  • In 1981, sliding skirts were banned by FISA requiring a 6cm gap between the skirt and the ground (until Brabham developed their hydraulic jacking system which lowered the car at speed to seal the gap to the ground), but due to the FISA - FOCA war, the race was run under Formula Libre rules which allowed sliding skirts. The cars look more like 1982 cars, where instead of a sliding skirt, a flexible rubbing strip was used, so effective with massive downforce that front wings were not needed. Nice!
