These magazines offers a total reliability, lightweight, durability. The spring is so durable than you can put during decades 30 rounds all the time. M16 mags can't take the full capacity from the begining

@Destructoid17 COmpared to stanag magazine, AK magazine are stronger, the spring is most powerful and made of good steel, lips are in thick steel, integrated to the plastic during construction. Yes they are, and IF USA changed the magazine of its M4/16, they would be surprised by the diminuing number of jams, and the pleasure to have really 30 rounds in a 30 rounds magazine.

@Binkeh9 Magazines of AK are far better than M16 stanag ones. They started to made plastic with AKM orange mag in 60's. This mag is in thermoplastic, the color was an atempt to stay in the same king of color than stock and handguards. With AK-74, the AKM mag was modified to 5.45 round shape, but it's strictly the same mag. In 80's a new type of mag was made, in ABS ultraresistant plastic. Orange color has several times been problematic (infiltration)

No, Russia has not produced any polymer furniture for the AKS74U, and never will as it ceased production in 1989, although there may be prototypes. The new folding polymer stocks also wont fit without being modified as the AKS74U hinge pin is 1mm thinner than the standard AK74.

I haven't see any with polymer, but it dosen't mean it isn't out there. It could be done quite easily, but why would you want to? It's only the handguards that are wood, where the pistol grip is bakelite and the stock is steel.

Its a different bullet, the 47 is a 7.62mm and the 74 is a 5.45mm. The two rounds were developed to have completely different effects on impact. The 7.62 was just a shortened rifle round, and the 74's 5.45mm round was developed because the Russians saw what the m16 with its 5.56mm round was doing. The 5.45mm round yaws and flexes when it enters a body causing massive traumatic woulds. The 7.62 will just go straight through a body.
