It's a long time since you posted this, but I just discovered this today while searching for a video to show my fifth grade class that would address the offensiveness, and the rationale behind it, of throwing around retarded as a word for stupid. Your video is moving and VERY effective, but.....the cartoon clips are not appropriate for a school setting and my students actually couldn't stop laughing at the ET one, so much so that they lost your important messages at the end. Edit and re-post?
Keep doing what you do.... Spreading awareness about this topic and other sensitive areas for people who are different. I have an older brother who has autism, and when people use that phrase I get very upset. You did and outstanding job on this video. I hope that soon phrases such as this one will be abolished. I also appreciate everyone who did not write a hateful comment on this video.
Great job on the video. You look around my age. I'm a 17 year old guy who has an older sister with mental handicaps too. I can't tell you how angry I get when people use that word. But sometimes it feels like there's no way to stop it. It's so ingrained in our society that the word is acceptable that it's like trying to stop a train.
Next spring though my governor is going to be signing a proclamation that I submitted discouraging the use of the word, so maybe some awareness will come out of it
Awesome video. I don't know anyone personally that has special needs, but it still bothers me when people say something is retarded. I ask them to correct it and they say sorry, I meant it's stupid. Even that bothers me! Retarded does not mean stupid. Anyway, they have commercials for the term that's so gay, and I really consider this another phrase that needs to be announced as wrong. Just wanted to voice my opinion. -Scott
I can't believe there aren't any comments posted to this video.
What a wonderful sister and friend you are to recognize this ugly phrase is so accepted by our society. I don't allow that phrase to be used without making sure that the person knows the error of the words. I don't think it's funny or cool at anytime or any one is too important for me to stop them immediately.
Thanks for this video. Keep being your sisters "Security Guard" and thank you again.

Wow... this was a great video! I absolutely can't stand it when people use that word. I was always taught it was a bad word, too!
Really, great video!
