I like your vid; I love Spock. So much contaversy in people's opinions below!
I went to see Nimoy receive the Space Foundation's Outreach award April/2010. He spoke beautifully.
The head of the Foundation introduced him thusly: "There will always be only one 007: Sean Connory, and one Mr. Spock: Leonard Nimoy". Deafening applause.
@sondano My own personal feelings aside about your arguments... Why are you wasting your time talking about how S/U is a travesty on a video where S/U fans are going to have a laugh?
Seriously, go somewhere else. Go blog about it. Nobody here wants to hear it. You're not going to sway the opinions of people who thought the movie was good and that S/U makes sense just like we're not going to change your mind no matter what we say either.
@tiemedown no she doesn't. She merely sings a funny song about him in front of a bunch of crewmen then sings a similarly funny song about Charlie X. So that means she had a crush on Charlie too? That she would have causally licked his face in the transporter room? It's a shame what JJ did to these two great characters. Reducing them to some silly teen idol couple.
quote from uhura " why dont you tell me im an attractive young lady, or ask me if ive ever been in love"
she never said that to charlie. the songs were also drastically different. she never tailored a romantic song to anyone else. she liked spock for a few weeks and then got over her crush. at this point a relationship for spock is impossible even if he is intrigued but in another universe it is entirely logical that two intelligent people latched on to each other.
hm...ok and do you care to watch how that scene ends? If anything it shows that Spock is totally unemotional and has zero interest in romance or other human stuff. Uhura angrily turns away from him. As for that song just what exactly makes it romantic? It makes fun of Spock's essential traits and that's it. Everybody laughs. Not exactly the reaction to a romantic scene. Also liking someone is quite different from kissing her causally as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
The beauty of nimoys role was the subtle inflections of emotion in his role. He endures the song with a long suffering sigh but plays it out with her as if theyd done it many times before. They have the casual relationship of ship mates, but it was a very intimate thing for spock to play in their company-- the song is teasing and makes him part of the group. the tos relationship has more depth because spock of tos has more issues. i cite the absence of sybok for this.
Oh man, you're such a downer. The new movie is good in that it had excitement and drama that is contemporary with today's audiences. I'm an obsessive fan of TOS and Nimoy's Spock is my all-time favorite character, but I could still get into the the reboot and enjoy it for what it was...besides the Spock/Uhura relationship was such a minor blip in the whole movie, it barely registered as a real plot line.
"that is contemporary with today's audiences". Yeah yeah. That's exactly what makes the movie so unintelligent. It's sooo obviously early 21st century it has none of the futuristic vision of the original Star Trek. Despite the sets and props and SFX TOS seems to be far more visionary than this generic action flick. The Spock/Uhura thing is just one of many many blips that attack the fascinating and delicate character that Roddenberry Nimoy the TOS writers and directors built up.
you have to allow for differences in characterization because of the interference in the past. it is part of the story, and as a diehard fan i appreciated the move because it did not infringe upon the original or try to be a caricature. spock is a new interpretation, the idea that his mother had a greater influence on his decisions than his father, which consequently makes his anger a more focal emotion, rather than his sadness as noted in tos. its a different story and must be viewed as such.
Adorable! I', a Trek fan from the beginning, and I loved the Spock/Uhura THANG in the new movie, maybe in the next pic we'll see a triangle between he, Uhura, and Chapel!
Love how Cindi Lauper sounds like Betty Boop here (intentional, no doubt!) Thanks
This is simply FANTASTIC! So cute, so nice: I like it so much! And Spock and Uhura could be such a smart couple! I'd like her with Spock much more than Christine! great work!
...and yes, I agree: Spock is quite, quite unusual!
snape and annafrancesca: Me three! :) Uhura is stronger, spunkier. Spock/Christine just always seemed so unequal. Even though that scene in Amok Time gives me goosebumps every time.
Plus, Uhura seems to be less of a target of the whole uber-sensitive female stereotype. Christine kinda seemed like she was bursting into tears all the time.
Two things I never realized until recently. 1: How hot Spock actually is; 2: Spock and Uhura had a "thing". Wow I can be oblivious at times! LOL.
Great video!

@sondano LOL, you are so upset by this, yet Leonard Nimoy himself approved of EVERYTHING in the new 2009 movie...
