I'm making my cousin's wedding cake in June and although I've made tiered cakes before I've never had to leave them sat out before they've been eaten. How long in advance would you think I could assemble the cake with the dowels etc.
Hello Jane! I feel that a wedding cake is a true baker's challenge! I've been baking for a while and I have always shied away from a wedding cake. However, I want to bake this for my mother's birthday. I have a few questions: 1) Could I make 2 14 inch, 2 10 inch, and 2 6 inch cakes and if I even the layers can I stack the layers to form a 3 tier cake? 2) I will need dowels to support the layers I know that, but they need to be cut so the next tier rests on top, correct? Thank you~ Nick
Very nice cake and tutorial. Even if some people don't have the presence of mind to realize brooches and ribbon are not to be eaten along with the cake, lol.
To answer Showgirl Lola's beautifully posed question: you remove the f***ing ribbons before you cut the cake. How stupid of me not to include that instruction...
Or, of course you could use edible ribbon, either bought or home-made from strips of roll-out icing. But ordinary ribbon is very traditional on wedding cakes.
@tmartinezist So, eh, Are you offended then.? I'm Scottish and one of the ways thats often used to wind us up is the drunk troublemaking Scotsman. We don't get offended by this stereotype as its humour, its a joke. Ha ha ha hee hee hee, etc. Sticks and stones ( you know the rest ) Now if we all get offended over CHARACTER
HUMOUR ! Theres no Bill Hicks, Bill Bailey, Monty Python, the list is endless...G...
Of course you could always make an edible decoration and edible ribbon for this, but that would use more advanced techniques: I wanted to show how anyone can make something really beautiful very simply! The weight of the cake is supported by wooden dowels and you can see in the video how they are applied. Thanks for all your comments and have a wonderful
Just responding to sushimama's comment about the decoration: it is in fact quite a heavy, metal brooch and very beautiful in 'real life'. The video probably doesn't do it justice
Fantastic! Thank you.
