  • @ProtestantThomas THICK IGNORANT PLANTED HUN BASTARD

  • A united Ireland.

  • Dammit, I want to go to Ireland so badly.:'(

Despite with my username saying Irishgirl, I really would love to actually see Ireland myself (down from my family line they originally were from there)! I don't belong in the US, let alone the ghetto town I'm in.>:(

  • Your either Irish, or wish you were!!!

  • I am 13 and from wales but love irish songs. please take a look at my above link. hope you like Fields of Athenry.

......in your face i see you looking at me in a world so close and yet so far away...so near so away you seem in a world i love but yet today im away to where the birds look into my soul...and destiny will carry me in a world so far away....i will follow you today in a world so far away

  • If you want the derinitive version, listen to the graet Luke Kelly and The Dubliners - sung from the soul with no affectations like this!

  • well guess this means i'm a lucky one i was born in the us but top of that my family's familys were from different states what i mean is that my bloodline is better then obamas, i'm british, scottish, irish, german, and french and my grandma when my grandpa moved here from hawaii, oh um military, hes retired now, got devorse with my grandma and thats when my grandma met my papa is part japanese and part hispanic, hes foreighn to.

  • This made me proud to be irish

  • As an ex-pat, this is my favourite song.

  • Mary does this song justice.

  • I always loved the song, but really started to understand it, when I travelled to Ireland and stood at the atlantic coast for the first time...Cliffs of moher...

  • I am an american with NO Irish heritage but I still LOVE your Irish music

  • @lj8576 I hear your mom's had some Irish in her.

  • Beautiful, just beautiful.

  • Yep,excellent

  • very nice song!!

  • Amazinggggg

  • What a fantastic country... greetings from Brazil.

Keep your Catholic faith and you'll always be happy, even in the worst moments (like the ones you had in your history).

  • @oluaprotciv melhor ser ateísta do que ser católico, evangélico ou qualquer outra religião...

  • lovely version

  • Seems there's some intangible something in the blood of so many of us who have ancestral ties to the UK and Ireland that draws us back in a very profound, almost haunting way. Maybe our Celtic ancestors would have wanted it that way. Mary Black, what a beautiful woman.

  • The Scots are the Irish....we are all the same...I am crying listening to this, it breaks my heart!!!

  • @Winterlightsky not really : / the scot have irish (gael) in them and picket and britons viking norman even english

  • @258mickey

Scots are Irish immigrants who amalgamated with the Picts to produce the 'Scottish' nation....but we are Irish in origin....even the Gaelic is almost identical!

  • I am serving in the US Army right now. After my contract is over, I am going back to Great-grandfathers homeland to move there for good...

  • @indiemusicreview i wouldn't bother my friend no jobs and eveything has sky high prices

  • @aidolirish ha, same thing in the failing USofA. I think I'll make plenty country building, fighting a made up enemy and obeying the orders of the incompetent and clueless leaders above me to exist for awhile...

  • @aidolirish plus the call of Ireland is to loud to ignore... My heritage is from there and I want to leave the USA and go back to where they are from. I didn't live here as a boy and teenager and can't stand the arrogance and ignorance of the Americans. I joined the army to learn a skill and when I'm done "defending" America, I'm done for good...

  • @indiemusicreview start saving those EUROS its expensive and hardly any jobs. I love Ireland.

  • this song is for you nan x rip

  • Jesus H!

  • I dont believe that 2012 will be the end of the world... I KNOW FOR SURE IT WONT.

I've been checking all of those dumb predictions and there should've been wars in 2008 and earthquakes on the whole earth in 2009. Nothing of this has happened, so stop saying 2012 is real. The world will keep go round. Sadly.

  • IRISH FLOOD VICTIMS GET 70MILLION FOREIGN COUNTRIES GET 100MILLION FROM IRISH GOV.

    Source:Irish Times 12/12/09.

We are sending 100million to foreign countries like Bangladesh for the climate change bill. Our own ppl get 70million. We also send millions on top of that in aid.

Bangladesh has a bigger military than the Irish army, Pakistan has a nuclear weapons programme and India is sending rockets to the moon. Meanwhile we pay for their poor. Would they help us if the roles were reversed?

  • @waaeaa

    no, only the americans would

  • as nice as this is have a listen to Luke Kellys version -- it makes my heart jump for joy as well as tears it apart all at the same time -- what more can i say -- gone but never forgotten R.I.P. Luke

  • this is the corrs, their from wales

  • I dont think so!

  • Ireland and her people are truly some of the most special in the world.

  • DANGEROUS IMMIGRANTS 'ALLOWED' INTO BRITAIN, INCLUDING TALIBAN -- LEFTIE GOV. COVER UP.

A senior immigration official said that his staff were to be "encouraged to take risks" when granting visas. The cover-up by the Labour Gov. of this policy was so concerted, the Information Commissioners sent in investigators into the Labour Home Office. In late 2001, more than 20 Taliban who fled Afghanistan after their defeat by U.S & U.K forces were allowed to stay in the U.K

  • A rich and bloody history. Ireland naver asked to be a part of the UK, but that did not stop the UK from taking over. By your logic America should have ramaind a colony of the UK as well. There was rich history there too. Well Ireland is, in most respects, not a part of the UK, and now there can be peace between the Irish and the English. Something I am glad to see in my life time. Ireland stayed neutral durring WWII, but so did Sweeden. As for the rest. Don't be mean.

  • awesome vioce!:)

  • Shame she so rarely sings it now Thanks for post the lot of good memories

  • Music heals.

  • i prefer the live version. thanks to whoever sent it to me. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. i will always sing a song for ireland. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • that means, that you are proud, because the yountry is so beauty?

so i can also say, my homeland... my village is very beauty. but if only my village beauty, i am not proud of my whole country.

  • I was recently in sligo on the west coast of ireland staying with my grandparents. my cousin and a few friends took me out on a bout to coney island. as i watched the sun go down behind the opel green sea leaving behind a golden trail of light illumintating the little streams through old fields and mountains, this song came to mind. we are blessed to live in such beauty.

  • Does "proud" the right term for this kind of feeling?

I'm French. Born and raised here. I feel the ground under my feet is mine and would fight for it but I'm not proud to be french. Not ashamed either. I think it is because the homeland and the country are two different things. Land is made of earth, rocks, trees and grass. Country is only issued of politics.

  • I totally agree with you. I'm Italian, born and raised here, but my soul's Irish, and it isn't Italian at all. [Sorry for bad English ^_^]

  • that's good! i really want to understand. i'm very interested in such things. in school we have the subject "ireland" and i hope is can learn a lot about your country!

  • aaah. you forget that i am german :-D i do not understand all the things you wrote...

i only want to say, i am not the generation of hitler and i do not indentify with him. but i am not proud of my homeland.

and Hot5puri... sorry, but i do not understand...

  • I would take the time to explain what it is like to have pride in where you come from - but it will only confuse you as you do not seem to have any pride in your homeland.

I suppose the other posters on here will understand what I'm saying and maybe they can explain to you what its like to have pride in your country of birth!

  • Burger,

There should be no shame with having a National identity. Most people where ever they hail from express pride in their country of birth.

My wife hails from Ennistymon - County Clare and I would never dare say that she shouldn't express pride in the country where she was born.

Just like she would not think of questioning my loyalty to the Queen and England.

  • well for 1 thing burger. we didnt have hitler as a leader of out country.

  • mhm. but isn't it an "accident" to be irish or german?

  • one question,

why are you all so proud to be irish?

i am not proud to be german. why you?

  • I wish I were irish.. but ireland is in my heart

  • My grandparents were Irish and i love Ireland!!

  • I'm not Irish but my wife is.

I love every second I visit the Emerald Isle each summer.

  • proud to be irish

  • i have lived in ireland all my life and am a big fan of mary and francis black. love this song

  • This song is so beautiful. I love Ireland, my father is Irish.

  • i'm a 1/4 irish and i'm so proud to be from the country, it's a beautiful peaceful place with amazing people.

  • my father was from waterford, and both of his brothers still live there. one in annestown, and one in bonmahon. i love the west of ireland. so rugged and beautiful. my mother is from cavan, swanlibar...on the boader/enniskillen

  • that's an anthem, The Anthem. Love this song, love Ireland...

  • I absolutely ADORE this song! While in Ireland I kept hearing it over and over in a gift shop and just had to buy it.

  • i'm scottish but i wish i was irish i love the place

  • Well if you are Scottish there's a strong chance you are Irish in part at least.

There is so much to admire about Eire, it's a wonderful place.

  • Yup, me great-great grandfather was from

the Old Sod. But he had a Scottish name.

Who knows. Just about anybody in the UK

    may have Viking ancestors.

Better for folks to sing than fight. Not too likely though.

    tx 4 posting

  • Whats a Scottish name?

I have Viking, Norman, & Scottish, which are Irish originally...

and the Celts were part of the 10 lost tribes of Israel, so I guess I am a semite.

Its an amazing feeling, to belong & Scotland and Eire are special places.

  • @westlife20 - I love Ireland too, but to say "I'm scottish but I wish I was Irish ..." is a disgrace to your country! But then with a user name like "westlife" explains a lot .. you'll be female for a start!

  • @westlife20 Scotland is a great country and is not less than Ireland you should be ashamed of yourself. I'm Scots Irish and love both countries equally.

  • @westlife20 you wont after you've seen what your bank has done to us.

  • @westlife20 ,you know, stay the scottish, you xan love it anyway, but I was born Czech,a udaler`s son,and the song much mean to me because I came here and I`ve been living here,on the west of beloved Ireland and I see....I became a freeman nearly late, but I did...Thanks a million,Irish,I may be here and free....

  • Mary Black, has a beautiful and an amazing voice. Thanks for this video.

  • Sharon Reel does a good version

  • Mary is to me what Sandy Denny is to her .

  • Must be a lucky country having such women and singers!

  • I saw a man get up and sing this unaccompanied in the Irish Centre, Hammersmith; I don't think he was a pro singer but he did a grand job. It was pure and simple and very moving. This vid is very emotive too, it's a great song.

  • Love that song - great version.

Would anyone happen to have a clip of

Mary Black & Ralph McTell singing it ?

I know they did some time ago (80's, I think).

Btw. What a weird TV format they have in Ireland - is that the rare 9:16 format ? ;-)

  • No i don't have that one with Mary & Ralph singing it, though i would like to hear ir if anybody else has it.

that was my fault it was the way i recorded it, i recorded it from a portable tv that has a built-in video player, onto a a dvd player that was is connected to a wide screen tv, and when you upload it to YT the film comes up as the same size as the portable tv screen, and i can't get it to come up as widescreen. i don't do it now. thanks for the comment

  • Ok, thanks - but please keep any eye out for it - I have only heard Ralph play it on his own, and would love to hear them together.

Ah, yes - it's to make it look natural on the wide screen, while still using all the horizontal lines - called "anamorphic 16:9" format.

  • Maybe you have seen some TV-stations that broadcast in this format where the image then looks way too tall on a normal TV ( as it does here on YT ) ? - unless it's relatively new and has compensation for this.

You may be able to find (free) video software that can "de-anamorph" this video into a normal 4:3 format - I guess the great, free and very versatile media conversion programme called Super will be able to do it.

  • believe it or not, this was written by an englishman. they're not all bad you know.

  • Full marks--thanks for this!!

  • Makes me feel homesick for Ireland... and I wasn't even born there! Erin go bragh!

  • You too ??

  • A 'pretty' version of the song - but only the late, great Luke Kelly can put real meaning to the words - hang on to his every word. Such a shame that talent was taken from us all too soon. Luke Kelly is Ireland.

  • born in the north of ireland, yet a song like this strikes so deep into my heart, knowing what the british have done to my beautiful country! irish for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree..i feel the same.

love this song..sooo much! Mary Black is a ledgend!

  • Well said. I have to agree with you! And Britain, at times, has gone to far....

remember this? "God brought the blight, but the English brought the famine!" As true as that may be...We do have to forgive the English, after all ,that's the Christian this to do, yea? It's hard, I know...And you are right......

    ERIN GO BRAGH!

    Dia duit friend!

  • best version i have heard ever

  • thts so calmin!! its amazin:)

    Sáoirse

  • Very Beautiful 5/**

  • Thank you for the comment.

  • Ireland conquers her conquerors and keeps the hearts of her emigrants and their children. My great-great-great-grandfather came to Georgia, USA from County Carlow almost 200 years ago. I've never visited the Emerald Isle. I am less Irish than a lot of people with Irish surnames, but I love Ireland. These Irish singers, dancers, and poets seem so familiar, even if they are distant. As Wm. Faulkner said, "The past is never dead. It's not even past."

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • Truly beautiful. You speak for so many in the Diaspora.

  • @cosette2193 Thank you for your beautiful remarks. You've described how I often feel about my mother's people, who came from Wales, and my Dad's, too, who came across from Devon.

  • verry beauty song

  • is someone born of two irish parents, with every decendant evermore from Ireland for at least the last 1500 years but born in Australia constitute an irishman or an Australian?

  • outstanding!

  • OMG...The man may be a city boy born and bred. From the dark waters of the River Mersey to Londons Thames but his parents where Wicklow Irish and though he is grown and listens to rock and dance he can be caught by a song such as this and his celtic soul flies back to the old green and a lump catches his throat and brings a tear to his eye for his past heritage of song and beautiful country......Thanks for posting..long live the Clancy Brothers...

  • what a great tune, only the irish can sound like that. beautiful ireland.

  • Luke Kelly's version is the definitive one --go listen to it -- ahhhh heart breaking --such passion -- some day i will again stand on Blackrock strand and sing this to the waves.

  • I'm not Irish myself, but I love the country, its people and it's rich culture and history

    Lovely song

    Éirinn go Brágh

  • The raging Atlantic ocean Rushes its waves ashore, Pounding the rocks and cliffs, And rises the white mist High up in the sky And mixes with the wind That blows ferociously from afar And falls on the rugged, barren, cold land Wetting the dark cliffs and lands and shores Ah, you Ireland, don't cry Over the cruelly cold sea wind O, You, Ireland, strong and beautiful That stands alone in the roaring sea You, the majesty of lone spirit Long, long live Ireland!
  • This song takes me to a far away land. Such a beautiful song and video.

He played a reel that seamed so grand and gay,

stood on dingle beach and cast,

In wild foam for Atlantic bass,

    Living on your western shore,

Saw summer sunsets, asked for more,

I stood by your Atlantic Sea,

And sang a song for Ireland

  • Why do people always want to compare? There is just one thing to say:this song is moving...so moving that it brings tears....and I am French... Ireland, what a fantastic country! I know I will go back there as soon as I can.

  • Byes for the Basque Country. Up Ireland!!!!!

  • This is a beautiful song, well sung and accompanied by a good video. Luke Kelly was a great singer too. To praise one is not to diminish the other. It is sad to see Luke and Mary fans turning this
