  • my 2000 eclipse has a problem with the iac... i clean just like the video, now the car revs all the way to 3000 rpms do i need to change the iac?

  • @bossdeltapollito Maybe did you drive it for a while to see if the rpms slowed back down?if they didn't it might be to late to save it by cleaning.

  • did you also go with the rag on the maf sensor?

  • @one4all101 No i just sprayed it a couple times,it really didn't look that dirty but it doesn't hurt to spray it anyway

  • my eclipse gt is idling low at start up only, almost sounding like it wants to die, sometimes with the dash lights coming on,till it warms for a sec. then idles fine? gonna try this and hope it goes away

  • @1991aperez yea man sound like you need a cleaning before it gets worse.

  • You are a life saver.. This keeps happening to me, especially after I change the battery.... weird

  • Did your car idle real low when you first started it before you cleaned it.. My 2000 Eclipse has a real low idle at start and then we could drive it around fine for awhile but after the car warmed up real good it would start holding back and then it wouldn't run at all atleast not for awhile.. Any answer would help.. Its driving me crazy lol

  • @mclane345 yes it did idle low so low it would cut off on me when i stopped. It seems like the idle air control valve goes bad on the 2000 ,2001 eclipse after 140,000 miles. Guess i was lucky i just cleaned mine and it idles fine now and its been a year.As far as the holding back,it could be something to do with the idle air valve or the intake. Give it a good cleaning and let me know how it rides.

  • My Eclipse was doing the same thing and this did the trick! Thanks for posting.

  • thanks for info.. i have the same car...wish you knew how to change timing belts. lol i just had that done....

  • @lastburn1 yea i have ti change my timing belt out now thought about doing it myself but i dnt have a garage and ive never done it before.Did you take it to the dealership and how much did it cost? around here the dealer wants around $800

  • Thank you 4 making this vidoe!!

  • When you say cut off, do you mean that your RPMs would fluxuate irradically when trying to idle and it usually stalls? that's what's happening to me right now and Im throwing an IAC code.. gonna try this.

  • Not a bad how to vid but you might want to read the back of that MAF cleaner, it's not supposed to be used on certain vehicles and Mitsubishi's are one of them and I think Lexus as well. I'm not sure why, I've never heard of anyone having any problems using it but just thought I'd throw that out there.

  • @79nutterbutter done some research and it says on the can not to use on the karman-vortex sensors which are only used on the turbocharged mitsubishi's

  • @usc5299 Ahh, gotcha. You'll love this though, after looking at your vid today I called the local dealership out of curiosity and the "tech" told me that you can't clean a MAF. I hate dealerships.

  • @79nutterbutter hahha really they said that? well why do they sale maf cleaner? hahhaa

  • @madoggyd uhhh, ok

  • @79nutterbutter left the reply to the wrong person, sorry bro.

  • Same here I have a 03 Galant v6, the capon-its are almost or exactly the same. I installed a new set of NGK wires and spark plugs which took me about 5hr, since it was my first time and I was going off instruction someone like you (god sent) had posted online. Psssh, if I was a female I would cry. You saved me around $300. Many many thanks!

  • @cmx1106 no problem man glad i could help. how many mile did you have on the car when it started acting up on you?

  • Hey i have a 2001 eclipse and im experiencing the same problem. one small question, did ure rpm meeter keep moving while u wer coming to a stop?

  • @jos76e831 yes it would jump up and down then it would just go dead clean ur iac throttle body and stuff and see if that helps

  • Great video! It helped me with an old car I have (2003 Mitsubishi Galant v6). The service engine light came on and I was experiencing rough idel and some failed start-ups. I took it to my local auto parts store and they plugged in the code reader and it gave a IAC flow low. The part was around 300 dollars. Youre video saved me alot! After cleaning it all proplems went away. P.S. the engine on your Eclipse is very similar to the Galant.

  • @ericblack92 Thanks man glad i could help

  • @ericblack92 yeah those eclipse are badass... when you going to get one? =)

  • Thank you so much. I have had the same stalling problem after I replaced the alternator on my 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T (same exact engine as Eclipse GT). Did car reset and did the RPM drop and go wacky after unplugging the battery? I read that these engines need to "relearn" the base RPM again if ever the battery is unplugged.

  • How is your car doing sense the cleaning?

  • @sensesfail360 well before the cleaning it would cut off on me at red lights and stop signs and it hasnt done that since ive cleaned it and thats been almost a year ago

  • @usc5299 Alright, im looking to doing this to my car this weekend. Its been having a rough idel and i cant seem to see why thats going on.

  • @sensesfail360 believe it as my idle air control valve (iac) that needed cleaning cause it as dirtyyyyyyy clean it all first before you go out and spend alot of money let me know if it helped

  • @usc5299 I see a lot of people bashing you for cleaning that though, but you say your car is all good even after cleaning it?

  • @sensesfail360 yeah your gonna have those kinda people no matter what you do,but yes after 10 years of driving my throttle body was black and caked up and the iac valve was the same and while i had it apart i cleaned the maf sensor my car has been good ever since no problems

  • @usc5299 Interesting. Maybe it is a ploy by Mitsubishi to sell more parts. Like I said, I cleaned mine with a dry rag as per some other information I found online. Haven't had a chance to drive much yet. Hopefully that will clear it up, if not, I might as well try the solvent since it is only one step away from being replaced anyway. Did you just use regular throttle body cleaner?

  • @BoostYourLeads True i used just reg. throttle body cleaner that stuff evaporates as soon as you spray it and i asked alot of people before i did it and they said it would be fine.

  • I was told you cannot get solvent of any kind on the IAC. In fact, some sources told me to not even touch the end. The information I found that sounded the most logical, or at least made the most sense to me, was to use a lint free cloth with absolutely no liquid and clean it the best you can. Not sure how well that works, but go to any of the Mitsubishi forums or your Hayes manual, it is VERY clear that you cannot get any solvent on the IAC.

  • @BoostYourLeads My IAC is working fine car hasnt cut off on me since i did this so i dnt think what i used hurt the IAC

  • According to the Hayes Manual, the throttle body cleaner should get no where near the IAC! As a $350 part, I would thing twice about that step.

  • @BoostYourLeads okay then what would you clean it with? i looked two days for a iac valve cleaner and there was none so a million people told that throttle body cleaner was okay

  • According to the Hayes Manual, the throttle body cleaner should get no where near the IAC! As a $350 part, I would thing twice about that step.

  • Hey I wonder if this will fix the problem I have with my car. I have a 2000 Eclipse that I bought used 4 years ago. It has 160K miles on it.

The problem I have is that when I crank the car on, it immediately dies. If I give it some gas while Im cranking it up, the car will run fine. In other words, I have to keep the rpm at a descent level for the engine to stay on. If its in Drive , or Park and I release the gas pedal, the RPM will go down and the engine will shut off. Ima give this a try.

  • @fiberopticsrld OMG 160k my car started cutting off on me at 142k and i did this and it fixed that problem so yes do what i did in the video.IAC valve is over $300.00 this way is alot cheaper. If you have any questions just ask

  • @usc5299 Yeah, I tried that Today. Went and bought the same products from AutoZone sprayed and cleaned everything off. I also removed the battery. I noticed that when I finished and get everything put back together. The car idle and ran fine. I was able to release the gas and the engine didnt cut off. After driving for about 15 min I could hear the engine low idleing again and back to where I started. Looks like IAC is dead.

  • @fiberopticsrld IAC may be dead but it may have clogged up again after you cleaned it from the gunk left in the lines so try cleaning it one more time and if it still does it then you may have to buy a iac valve sorry

  • @usc5299 Hey do you have a Android phone and use Google Talk? Can I add you on Google Talk? Its a IM program. Comes with every single android phone.

  • Thanks for this...I have a 2000 Galant LS with V6 so layout under hood is the same.

  • haynes manual says its the IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE

  • Haynes Manual says its the IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE

  • I think the compnent you unscrew from the throttlebody is called Idle control valve

  • Thanks for showing what exctally what to buy to clean the parts with.. How much did that help??? I have a 2002 eclipse and it dies at the red light and stop signs and rail road crosssing and i was wondering if that solves the problem..

  • @ninewiz9 yes it help the idle problem doesnt cut off anymore
