  • Who're the sonsabitches who disliked?!

  • One of these snare drummers is now my schools band director, Mr. Joe Carver

  • cymbal player at 8:28 makes my life.

  • why do they have to toms?

    not quads..or quints..they are what...duces? haha

  • Duos?!!!

  • @Ladynovmoonstar

    Well done.

  • See, this is why kids love marching band! They can dance around and not et looked at as if they were smokin something!

  • I like the sound of the duos. Gives an old school sound that most DCI-ers can't appreciate, but I love it. Thumbs up on the entertainment value as well.

  • GGGGRRRRRREEEEAAAATTTTT! ENJOYED ALL OF THIS VID! THANKS FOR POSTING!

  • the kids are so young how is it a college?

  • @dj02tc5

Well, this was my Junior year - I'll take that as a compliment ^_^

  • @dj02tc5

we played a lot of these at my high school, maybe they are high-schoolers in college clothing.

  • this drumline was the bomb

  • My high school band takes everything from OU and makes it sound like crap I swear

  • @ArmyRescue1 actually we play the cadences really good. your just never around to see those cuz ur always in the parade

  • @socceraddict18 trust me ive heard them before but OU is way better

  • Now, two questions. Why march duos and not quints or sextets? Is that some sort of tradition?

  • @dklohn

It's a tradition that has gone back from 1967 - It actually gives the line more vocal capability and a whole host of rhythmic expressions.

  • @bailesie Actually the "tradition" of "duos" goes back to 1973 with the timbales. Then and prior to that the tenor part was a single instrument played in the same position as a bass drum is played. Someone else will have to speak as to when the single tenor was dropped and duo tenors were added.

  • @bailesie you know, i'm no expert but dont you think that marching with five drums instead of two would give you more vocal capability and a whole host of rhythmic expressions? i'm just sayin

  • Two comments:

    1. Watching the band dance with their instruments like this just made me age about 10 years - that's so much money in damages waiting to happen.

    2. The OU band is good at what it does, and that is what makes it unique.

  • My jr. High director went there. My high school band is bigger than this(150+). But I know they r supposed to keep it this size. I'm probably goin there in a few years and try out for snare.

  • This isn't the whole band. In the Rose Bowl parade, there were over 200. =) Just a name that has stuck. And it even used to be the Marching MEN. Things have changed.

  • @NicoTregs

The 110 has over 200 members. Good luck on your tryouts! I played snare, too.

  • that was cool? but i do have 2 ask, where there any girls in that drumline? ugh... im the only girl at my skool that does drumline! but i play the quints!

  • Hang in there. I played the quint/quad in high school with a girl for 3 years and now she's playing for Norfolk. I'm playing in a drumline that's just getting started. I know a few other girls that can play other drums better than a lot of guys too.

  • does anyone here know a snare player named pugsly?

  • Yup.

  • sweet

  • Heard of him, probably met him when I was drunk, don't know the face.

  • Haha my band director graduated from there to and so did his wife xD Mr.Stanley xD

We do this same style to and it is fun xD

  • ... who is this?

  • i go to johnstown high school and our band director was in the drumline at OU. Our band is the exact same style as they are. its fun. check out some videos of the Big Red Band. [:

  • Joe and I marched together - tell him Bailes says hello and that I'll see him at Homecoming!

  • aww thats awesome! [: we all love him. ha

    will do. ha [:

  • Yes, we have cigarettes that march in the 110, Good observation! Here's your cookie.

  • 1:36 and thus hardcore dancing was born!

  • @Abadabedaba I thought the same thing, lol.

  • 0:21 is that the video or is that written

  • It was a glitch in the video

  • i was about to say damn that drumline is hella togther than lmao

  • What kinda tenors are those, i searched them up on the web but couldn't find any of them????

  • The silver ones are timbales, and the 'tenors' are just two tom drums, custom made.

  • My band teacher went to Ohio University. We have part of funk as one of our cadences.Check out Apache Middle School Band and yea were okay

  • im the black dude

  • hahaha

  • Best. Band. Ever. From OU grad 1980 Will never forget watching during football games. Football team sucked...band rocked!!!

  • Am I dumb or am I seeing "duo's"

  • Yes. Yes you are seeing ""duos"". The 110 drum line is a very traditional based percussive group. Been that way since '67.

  • i would love to hear thunder or rampage from these guys.

the drumline im in plays it but were a small high school band.

    3 bass drums

    2 snares

    1 tenor

i play the seccond bass drum

  • Lol, these are so fun to dance to in the stands XD I regocnize most of these.

  • Definitly recognized some of those cadences (Jimbo, Uncertainty, Tequila (or as we call it Mudskipper), ect.). Now I'm actually thinking about going here.

  • hey jimitheguitarist, i'm in the johnstown Big Red Band currently. what'd you think of the pumpkin show? i thought that was awesome...loudest "ain't been good" i've ever heard lol.

  • loving the funk

  • in the graham marching band we always play the funk but when we yell it out we yell fuck, no one has caught it yet.

  • WOW!!! 1:55 was pretty awesome....Excellent visuals and playing! And I would say its an old style corps!

Two problems: The drumline all have different styles of marking time, and some are more zealous about their visuals. Number 2, I don't know if its just supposed to give a relaxed feel to it, but the drumline looking around at each other to see when to go doesn't look very good. It should be practiced enough to be automatic.

    Excellent stuff here!

  • Thanks for the props :) When you see people looking around it's because they're yelling back what cadences is called out. If you watch center right snare, he'll call out what cadence is next and it is cued back through the line. There is no set list of cadences, only what we want to throw out there. And yes, it's a very "chillaxed" line, so to say. :)

  • Nice, I love their enthusiasm.

  • oh my goodness! I LOVE THESE HORN FLASHES & SUCH! AHHH! :) amazing. They make me want to dance! :)

  • our drum line plays alot of these cadences from osu 's drumline like cherry, jimbo, and funkmarch but we kinda changed them a little, and the cadence you hear after every cadence is called cops and we sorta changed it.

  • you mean OU's, not OSU's :)

  • loli would love to see someone play OSU's cadence

  • Is that even possible? Don't you have to be a robot?

  • no but u gotta be hella good

  • Timbales

  • what our the things that only have 2 drums called.

  • Timbales

  • I thought timbales had to have cowbells to be called thimbals...

  • thimbals are those things you put on your thumb when you're sewing

  • lol I'm a idiot

  • reminds me in sponge bob when some thing take along time that narator comes in and is likee "2 HOURS LATER"

  • THAT BAND IS HUGE!!!!

  • Ohio knows how to get down yeah!!!!

  • yall see me...im the black dude

  • i don't think i saw one black dude in this entire video

  • Im next to the one next to the one behind the person next to that person thats in front of him and beside her. ;-}

  • [yupsters]

  • unique.......

  • [hey im from little miami high school and idk if you know but we base our marching band off you guys. i was thinkin of applying at ou since im a senior and im in the drumline but the problem is you guys dont have tenors/guads and thats all i know how to play!!!]

  • ROFL!!! what the hell were those things!?!? Duets? there was only two drums thats hilarious!

  • [yeah they dont have tenors/quads. instead they basically cut it in half give one half to one guy and the other half to the other guy. i forget what they're called. i think ones toms and the other is like tombales or someshit like that]

  • Little Miami High School does variations of a bunch of these cadences: Funk, Jimbo, Cherry, and Street.

  • The Blue Lion marching band does a variation of these cadences. We do Funk, Jimbo, Uncertain, No!, Tequila, Gym Shorts, Mother, Cherry, and of course we do "Cops" for our parade block march. I'm the D-Hole player for the band. It sucks that we cant learn stuff like Robbers, Out Of It, and Cheese Cake...but it would take all year for our line to learn cheese cake.

  • I really enjoyed watching the Blue Lion Band. Though I am predjudiced towards Ohio Univ. since I am a graduate, Blue Lion did pretty good. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

  • oh yeah - and my high school band director was also in it and wrote the heard drum cadences

  • i saw this performance. My boyfriend plays (but not in this performance) the hard work and dedication they put in is like no other. Absolutly phenomenal!

  • z28*

  • This band is not all that great...Sudden Impact is the best!!!

  • Do you have a video of the band you feel is better? If so, share it so we can make the comparison

  • OMG Brad! He came to our Band Camp last year! hehehehe... Hey OU bashers, these guys aren't called the Best Da** Band in the Land for nothing. They look AND sound the best. And, their drumline rocks! So, keep your stupid and immature comments to yourself! ^.^

  • newsflash... the ohio university marching 110 is called the "most exciting band in the land" not the best da**. that's ohio state. this is ohio university. jzt wanted 2 clear that up. no hard feelings. ur right about their drumline rockin though!

  • ^.^; Sorry, we have a coupla' twerps at our school who think they know all there is to know about OU, and that's what they call them. Thanks for correcting me!

  • OMG BRAD! ^.^ He came to our Band Camp last year, hehehe... And, hey, to all you OU bashers, these guys rock! What are you talking about, saying they don't look good?! They aren't called the Best Da*n Band in the Land for nothing! You guys rock!

  • My drumline Instructor was in this line..I don't think that it was this year but he still marched with them!!

  • The forms a little sloppy, not saying that i can play ymself, but i have some serious badass palyers in the drumline, im only in the pit D:

  • this is universty of akon ohio!!!! go bobcats!!!!!

  • Ohio University Marching 110

    Not Akron.

  • I think I heard something along the lines of this at the Summer Cel. Parade.

  • sounds decent but i would be embarrassed to play this cadence. Also, they are lacking technique. And last of all, its 2007, your allowed to use quints instead of whatever those are called

  • The 110 is a traditional band, hence traditional instruments. Technique? Perhaps it's lacking, but you also have to realize that most of the snare line had DCI experience. The style of performance does not need to reflect perfect technique or rudimentary styles.

  • first off- which cadence? and two, the 110's a show band, not a competition band so it really doesn't matter about technique as much as showmanship. the " whatever it's called's" are called TIMBALES. and they're a traditional style band so it really does not matter if it's 2007 or 1967, they can use timbales whenever they feel like it. im standing up for the 110 line. why? because i love them and i would be proud to be a part of them some day. keep up the good work Ohio!

  • thats good that u stick up for them cause they could use a fan but TIMBALES are not sounding good there buddy. But the lack of technique takes away from the look and if they are a show band they they have to look good

  • This college band is good where were they?

  • just so you know - the "jimbo" funk cadence was written by jim warrick, who went on to teach at lakewood high school starting in 1977 - so we were probably one of the first high schools to actually play the jimbo funk cadence - and since ol' jimbo was a percussion major, our drum section was pretty tight...

  • Hey, my high school marching band does jimbo and funk too! Damn, I miss my band... Drum cadences were and are my favorite...

  • The marching band Im in plays most of their stuff and we're on the OU 110 website haha lol

  • What a joy to my heart that these Marching 110 videos are out here on YoutUBE. I graduated in 1980! And we frickin' rocked out then and NOW!! Nobody, but nobody does a college band like OU!! And even the football team is improving.;-) You guys play your heart's out in the GMAC Bowl in January. I'll be there watching!

  • I must agree. As a '73 grad of OU, watching these videos brings back wonderful memories of the 110. The chills we got when they ran onto the football field. Can't beat the feeling. The 110 is the best "GO OHIO"

  • One of the cymbals in the video is a girl :) This year, there's another girl cymbal who is very talented. A few years back, we've had girls on timbales and snare.

  • flam-drag fighter pilots, i like that

  • This is so gay and easy, god.

  • Well, I'm glad you find it light hearted and jovial :) I just love good comments! </sarcasm> Most of our line marches DCI (including the current section leader was top bass of cadets) and are used to more technical playing - OU is a Showstyle hybrid line, hence the easier cadences. They're meant to groove, not to please flam-drag fighter pilots.

  • Flam-drag fighter pilots, that needs to go in the percussion dictionary.

  • Let's not forget just how enjoyable it is to watch you guys actually having FUN! That seems to be an ingredient left out of a lot of drumlines these days.

  • I liked how everything is precise and planned out...but those cadences seem awfully high schoolish...

  • Our Cadences aren't supposed to be difficult and technical, even though most of our line has had corp experience. Also, most of the cadences (aside from Your Mother and Cheese Cake) date back as far as the late 60s. As far as planned out? heh, not really.. You can see pugsley (beside me) calling them out in whatever order he likes :)

  • High schoolish, maybe, but most high schools can't actually play them that well. Almost every beat was hit with pinpoint accuracy.

  • Pelvic thrusting bass drums are amazing.

  • That must hurt the guys for the pelvic thrust with the drum.

I'm in Drumline at a high school, but our cadence is twice as simple at this.

This is is just abit better then some of us, but we are in Major State Marching Band Shows (Against other marching bands), shows, and events, so some of us have really "ill" talents.

  • Bad Ass! I'm a Senior and Bass Squad Leader up here at Tiffin Columbian. We play most of your stuff (Cops, Cherry, Jimbo, ect..), you guys should come up for a game and come down on the field :D OU DRUMLINE ROCKS \m/

  • there you go! show corps. i like the groove. ya'll are welcome to A&T anytime with that.

  • the 110 are the best!
