This video was made in the early 90's by the Airborne and Special Ops Test Directorate. I know because I was one of the videographers for it. I think it was for a new static line store mod. At the time there were many injuries involving the static line. I left the service before the tests were completed so I don't know if the mod ever went into use.

Marine Recon does do static line jumps. They have to jump every 30 days like everyone else. These are usually static line jumps unless the training schedule causes a deviation. Also, one more thing. When you've actually been in the sh*t with a combined forces mission, all the inter-service rivaly crap goes out the window. Makes it easy to tell who the airborne jeep pool and cooks are!

Any Marine jumper knows we don't jump like that... This is the Van Halen Jump video that was actually not bad... Marines don't mass-tac jump since we are a very small element. Less than 1% of Marines are Paratroopers. You may have a few Leathernecks jump with the Army if they are with ANGLICO units (Advanced Naval Gunfire Liason Company) but that was back in the day when ANGLICO supported ARMY units. I don't think they do anymore. Either way, it's a great video. Army knows their para-assault...

Don't know why everyone is talking bout this being a bad jump....if you walk away it was a good one....One thing I did notice was the jumpmaster only looked to the rear before giving the stand in the door command...should've looked 360...he didn't hang out very far either...as far as twists go...shit happens...not all will be perfect...I only had 63 jumps though...needed two more for my master wings but said screw it..senior wings look fine to me. Actually lostyas, you didn't see many 82nd patches because the right shoulder is where combat patches go. I saw three 82nd Div and one 10th Mtn Div patch but I doubt the rest were Marines. I believe the Marines were wearing the old jungle cammies (lighter green) that I wore in Panama with the 7th Special Forces Group in 1974-75.

the falling technique is called a Parachute Landing Fall or PLF for short...its the technique used when you hit the ground so you leave the drop zone in one piece, with those parachutes you fall at 18-22 feet per second... so you can hit the ground pretty hard

As a retired Paratrooper and Jump Master with over 375 jumps both static line and HALO, I'd have to say what you are seeing here is how not to conduct an Airborne operation. Jumpers did not keep 1 second interval which could result in entanglments, multiple jumpers had incorrect body position that resulted in twisted risers thus no control of decent. Jump Master did not control static lines, jumpers were throwing them at him. Hopefully nobody got hurt on this operation.

Yea I just completed the school and what you saw in this video is BAD example, if one of those lines got caught on a guys head or arm it would have been a very bad day for them, thats why the blackhats say extend your arm and DONT drop the static line cause extending your arms gives you that interval that your going to need when you jump
