Why doesn't the justice system start combating the problem with community service? seems the perfect solution to anyone caught littering anywhere, 10 hours community service on the spot 'fine' no matter who you are or what you do for a living. add in the € fine and see how long it takes to clean up the place. I'm sick of seeing our waterways destroyed by careless people, as an angler i bring all rubbish home and never break a branch from a tree for fuel, i bring a flask. shame on those who don't

i hate when i see people littering like that, i dont think the litter issue is ruining my countries buety lol but its annoying, mostly young people in feilds and places drinking, away from their parents so they wont get caught.

I am looking at illegal dumping and road-side littering in Ireland for years now. It has got worse,and it is very sad to see. People have no respect for their environment and no civic responsibility.

It seems to be part of the mentality here.

Disgraceful, to say the least. Stiff fines and community service clean up is the answer for people who refuse to pick up after themselves.

It's amazing how the world is some people's garbage dump...I walk to work and pick pickup garbage in my little town each day. We visited Hawaii a few years ago and noticed car batteries and garbage dumped by the side of the ocean...paradise..right? Thanks for the post..proves there are thoughtless, lazy slobs throughout the planet...

I live in rural Illinois same place my father grew up. His family would hunt year round and fish most of the year. Now it's impossible to eat fish out of any of the rivers. Its sad people use nature as a dump. I'm no hippie or anything but I believe it's everyone's responsibility to take care of the environment. It's just pure laziness which causes these kinds of problems.

They are not only kids, Fightingirishdotcom...and if they are, in my country many hours and much money has been dedicated to train our youth not to litter...I don't have an answer...some people at any age just don't give a damn!!

Very sad. I have seen similar images in other countries. To save the beauty of your land, I think you need 2 things: 1 the mind set that you are trying to promote here that this beauty is worth protecting and that litter has to place here in within the majority of people and 2 that the community you live in puts priority on this and has money to clean it up regularly if need be.
