Texas is an "open fence" state. If you don't own it or have permission to be on it, your tresspassing. Even though Texas is mostly privately held land, there are hundreds of thoudand acres of land to camp/fish/hunt on without being an ass and violating others properties. This is a clasic exmple of someone taking from someone who earned it. No one owes you a damn thing. I do not give one big damn if Oduma and his cronies keep telling you that people do.
I can understand the adventure to this.... but there are risks.... you are "tapping in" to an almost unknown part in many of us .... I congratulate you on your courage to go out and do something so unusual. Have fun and Be Safe !
Nice vid but if I were you it would be smart to carry a bottle of MD 20/20 or Red Rose and some condoms with disinfecting handy wipes. Being that your camping within the city confines bums could have already told stories about this infamous camping area. I would also keep a 22/10 for sume unexpected hunting in those areas.Nice bag!
The camo pattern worked well. Too many people buy blue tarps that don't belong in the wild. I found a tan tarp, and I bought cans of flat brown, black and yellow-green. I worked dark-to-light and shadows to leaves. I did 2 patterns front and back.
In the USA there is a basic concept in the common law of most states that holds, that undeveloped, unfenced, *un-posted* private land is available for anyone to hike, camp, walk, and even hunt and fish on. You’re not doing anything illegal by doing so. To my knowledge, 27 states currently operate this way. Also, once asked to leave, you are trespassing and need to move on immediately. Get permission when you can and check your local and State Laws. You may just be stealth camping legally!
@polanderyt Can you give a list of the 27 states and also where you got that information? Curious because I might be homeless in about another month and want to know where I should go!!
just a quick helpfull tip, for extra stealth, break up the straight lines on your tarp, ie a loose edge, rope some vines ,bushes or chuck some leaves against the edge and up over the top, helps with windchill too, good luck...
I have been thinking of doing the same thing recently. Im in Indiana so there is a good a mount of public land, but you have to pay to use the camp sites. Im want to just set up in the middle the wood in a nice little private spot, these video's are very interesting to me. I think i will try some of your "Stealth Camping" out for my self. Also how did your winchester bowie knife
Considering that some crazies might come out to drink / do drugs in the night, or hobos from the railroad, I would put up some fishing line trip wires to alert me if someone came while I was sleeping..
I went out behind a Walmart in Memphis about 2 years ago and in the woods behind the store was a huge camp site of Mexicans. I was amazed that so many people(My guess is about 25) could live unseen right behind a Walmart.. They had cloths lines strung up and plastic sheeting for extra rain cover.. Anyway, good video.
Im not knocking your video, I think it is good, but with the amount of public, state owned land you can camp on without worrying about getting in trouble, why stealth camp? What you going to do if someone walks up on your camp site asking why your on his land? Good video tho
@agglutination I live in Texas also and can vouch for that. So much land but almost all of it is owned so this kind of stealth camping sounds like a fun thing man, i'm gonna try it. Good video(s)!
@JusLookinRound804 obviously you don't " get it " . If you did you'd understand. It's just the idea of "if no one knows does it matter" ... NO...it don't matter.
@JusLookinRound804 it's purely just for fun... seeing where you can be without anyone knowing... it's called imagination. who cares if someone walks up ? just fun stuff
@JusLookinRound804 Coming from Sweden I can´t really relate to the fact that you are not allowed to camp where ever you want in the woods. Here anyone can camp basically at any forrest or wilderness as long as you do not disturb or do damage to the nature. You are free to pick berrys and mushrooms where ever you find it.
Some exemption for national parks and such.
The basic thought is that the nature belongs to all and is there for all citizens to enjoy.
"Hiding in plain site" Well done much like our Special Forces do while on a mission in Europe and such places. Wearing the civilian clothes and carrying the civilian bag is a grand stealth idea.
I call places like this, finger lands, or honey holes, I don't camp, but I do hunt and trap in them. as to why camp there you need to know your area, never know when you may need to camp lol
theres another dude who does this but high up in trees along freeways and in cities. he seys up a hammock in the dark. the films the people passing below with no clue hes up there
To see some long duration, authentic guerrilla urban camping, come check out my channel. See me tackle the urban jungle while trying to eek out a living on the street. p.s. the difference between a guerrilla urban camper and someone who is homeless is class, wealth and style; oh yeah and that usually someone is homeless due to unfortunate circumstances, whereas an urban camper is there by choice.
@ministercreek Thanks. I'm finally working on some more videos. One of which is actually an urban stealth fishing series. Should be rolling out in the coming weeks.
I kinda like the tarp thingie, but I worry about insects crawing on you while you sleep open like that. I would get a insect net and put it over and under my sleeping tarp for protection man.
@agglutination We call it a hoochie in Australia, the one i have has clips so that you can combine multiple hoochies into on GIGANTIC HOOCHIE!! its pretty cool.
In the depths of the Canadian winter, my sister and her friends sometimes go camping in her living room. That's right, they set up their tents indoors. You can apparently roast marshmallows over the stove....
I stealth camp in a hammock and tarp setup. Camo tarp and skeeter beeter pro. It's comfy. Make sure you eliminate all reflections because that and movement is the biggest givaway. Try to set up camp in a shady spot. Spray paint the silver rings on your tarp black and wear nylon camo. I'm starting a channel showing what I do. Hope you don't wake up to a maglight in the face. I havn't been caught so far. It's fun. Very urban warfare like observation post.
I've seen homeless camps that use your philosophy. They camp illegally and then come out to burglarize cars, sell stolen property, acquire drugs and return to base.
I would have pitched that tarp far lower. As in flush with the ground with leaves piled over it, leaving the peak a few inches higher than the bivy at the head end. In low light the sharp angle and lines of your tarp would give it away more than the color.
Stealth camping is NOT FUN. Seriously, you have to be watching over your shoulder constantly and you have to be prepared to move your ass at all times. Its a ton of work to prepare methods that help you to not get caught doing things that you shouldnt be. Its so much more enjoyable when you are in a wooded area without stupid restrictions.
Yeah, it's not exactly being homeless, because people who do this don't have the mental health problems/addiction of homeless, however it is like being a temporary hobo.
I spent two months in Germany and Holland with £50, which I spent in the first weekend. It was at a time when it was particularly fashionable to go to India, etc. It taught me a lot. Helluva lot.
I'm going stealth camping all summer long on a bicycle journey across the midwest US and Ireland. I have a army issue camo bivy bag and a dark green tarp that should get me by. I have absolutely no money to stay in motels or hostels, I have just enough saved to eat and a few other miscellaneous expenses for 4 months.
For some time now I've been looking for little sppots like that here. Why? Couase we can and should. No one knows or realizes small hubs like that exist with in yards or main arterys and high pop areas.
I think it was okay that you wore a bit of bright yellow. You looked like any other hiker. Although i would of changed into some OD or camo once at your chosen site, (The camo tarp did helo though.
I am camping a city park in Hudson Ohio, behind my friend's house. I will not reveal my exact location.
I recommend a Catoma Combat II Tent. The tent is a copy of the "official" Marine Combat Tent made by Diamond Brand. The colours of the tent will conceal and blend into the enviroment. Best to go "stealth".
I plan to bike from Virginia to Colorado in the spring, I wont have much cash and most of it will go towards food. I need to find a place to stay every 160 miles lol
@the1bigace I rode last summer under similar conditions and minimal gear. I stayed in abandoned houses, commercial buildings and old farm structures. Some urban some rural. Be selective and know you may have to cut a day short because good safe shelter has come your way. Cops DO NOT want to deal with YOU or your BIKE/GEAR. You will only be told to move on........if that! Take a camera and use you phone for weather updates.........roll on!
Well done dude. I have similar kit: camo tarp, paracord & bungees extendable poles (green), camo netting to drape & blend my site into the space I'm in, ARMY sleep bag (reduces in stuff bag just like yours), one man stove + packable cooking kit etc when canoe/wild camp trips. OK, where did you find camo nylon tarps? (I'm assuming it is nylon)
All I can find are plain green ones. I was going to resort to 2 ponchos and just snap them together.
Also what size is it? It looks 8'x10' which is all i really need. I'd take a 10'x12' also.
