Some of the film looked like mickey thompsons old funny cars i need to get henry harrison the orignal king of the burnouts to stop bye and check it out this is the best time period for drag racing............period ty for the vid
Man I went there for the super stock Nats back in the 70s I will never forget Shooting pool at the Thomasville Inn with some of the Racers partying with Jungle Jim and helping Big Daddy push his Swamp Rat in the trailer at the end of the day . who drove the Smothers Bros. Super Stock Oldsmobiles back then ?
wanna see something cool, go to the virtual earth satellite image of the airport, you can see the starting line rubber just below the "35" marker on the runway....thats awesome. they should open the place occasionally, the airport has never made much money and cecil county gets 300! cars easily on test and tune night...
i went to us30 in the 70s as a kid, it closed the year i got my license. didnt open for the 79 season if iremember- good to see this, but i drive by the track weekly, and its too close to the highway, always was...google "york airport", is been lengthened some, but its still same really, up until the 90s u could still see the rubber at the starting line.
Got my license in 69, grew up going to Cecil Co. Dragway and York! The absolute best! Great memories watching Jenkins, Sox, Jungle Jim and Pam! Thanks for posting! Visit York US 30 reunion every July and go back in time!
So that is Grumpy Bill Jenkins in the high revving 331 small block Vega, who beat all the Hemi's and took the 72 Winternationals? Great historic footage here.
When Jenkins came out with that small block Vega just about every kid at the local drive thru was "building" a small block Vega! When Mopar started to complain about the little car,Jenkins replied "That's why they call them CHRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYSLERS!!!!"
Pure Americana, man those were the day's !!!. I get chills listening to these bad boy's..Spent alot of sunday afternoons at the drags in upstate N.Y. with my dad..does anybody remember Niagra Dragstrip in Buffalo or Lancaster Speedway, Spencer Speedway, leicester Speedway, Monroe County Fair Grounds, from the early 70's................
