I have a 76 with Mid American stainless steel baffled dual exhaust pipes. No converter or mufflers. It sounds like this one. It's incredible, and will set off neighboring car alarms on acceleration, but a tenderfoot can manage it, kind of!
The whole deal is that the noise level is not the big thing. The big thing was that in 78 the L-82 Vette was the only car that sounded like it had a high performance cam in it from the factory.Thats the way they sounded on cold start up.
dual straights with no mufflers correct? not open headers? was there any noticable loss of torque like u get with open headers compared to full exhaust?
i now have the Monza mufflers on it, you can see my other video with the Monza muufler tips. Not as loud as straight pipes . I think it sounds a little better. I will be running it this year at Englishtown NJ to compare ET with these new mods installed
IT'S ALIIIVE!!!! AHHAHHHAHAHA!!!! (crazy laugh, sorry, could not contain myself)...my uncle has a 76 vette, he always used to say he'd give me a ride if I put my diaper on first...lol.
unless the car is a racer (which i dont think it is cuz it does 1/4 in 14s) it has to have a full exhaust system cuz if u dont u can be charged with noise pollution ... also keep in mind that it must also pas emissions to be street legal which means could mean that the car has two or more cats .... in order to produce a sound like that and still be street legal the car must have a dump valve or open exhaust system ......... (1 of 2)
a dump valve system involves two "dump valves" which break off from the normal exhaust system omitting the cats, resonators, mufflers and about 5-7 feet of piping ... the way the valve works is inside the car there a switch and when opened the valve basically opens the valve allowing the exhaust to pass thought the car directly from the engine (or headers if u have them) .... i no this b/c i have this on a 1968 chevelle but i am also an custom exhaust technician and fabricator
They're also called electric cutouts. Because energy (the exhaust) will always flow with the path of least resistance, the exhaust will exit out of the valves before it goes down through the rest of the exhaust system.
so their is no muffler just head and cat along with is it street legal

No dual exhaust. stock exhaust Y pipe going into high flow converter then out to two 2.5" pipes but NO MUFFLERS

yesterday i took both mufflers of my '74 lincoln with 460 in it... same sound but a lot louder.... nice
grauhst 2 years ago
Why would you have a 460 in a lincoln?? Even though some lincolns came out with them..
Sarcasticscum 2 years ago
all '74 Lincolns came out with ford 460 engine.
grauhst 2 years ago
Uhh, are you sure???? I've saw most with a 351W in them.
Sarcasticscum 2 years ago
yeah i am sure. 1974 there were only lincoln continental mark IV and lincoln continental. both with 460.
grauhst 2 years ago
Oh, ok well I'm not very fluent with Lincoln cars..
