Timelines are not possible from a military strategy perspective because any time line must be based on objectives being met and nobody can ever say for sure with confidence how long it will take to meet the prescribed objectives to successfully disengage from the battlefield. The enemy can then dig in or melt away into the population and wait, giving the appearance that they no longer are a viable threat and giving the appearance that we met our objectives.

we've lost more than 800 troops. however its still ridiculously low casuality wise. We lost more men at Normandy than at in the entirety of the war. However it does bleed our resources. we need to cut a deal with the moderate taliban and establish an acceptable muslim dictatorship there while pursuing Al Queda ruthlessly world wide. We'll give the war another 2-4 years before we throw in the towel, hopefully we end it well.

'lack of funds" is used in my comments and I do not see any reference to 'pulling out'. We were never "pulled in" during that time to pull out, it was just small intel group anyhow. Issue is again funds for education, government services etc. Expectation here is very much same that military presence has little to achieve but we simply cannot cut the funds because the military is out similar to 85-87 which in my opinion was a cause behind 9/11 making Afghanistan a heaven for camps.

The goal of the war is a state of continuous high profits for defense contractors. Defense contractors want a continuous state of war as the status-quo. If we had real campaign finance reform and the only voices that mattered are voters, then I a much less violent and more permanent solution to Afghanistan would be found sooner rather than later. Does anyone remember what happened to the Soviet Union when they were fighting in Afganistan in the 1980s? How come none of our politicians seem to remember the result of that conflict?
Fucking politicians. Even Sanders, probably the most radical American politician since Eugene Debbs, can't come out and tell the unfiltered truth about the war. Look at the statistics he gives: 800 American troops dead, and a few billion dollars wasted, Did he forget to mention the tens of thousands, or quite possibly hundreds of thousands of dead Afghanis? Why didn't he mention the drone attacks, with their 3:1 civilian:militant death ratio?
I voted for Obama, but he said during the campaign that our focus should be AF. No surprises here.
Like health care. Hillary's plan was much better. Obama is fulfilling his campaign promises as stated in his run to the WH. I am not surprised nor am I that happy but I still think he was the best candidate in the field.
Obama knows it's a pointless war that will go on for as long as he wants it to. He has the troops in Afghanistan just to keep the military lobby off his back, better be there than bombing Iran & starting another cold war with Russia like McCain wanted

We should just withdrawl now ... Timelines are not possible from a military strategy perspective because any time line must be based on objectives being met and nobody can ever say for sure with confidence how long it will take to meet the prescribed objectives to successfully disengage from the battlefield. The enemy can then dig in or melt away into the population and wait, giving the appearance that they no longer are a viable threat and giving the appearance that we met our objectives.

We "now" know that Afghanistan is producing huge amounts of opium poppies? It was the US troops under the direction of Rumsfeld that made them tear up the food fields and replace them with poppies. The Taliban actually made the Afghanies plow under poppies and plant food, but not for humanitarian reasons. we've lost more than 800 troops. however its still ridiculously low casuality wise. We lost more men at Normandy than at in the entirety of the war. However it does bleed our resources. we need to cut a deal with the moderate taliban and establish an acceptable muslim dictatorship there while pursuing Al Queda ruthlessly world wide. We'll give the war another 2-4 years before we throw in the towel, hopefully we end it well.

We saved Europe from Germany twice, we saved South Korea from communist North Korea, we defeated the evil communist Soviet Union (without killing anybody i might add), we saved Kuwaitis from the evil dictator Saddam Hussein, we liberated Iraq from Saddam Hussein. Yes, we have killed many people, but it was all for good. We didnt try to take over all kind of countries & establish a world empire & commit genocide on our own ppl. I am not a Republican so i am not defending them at all, but your facts are wrong. Our GDP was $91.2 billion in 1930 and increased $2.69 trillion in 50 years all the way up to 1980. Since 1980, our GDP has increased by $11.28 trillion in almost 30 years. Thats an increase of seven times in just 29 years when in the previous 50 years it wasnt even close to that. Reagan's policies did work

With $700 GDP/capita and 44.5% of the Country in the age of 1-14, we better not make the same dumb mistake of 85-87. A 20 Million/year spent on education and services in those days most likely saved us from 9/11 attacks as well as a stable Afganistan now. I hope "The Exit Strategy" is much more aware of this fact, unlike the past one, that we are not up for another terorist open ground.

Regardless of commission's report, lack of funds to Afgans after 85 had a major role in 9/11 is just common sense and commission report is irrelevant is my point. 'lack of funds" is used in my comments and I do not see any reference to 'pulling out'. We were never "pulled in" during that time to pull out, it was just small intel group anyhow. Issue is again funds for education, government services etc. Expectation here is very much same that military presence has little to achieve but we simply cannot cut the funds because the military is out similar to 85-87 which in my opinion was a cause behind 9/11 making Afghanistan a heaven for camps.

The goal of the war is a state of continuous high profits for defense contractors. Defense contractors want a continuous state of war as the status-quo. If we had real campaign finance reform and the only voices that mattered are voters, then I a much less violent and more permanent solution to Afghanistan would be found sooner rather than later. Our present situation has some elected public officials representing the wishes of big industry over the voters who elected them. This has to stop.
