Great intro vid for the DVD. I've gotta say I was wondering why David asked the model to point her finger up, then I burst out laughing with praise at the resulting image! I'll be using that posing trick in the future. ;-)
@cre8tivity06 He means that he's shooting faster than 1/250th of a second... That's the fastest shutter speed where for a brief moment, the shutter exposes the entire sensor, anything faster and the second part of the shutter is already coming down before the first part exposes the bottom of the sensor (part of the sensor is blocked during the flash)... (Black bars).. but these pocket wizards know when the section of the shutter that wasn't exposed finally is and fires the flash again.

David this is the reason I am into photography. Some people have different hobbies like cars and painting but ever since I got into it deep about a year ago I never looked back.
Instead of using high speed sync, its better to use a ND filter on your lens (when using wide aperture) so that you can have more power output from your speedlight.
David is confusing "high speed" synch with "hypersynch" (they are two different things), but otherwise, a good video. High Speed synch has to do with speedlight flashes like the 580EXII (all the way up to 8000th with the mini/flex system). Hypersynch is the ability (when using the mini/flex system) to use higher than spec shutter speeds (like 500th, rather than 125th for instance) with full studio strobe systems.
@acikes Thanks for the input. I did misspeak when I went above 640th to 800th. However at the time this was filmed I was using the original firmware and at 200th to 640th FP, I was indeed using Hypersync. Hypersync IS used with speedlites such as the 580’s. From 200th to 640th FP was Hypersync and from 640th to 8000th was High Speed Sync. Current firmwares default switches to High Speed at 320th on the 5D, but can be set to switch at 640th in the PW utility.
@acikes Other cameras may require different settings. And I should note that you need to fine tune the timing in the PW Utility to best match your models shutter. (See the PW Manual for details)
@ekwosi it called HOODMAN when u r in location that its too sunny and ur not able to see ur lcd u can use it first when it cames it was 20 box now because they get customer they are selling for 90
We are commercial photographers based in Calgary, Alberta. In the studio we use Pocket Wizard all the time. Outside however or even in a large enclosed area such as an airport the MiniTT and Fkex5 simply don't work. The max ETTL range with our 780's is no more than than 10 - 20ft In fact, we get better line of sight coverage using IR. Also. The TT1 uses a battery that is very hard to replace. Even our camera store don't stock them!
Still trying to figure out how your getting reliable firing with the PW's i have 2 flex and mini like you but the range is terible even at distances your assist are at. tried all PW ant angle suggestions. Any tips on this in your upcoming DVD?

Can you do "hyper sync" with off camera flash in manual or does it have to be ETTL (w/ pocket wizards)? Canon 580 X II's tks.

What do you mean by "hyper sync"

How is your AF point set up in your camera, please. As I understand it is important for how your result will be using TTL

Go to PW's web site and register your PW and get a free soft shield. I just got mine and it makes a big difference in range and reliability.
