art is an expressive medium EVERYBODY DRAWS DIFFERNTLY, the only trait japanese comic artists share is that the japanese form of comic art is stylized, meaning they dont draw super realistcally, like say comic artists do in america. When you sit down in front of a "learn how 2 draw manga book or video" you DESTROY any originality your art style would have had had you just learned how to draw PROPERLY, like life art.

if there is one thing being exposed to japanese comic art should have taught you people, its that art is truly diverse and there isnt just 1 way to do things. Why are you all trying to conform to this stereotype of japanese artwork? look up the manga-ka taiyo matsumoto and his works, it should be a walk up call for most of you.

@JumpingJackDash Seriously calm down, its a how to video. Not a declaration of what manga should be like. Everybody draws differently, I like Mark's style. and it is clearly labelled above that the background is a scene from miki falls, i dont think people are stupid enough to think all manga backgrounds look the same.

@TheQuintin123456 But, an explanation of the process could be useful in any background. So the fact that we can't hear it is pretty lame. When you can't hear what he's doing you're lacking in some details and proper learning experience.

art is an expressive medium EVERYBODY DRAWS DIFFERNTLY, the only trait japanese comic artists share is that the japanese form of comic art is stylized, meaning they dont draw super realistcally, like say comic artists do in america. When you sit down in front of a "learn how 2 draw manga book or video" you DESTROY any originality your art style would have had had you just learned how to draw PROPERLY, like life art.

whats even more hilarious is that thousands of children are taking advice on how to draw "manga" from a person who isnt even japanese??? WTF? if there was such a thing as "manga backgrounds" why would mark crilley know how to do it?, i honestly dont understand you people, you read tons of manga everyday and do you see any two thats drawn identically?

@Gladiator310 i think u missed jumpingjackdash's point entirely, there ARE no such things as "manga backgrounds". how can there be? you simply draw backgrounds. saying this is a "manga" backgrond just limits and constrains the art because people will then think they have to draw like this and that if they want there art to be considered "manga"

If people feel comfortable drawing "manga" backgrounds, or simply calling it like that, then you should respect it. All art is beautiful. You should respect their work even if it's a "manga" background. :) I dont want to really argue from this point on, because your comment was 9 months ago. I just had to say this.

mark crilley i respect you, but why are you misleading these clueless children? what in the name of FUCK is a "manga background" how can such a thing be possible? are you actually saying Japanese manga-kas draw backgrounds a certain way that seperates them from backgrounds drawn by other artists? lets not forget that the word "manga" means comic and does NOT actually denote a certain drawing style.
