  • I wonder if the Ape got to hit that.

  • Man, commercials are so bland nowadays. l:(

  • Those home video games will never catch on.

  • The atari 2600 version looks nothing like the colecovision version

  • I miss being excited about this commercial. Somehow it seemed like something great was coming and it was! But later in life.. now I just look forward to... what? I don't really know anymore. Damn aging and getting old.

  • That actually looked like a pretty good version.

  • The best sort of cheese.

  • you know apes do white chicks in the ass.

  • the game was great, this ad is pure 80s, low-rent cheese.

  • Oh Donkey Kong, when will you learn not to rape random women!

  • @drakeTM1 You can't spell "rape" without "ape".

  • @guruatomik Horrifyingly wrongfully true...

  • This version blew away home gaming in 1982. It was unbelievable to be able to play this at home back then. It was amazing to be a kid in the early '80's with consumer home electronics taking off. I even remember being fascinated with those gaming watches that Casio was selling then with all the muscial chimes and all. I guess it was the handheld electronic games from Mattel and Coleco that started it all in the late '70's and I still have them. It's a totally different scene now.

  • uuhhhmmm if a guy in a monkey suit grabs my girlfrend i think i grab my gun :o

  • @TheKshow101 wow ur awesome

  • @Silverluigi98 oh thanks! But ask yourself... what will you do when a maniac in a monkey suite grabs your grilfrend? playing on you Coleco will not help i think ;)

  • @TheKshow101 I'm not a good jumper, so I'm going to get screwed anyway. Those large barrels can KILL you if they hit. Also, you have flame wisps to worry about too, which is why you don't set crude oil on fire...

  • @Agent1W Maybe with some practise you will kick ass!

  • Hey, why don't they show the graphics from the Atari 2600 or Intellivision versions?

Oh yeah, that's right. They suck!

  • my grandpa got the dangerious high score on donkey kong in arcade it broke the machine his score was 3782024

  • im glad i wasnt heavy on gaming till N64.

  • @Ajeel06 why?

  • @Ajeel06 The VIC 20 had good games too. I went from Atari to VIC 20 to C 64.

  • @jugglingembalmer You've got company and it was a great time! Something the younger generations today could never understand.

  • The first NES I saw was at FAO Schwarz in San Francisco in December 1985- I'd read articles about it at least a year before then and I didn't think it was ever going to come out since the video game market was pretty much dead by then. I bought mine in September 1986- Super Mario Bros was the killer app. I didn't think the system would be as successful as it was.

I REALLY wanted a Colecovision but there was no way I could afford one at the time- later I bought one for 15 bucks at a thrift store.

  • The Atari port sucked

  • I think I remember this commercial

  • Dude, the original Donkey Kong looked EXACTLY like Colecovision version.

  • Except the first level is reversed.

  • Or would it be better to say, the Colecovision port lookede identical to the arcade? :) Simple word reversal I felt like nitpicking at. Your ability to notice that is not bad at all, however.

  • Except original DK had four levels, whereas Colecovision only had three.

  • @joepod Even the NES only has three levels. I was so pissed off when I downloaded it to my Wii; even the C64 version had all 4 levels.

  • Colecovision was bad ass.

  • Old School

  • i miss this kind of ads they say its an good game now all the game ads bring up magazine reviews this was funny but no ads are funny anymore

  • Excellent.

  • I think that's beta it looks blue I have it and it's red.

  • the guy in this comercial is an ass. his girlfriend is getting kidnapped by a gorilla and he doesnt do a damn thing about it except play video games.

  • I think that chick was doing Donkey Kong. Who else thinks she was doing Donkey Kong? You know what they say, once you go primate you never go back.

  • Wow, the people who made this didn't even bother trying to make a decent commercial. Just so long as you know Donkey Kong is on a home system, that's all that matters. HAHAHA!!

  • Yes, but he's kicking virtual gorilla ass! =P

  • "Won't that be fun? Huh? Well, won't it? You better say yes or it's the crawl space for you!"

  • worst...husband...ever

  • more like best

  • :P LOLZ

Dont worry i save you honey!

  • no it wont be fun...ever

  • Soon you can play dockey kong on your ShitBox (tm)

  • Get your hands off her you damn horny ape!!!

  • ''Don't worry honey, I'll save you!''

    *Donkey Kong steals guy's wife*

    roflmao!

  • And the guy is... Mario "Jumpman" Mario!

  • gorilla kidnaps and rapes your wife: sorry dear im buzy playing mah videagemz

  • Horny ape!!

  • That October 85 release date just isn't true. I remember the 80s, and I also remember the NES making its American debut in 1986..

  • I was wrong about Colecovision's launch year, but I'm certain that Nintendo launched the Japanese Famicom in 85. NES was launched in 1986 (I remember buying one back then).

  • This aired during the spring of 1982, as it notes the game (and console) were "COMING SOON." The CV was eventually released in August 1982.

  • NES wasnt out yet, this is probably from the early 80's

  • Coleco was produced in 1983.

  • it's NES not NESS Isn't this also before SEGA Dreamcast?

  • woah! it's way before the sega dreamcast, the dreamcast came out in 1999

  • ROFL

    XD

  • This is wayy before the sega dreamcast. The dreamcast is in the same generation as the ps2, xbox, and gamecube but it just flopped.

  • And it came out first, too. Gamecube was the late comer. Nintendo always did come out last (seriously, SNES, N64, Gamecube. Sometimes a year or even two years after the first of a new 'generation' of consoles).

  • That makes me want to play this game!

  • Theese commercial beats 360 ones.

  • "won't that be fun"

is that supposed to be the tag line? wow, now i really want to go out and buy it.

  • NES version is better :D

  • Idiot. That's like saying some xbox360 game is better than the old version on a ps1.

  • Where's the kill screen?

  • wow

  • In the early 80's the colecovision was grater than a PS3 today. thank you for this video!!!!

  • Colecovision was the first system I owned that actually WAS like the arcade version. Donkey Kong especially. Everything up to it was a really BAD attempt.

  • holy shit!

  • And someday, kids, you can play it on your GBA! Won't that be much fun?

  • It's already out but what you are talking about is quite funny. Rescuing your girlfreind and playing the game in one! 80

  • Mario!!!

  • I actually remember that commercial. I had the Donkey Kong port for the Atari 26000; man, did it ever suck! I probably would have considered blowing someone for a Colecovision 25 years ago....

  • He's holding the controller upside-down...

  • HAHA! That dude was also in the commercial for the Donkey Kong Jr. as Evil Mario.

  • diddy kong u mean?

  • Mario's original name was Jumpman wasn't it?.

  • yeah

  • GO CONNECTICUT LEATHER COMPANY!!!

  • Obviously this ad first aired in 1982, as that was the year of the ColecoVision launch.

  • An Early Mario appearence. Live Action No less.
