This is a fun application to play around with, but it definitely discourages some people, which I feel is wrong. Without reviewing the essays that the person has written and observing the college interview, there is really no way this can be accurate at all. I scored a 25% chance of acceptance to Harvard and a 93% chance of acceptance to Vanderbilt, while a friend scored 50% at Harvard and 0.7% at Vanderbilt. Considering they have similar admissions standards, I think this shows that it's flawed
I entered my stats at this website, and even with a 3.7, it says I have like a 40% chance of getting in to harvard, which is wrong. I may have 2220 on my SAT's, but if half of PERFECT applicants are rejected, I don't see myself getting in there.
College admissions aren't simply stats based. They're very focused on ECs and essays, so I'm wary of the accuracy of this - might be fun to try though. Harvard rejects 50% of the perfect scoring applicants.
i kind agree with angrylittlegirl, there is something that is missing in that website that many colleges take into account, its the "rigor of secondary school record" aka its how many challenging classes u take (honors, ap), colleges want to see that uve taken challenging courses in order to prepare urself for college
You're right - without knowing how rigorous your schedule has been, it's hard to say what's going on. That's why we ask you to enter SAT IIs, APs, and select your high school from a list of ~32,000 schools. Those are some of the best proxies for achievement, and the upside is that they are standardized across all high schools (so a 5 on AP English from school X means exactly as much as a 5 on AP English at school Y).
Thanks for voicing your concerns, AngryLittleGirl. Actually, the Boston University admissions website (web.bu. edu/admissions/apply/faqanswers.html) says their 50th percentile (= average) GPA is 3.6.
Our site predicts that BU's 25th percentile is 3.53 and the 75th percentile is 3.70. These numbers are actually strikingly accurate - moreso than even I would have predicted.
This was the worst website ever. It only bases the chances against other people who use the website and it also assumes that the people are telling the truth. Take BU for example. The real ave. GPA is 3.5 but the website says it is way higher. Just an all around waste of time.
I'm glad you found it helpful. Good luck at Harvard when the time comes to apply. As far as this video goes, I'll do an updated version in the future (clearer video, vocal explanations of what's happening onscreen, etc).
