  • Doesn't make sense that there was mewuk to the north in tuolumne to mokelumne in groveland, south of the valley in mariposa. In the central valley itself. And even allthe way to the coast but not in uzumati? Come on people don't b ignorant

  • So if yosemite which comes from the miwok words usumati and uzumati, was not mewuk territory then what was the Paiute or yokut name for the valley. And don't say awaanee. Because awaannee was a village which is also a mewuk word for a big open mouth. The truth is the valley was a mix of people. If all three tribes would unite and stop bitching like children we could get our land back!!!!!

  • Unfortuately, the NPS of Yosemite use lots of Paiute's to document Miwok history. The general public has once again been duped. All they need is the ice cream stand outside of this place...but then again Deleware North has that one...

  • The Village recreation is so fake even you didnt want to read it lol

  • STFU and go back to your own area.

  • Don't meddle in our own tribal area and affairs if you don't know the facts. Most of those claiming to be Southern Sierra Miwuks are not even Miwoks but Yokuts and Paiutes so if you don't meddle in another area if you don't know what is going in OUR OWN tribal area.

  • While Eadward Muybridge, the famous British photographer, was visiting Yosemite he took photos of a PAIUTE village in Yosemite on the shores of the Merced River living in bark houses. Later on the Park service re-created this fake village in the 1970s after those photos, which you can find by Googling Muybridge Yosemite Indian photos. There are no photos of Miwoks living in bark houses in Yosemite Valley, only my people the Paiutes. This history of Yosemite Miwoks is made up and false.

  • This isn't your tribal area mechoopda. So this is none of your business. Get some education before you write what you don't know.

  • The Miwoks were not the first inhabitants of Yosemite. The Miwoks came in with the settlers and the military. They were 'camp followers' who came in after wards. The original people of Yosemite were Mono Paiutes. The photo of the family with the horse is the Bill family. They are full blooded Yosemite-Mono Lake Paiutes. Miwoks were in fact the scouts for the white militia called the Mariposa Battalion. The "Miwok" village is patterned after Muybridge photos of a Paiute village. It's all fake.
