Are there any voice teachers out there? What is he doing wrong? I can hear there is no support but is he using the nose as a resonator? I want to learn from this and not attack a singer.
Dite quello che volete, non è un vero professionista e amante del belcanto. Se lo era non se ne andava dal palco neanche se crollava. Continuava con la voce che aveva e con i "buu" della sala. Che dire l'esecuzione è orribile, nulla tolgo a lui, che su altre è stato magnifico ma onestamente qui pecca di tutto. Niente registro acuto, niente "voce in maschera", sbagliata impostazione della bocca, e per di più sgolato.

What is that second "vicino al sol"? That is not written. This role is way too dramatic for him. It's not a disaster, but you can notice he is not comfortable singing it, and this is passed on to the listener, who cannot listen to it an enjoy. Also, some of the notes around the passagio are "crescenti".
Es el mas grande error que comenten muchos cantantes líricos cuando ya se ven la cúspide de su fama de cantar papeles operáticos que no le encajan a su configuracion de voz. Alagna es un tenor lírico pero Radames de Aida es un rol sumamente dramático y con buena razon tiende a desubicar la naturalidad de la voz. Es como tratar de cantar los papeles wagnerianos con un resultado estrepitoso. Los cantantes de la nueva generacion deben poner mucho cuidado en este detalle.
Giacomini a 70 anni canta meglio!Voce tremula...sembra che la voce non abbia una punta!Bho...non so che dire...potenzialmente alagna poteva essere immenso..ma sinceramente da diversi anni a questa parte..è solo una vergogna...ripeto ancora..che tritezza!
Alagna performed this with professional quality, but this role is simply too heavy for his lyric voice. Directors and managers tend to encourage vocalists to stretch beyond their given talents with sometimes disasterous results. While I like some things about Alagna, he simply does not possess a technique sound enough for the heavier roles he sings.
Reminds me of what Anna Russell said about dramatic sopranos: "A great many singers, no matter how charming, flexible, or nice their voice as it is, will strain every nerve to make themselves into dramatic sopranos, thereby ruining the very nice voice they already have." I think the same could be said of tenors. Carreras ruined his gorgeous lyric tenor by singing spinto, and Alagna is going the same way. I think the same also happened to Villazon, who started singing stuff too heavy for him.
I'm trying to find fault with this performance and can find none. I love his passionate declaration. Different strokes for different folks. I love it!

The voice sounds put on and it is. Alagna is trying to darken his voice to fit this spinto role and end up being a joke. The Bflat in the end is painful to listen. La Scala is not the place for such nonsense. No wonder he was booed off of the stage, and rightfully so.
Non posso annoverare Alagna tra i tenori da me preferiti ma purtroppo il panorama mondiale odierno ci offre lui e molti altri peggiori di lui. Giorni fa ero alla SCALA alla PRIMA di Aida 2009, volevo morire dalla vergogna!! , se Alagna è stato fischiato, sabato scorso si dovevano tirare pomodori, ma non solo al tenore, ma anche e soprattutto al Direttore, perchè non dimentichiamo una cosa : Sono i Direttori a fare le audizioni agli artisti. e qui, ahimè, ci sarebbe molto da dire......
@musetta67 Sono perfettamente dello stesso avviso! Anche io ero alla Scala a giugno 2009, non alla prima ma alla seconda recita. Se hanno fischiato Alagna, la sera in cui c'ero io se ne sarebbero dovuti andare, lasciando la Scala vuota! A parte il soprano (voce piccola ma bella, buone intenzioni, bel fraseggio, buone doti recitative) il resto lasciava molto a desiderare; non era certamente degno di un'Aida nel teatro più conosciuto e più importante d'Italia! Magari ci fosse stato Alagna...

Che Alagna non abbia voce per i ruoli drammatici è una grossa idiozia. Ciò non toglie che questa esecuzione sia terribile.

The tone is really artificial I'm sorry to say. The quality of his voice suffers greatly... The final B flat is painfully ugly imho.

in un altro repertorio la sua voce rende meglio (nemorino per esempio) però non l'ho mai sentito dal vivo a me Alagna piace molto.
