Primary reason for children on the streets is that too many people are producing too many kids. Rubber would help. It's a dilemma. Helping means encouraging people te reproduce even more (like in Africa). Under natural conditions, the part of the people who can't feed themselves would die making further reproduction impossible. The ones who had fun while producing kids should also cope with the consequences. At the end this isn't a natural disaster. It's man made. Why interfere?

We have over 17,000 islands, 1.9 million square kilometers of land in 3 million square kilometers of water. The 5 million you're talking about can pick and choose which island they want. That being said, poverty is a prevalent problem in the republic, but it is merely a symptom. The problem is official corruption that has been so deeply ingrained in the culture.

Wow, very touching to see how many children are affected by poverty in Indonesia my birth place until 8. Now, all ground up in America, I want to do something about this. What can I do? Let me know. this was the very reason why I had such a difficult time in Indonesia. Gave some children peanuts one day and the people I was with scolded me told me it was dangerous. they are ignored. The gov't does very little for the welfare of it's people. Neither does the rich.
