  • Hi John, I have been interested in getting a metal bodied resonator and love the look, sound and price of these Republic guitars but worry about weight. How heavy are they and do you notice the weight? I enjoy your playing always. Cheers, Mark.

  • @ShovelnTC

Hey! Thanks for the comment. These smaller bodied reso's are somewhat lighter in weight compared to the bigger ones! But still, they are heavy compared to any ordinary wood body acoustic, much heavier but not too heavy!!! I carry these around all year round, no problem.. :-)

  • wow man that's a great looking and sounding guitar. and I don't even play guitar

  • Do you know know how wide the nut is? and the fret board radius?

  • Heya frm far away seas in New Zealand.

    Great craftmanship of this instrument.

Lookin to get myself one of these. Question ... do you have or have you played the Nickel / Brass version of this and how does it differ in tone??? .. does it / would it have a slightly more Bango tone to it ???. Maybe U have a link to hear it.

    Many Thanks again

P.S One little thing as a Television Location Sound recordist , that Bad Boy Clock in the BG is a clanker just alittle distracting nice 2 have it clean

  • What brand of strings do you use.

  • Thanks for the quick response! I didn't realize the HWY 61 was smaller, that one is also nice from your video. Thanks for suggesting this!!

  • @virgilh1

It's shorter than the Resolian, the tone is big though, and for a travel reso guitar, there's nothing like it!! (apart from some expensive custom made instruments)

My videos give a fairly good idea of how it sounds and performs..

Good luck with finding your guitar!!

  • Hi, this sounds really great. I have a Republic Tricone, but it is too big to take to Afghanistan. Which of the various Parlor resolians would you recommend, I am not sure about the nuances between them all. Thanks

  • @virgilh1

If you're travelling then maybe the Highway 61 could be the choice for you!? It's shorter and THE ultimate travel resonator guitar!!!!

  • Have you seen the new one with Burlwood finish, beautiful

  • Something about playing poor people's music on vintage big dollar instruments really rubs me the wrong way. Let the country guys have the the Taylors and old Martins and Gibsons....The blues belong on THIS working man's guitar. VIVA REPUBLIC!

  • @PeluMaad

This sure is an instrument for a poor bluesman's budget, haha! So much tone for relatively little money.. I love it!

  • @PeluMaad I was thinking the same thing myself just an hour ago. You are right on!!!

    -=tabby

  • Wow, it sounds amazing in your hands, but I bet most any kind of tin can would... Awesome playing!

  • @BaronK69

    Thank you very much!

  • i love to listen to this while i drink shine , its relaxing

  • @HondaSuperSport1100

The SHINE is relaxing I'm sure, LoL!!!

  • the neck most likely looks a lot wider than it is, great sound from it though.

  • sounds great :-)

  • What kind of strings do you recommend ? I have a full-size Resorelic...love your playing I almost picked one of these up when I got my Reso...think I will now man you it going on.

  • Thanks!!

    I use 0.15-0.58 for open tunings in G & D. For open E & A I usually go for 0.12-0.54..!!

You'll love a Resolian for sure!!

  • John, is this the reso-relic parlor size guitar? Awesome playing!

  • Yes it is!! Very nice vintage patina!

    Thanks!!

  • Good going there.

  • May be the most beautiful slide piece I've ever heard. GREAT JOB!! What tuning is it in????

  • Thank you very much!!

So happy to hear that you appreciate my playing!

    It's open D tuning here..

  • I love it - your playing and the guitar

  • Thanks a lot, Smojomusic!!!

It's great to hear that people like my music!

You've got some cool Cigarboxguitars, would love to try one of those someday!!!

  • Hej!

  • Tänk efter ett års slajdande, haha!!!

  • Lillfingret kommer stå spikrakt och vara icke-funktionellt. =P

  • Very very nice!

    Great playin' BottleneckJohn

Thanks for sharing it with us.

    :>)

  • Thank you very, very much!!

Great to have you here watching this clip!!

  • I like your style its great, the muzic is good for the soul

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • What's the tuning? Nice

  • Thanks!

    This is open D..

  • great!

  • Did you buy your slider or make it yourself?

  • I think this is one of my very own "wine-bottle-bottlenecks"..

I have made a few that I like!!

  • I gotta try making one myself. :)

  • YES!!!!

  • Hi, sweet playing John!

Could you please tell me how did you cut the neck of the wine bottle? I have one that's been sitting there in my room for months now, just waiting to become a slide "thingy".

    Thanks !

  • I've been using a grindstone! You know, such a thing you use to sharpen knives and stuff in the past..

With a grindstone you can easily cut through the glass and make a fairly smooth and even cut..

    Good luck!!

  • Frank of Republic Guitars sells really great instruments and is a sweet guy who really cares that you are happy with your purchase. Love this little parlor model! Got to get me one fo those! Nice playing!

  • Thanks!

I totally agree!! You should get one too!

  • Nice!

  • Top playing John - Nice guitar too, does it have a high action as standard?

  • Thanks!

Well, the action is great for playing slide, but I actually have raised it a little bit on this one..

But it should work OK for both slide and regular picking..

Tell Frank how you want it set up and I'm sure he'll fix it!!

  • You play with such deep feeling, and this little guitar has outstanding dynamics. Truly moving experience to hear you, John. Peace in music.

  • Thank you very much!!

Really nice comments on my music!!

    Peace!

  • i will have mine soon, i want the same guitar, i love small parlor guitars, bravo for your sound and playin'. what are the exact specifications (your guitar)finish and details please.

thanx a lot Laurent from france

  • Thanks!

    This guitar is a "reso-relic"..

All spec can be found at the Republic Guitars website!!

  • Hi BJ

Yes, a very nice demo, in fact I too was so inspired that I've just ordered one myself.. (you should be paid for this!).. the swamp green version with the relic cover plate, looking forward to its arrival here in the UK.

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with us... !

    Cheers.. John (yes, another one!)

  • Just ordered mine!!! I hope it sounds as good as this one! Wonder how long before it gets here, doesnt realy matter though. Its allready too long :P

  • Cool!!!!

Congrats Fraja1980, it'll sound like this one I'm sure!!

  • I'll know tomorow around 14:00, i missed the darn delivery today!!!!! Didnt expect it to be here in five day's :-S doesnt matter, one more day!

  • this is the sound that takes you back to the dirt roads on a hot delta evening watching the heat waves rising and the sun setting

  • That is an awesome image that I also see in my mind when I play...

    Thanks!

  • As I said on big road house blues forum Nice playing and I see you have a Diamond bottleneck slide.

    Mine should be here tomorrow.

  • Diamond Bottlenecks are THE best there is!!!

    :)

  • Hey Cool!

I didn't know they built this kind of resonator guitar too...

Nice playing too!!! A guitar is nothing without hands and a good musician ;-)

    Cheers from Paris!

    Chris

  • Hi Chris!

As soon as i get it ill send you a clip ;)

  • Wow..... awesome tone!

  • Underbart plåtigt ljud! Inte helt säker på att den låter lika bra i mina händer, dock ... ;-)

  • Haha!! Det gör den säkerligen!!

  • hä......!??

  • Swedish... :)

  • Ok I´ll try : "Jag häller din musik"

    :-)

  • Hmm, I think it all makes sense apart from the word "häller" which means "pouring something", like water.. :)

One more try at the Swedish language please!!

    Bitte!!

  • Ones again :

  • Very cool republic mate.
