all Ali talking on the spot, he is genuinely great to listen to. A true great man. Many of his views were extreme at that time, but they were also a byproduct of him growing up facing severe oppression and racism. If a young Ali were around today, he'd probably not be like that because there's no environment to produce a hero like him. That is why he is a one-off.
