  • I can't believe you're doing this for the first time, well maybe this is what makes your tutorial the best I've ever watched..

You make it look so simple! Thanks!

  • can you use that screen with emulsion you've painted again and wash the screen with water so you can use other color of paint for another shirt??? or emulsion will also be washed by water??? :)))

  • Yes rinse with water and reuse. After a lot of use or printing you may need to touch up the emulsion so the prints come out good. A special emulsion remover is needed to make a new design on the screen.

  • wheres the 1st video??? o_O

  • It's there, I just looked at it. It's not numbered like the rest. It describes what to do on the computer for the artwork to be printed. Print the artwork on clear sheet with a printer. Youtube won't let me copy the link in this reply.

  • @goolsnfc srry ahaha i jst went on ur page.....uhmmm i have another question.... what's the chemical after the photo emulsion?....that one that you mix it with

  • Sorry, I'm not a chemist : ), I don't know what the chemical is. It comes in the emulsion kit. Buy the kit and you'll have everything you need.

  • Awesome!

  • by far the best silk screening tutorial available.

  • were can i buy the emotion paint thingy

  • google is your friend when looking for something.

    Try these.

    silk screen supplies

    emulsion

    photo emulsion

  • man i gotta say not to bad for home made screenprinting probably the best ive seen, i screenprint for a living and that shirt looked pretty good for a simple image print, good job man

  • Man your good! The best Silkscreen printing instruction ever. Thanks!

  • That is some home brew for sure. Pretty cool. Check out my videos for tutorials on screen printing tee shirts. Questions welcome.

  • Could you please upload vid 4 again? Still not working :-/

    Great instructions - tnx!

  • you are awesome...u should make more intructional vids

  • what happened to video 4 ugh thats the one i need to see

  • Don't know....???? I did not take it down. I hope it's just a youtube temp problem.

  • where you get thata squegee

  • Buy it at a fine art store or check you yellow pages for screen printing.

  • this was one of the most fun and inspiring series of how-to's i've seen on youtube. they "hey, why not try this" attitude you've got is infectious. when you finally pulled the screen away to reveal the first print i wanted to give you high five. rock on, man.

  • how many watts are the bulb did you use to burn?

  • I took it out side and used a mirror to reflect sunshine onto the emulsion. Maybe about 90 seconds of moving the suns reflection constantly over the surface and rinsed it right away.

  • Great Job!! you have helped out alot. And I like your avarage "Joe" type of attitude not making it feel that you have to go through 4yrs of college to do one screen print.

    excellent.

  • good job! weeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • all watch all ur video fo the firth time doin it . u did a nice job and thank for the video

  • Seriously Thanks for that series of your silk screen processing. it takes the guess work out for many who don't saave tech talk and clearly makes good production from home style DIY knowledge. Great Job. Keep Up with the study

  • i'm a screen printer and i got to give you credit.. it's not the professional way to do thigs BUT you did a great job for a first attemp with no real equipment. by the way you didn't have to go into lowlight when you coated the screen it only becomes light sensitive after it dries but other than that don't tell other people how to do there own t-shirts i'll be out of a job

    GOOD JOB

  • the screen becoming light sensitive,,,how does this effect your screen??? so if you wanted to keep a screen you made for continual use you would have to store it in a dark place?

  • no once the screen is exsposed it is no longer light sensitive it can be kept anywhere and used over again

  • what kind of ink you use in the tee shirt?

  • The best way to get this ink is to ask at a fine art store or look in the phone book for silk screen supplies. It's fabric ink.

  • when i expose my emulsion in the sunlight. how long it take or how many minutes?

  • I suggest you experiment with a small patch on any fabric. There's too many variables to say exactly in min/sec's. Clouds, time of day, smog, shade, temp....etc will change the time needed.

  • and how many times can you use the same screen print? or do you have to do the whole emolsioun thing again?

  • Not sure but I think most commercial screen print companies print several hundred before they're removing the emulsion for the next design. I'm up to about 40 tee shirts with zero signs of wear.

  • u can do at least 1000 shirts before it wears out

  • you can do 5,710 shirts before you start to see wear.

  • does the entire process take a long time?

and and and how much did it all cost you?

    and thankyou!

  • what do you use to make the screen and how do you get it in the frame?

  • hey how many shirts did you print with that 16oz ink that you had in the video

  • I can't remember. I would guess at least 15 tee's. It's not 16oz, it's 8oz.

  • Thank you for producing a video that is educational without being over detailed or confusing. Silk screening always seemed very intimidating to me, so I have resorted to cutting stencils and using spray paint which gives no where near the detail you have achieved! One question -- what purpose does the black paper serve? Do you place it under the screen while developing the emulsion?

  • I used it to cover a window in the room. It's been a while sense I did this and can't remember if I used it elsewhere. I still use the same screen to make my work shirts. It works great.

  • thank you. honestly i understood the whole tutorial process :) great job.

  • heyy good videos but i don´t understand well you make the frame with the curtain then yu put it the emulsion and how did yu put the transparent printed papers, the black paper and glass..

and what kind of ink yu recommend. i have poor audio

  • hey this was a very good tutorial i will try to make my own. your girlfriend has some pretty good art work!!!

  • Enjoyed your tutorials very much! You made it look easy. Glad to know I can use a ink jet printer. Everyone else said it can not be done. Laser printer only. Thanks for the videos!!

  • I work for a screenprinter and use an inkjet printer every day to make my artwork. I haven't heard you can't use inkjet -- I have always heard you can't use a laser printer. Huh!

  • I live in mexico, and I bought all the professional equipment for a silk screen printing work shop, invest about 6000 dlls, just for hobby, and mi first attempts of printing didin't went as well as yours, may be I wasn't as self confident as you were, congratullations!!

  • i wish you were one of my high school teachers i actually understand everything you said in every video i watched completely faded

  • nice tee shirt turned out good :)

  • I like ur vids, i was contemplating tryin to do it myself, and see if i liked it and since this was ur first time i guess ill have to try it!

    good tutorials too :)

  • amateurish

  • Correct, I am an amateur silk screen maker and user. The video shows my first ever experience and is only intended to help amateurs.

  • Hi

Great vid - you really sounded like you were not sure what u were doing, so makes me less scared of trying.

About setting the ink - would it be good to stck the shirt in a heat press after it's printed?

    Thanks again

  • Follow the directions on your ink label.

  • Where do you get your fabric ink from? Thanks!

  • Fine art or craft store.

  • I did this b4 its so fun right? i juss rote my name with a stencil

  • heat set? how do u heat set ur ink? :)

  • I iron it. Follow the directions on the screen fabric ink.

  • Thanks a lot for this video!! I can't wait to make some shirts for my school. I have a question tho. How long will the ink last? Will it wash off or fade in the wash? What are your reccomendations for washing it, and what would I need to do to get the letters to stay on for- I don't know - maybe a couple years? If that isn't asking to much. Thanks again for this AWESOME vid. 5 Stars

  • Follow the directions on fabric silk screen ink. It will last.

  • I have another question. I've seen people trace the design onto the screen, and then cover the areas they do not want to paint with mod podge glue. Is that what photo emulsion basically does? Makes sort of a "stencil", so you can put the design on the shirt with the ink? Thanks and again great vid.

  • Yes, the process is to make a stencil. Photo emulsion simplifies this task and makes finer image detail easy.

  • OOOH Ok. I was getting a little confused but now I understand completely! Thanks and really fast response.

  • Yes, I made a stencil with the screen and photo emusion. Photo emulsion will allow you to make fine detail easy.

  • Great video's and nice job on the shirts. After all of the other video's I've watched on how too do this ... your's is the only vid's that made sense.

    Thanks, I'm truly grateful :)

  • sweet dude. nice job

  • good nice instructions. i especially like the explanation of the screen. like i said earlier, i use embroidery hoops, and could make a 10" screen for about $2.50. im trying to make some posters for cheap, and i appreciate your instruction.

  • lol 2:22

  • the video really help me alot.. how do u make the pattern??

  • Thanks, I'd read lots of tutorials about screen printing but none of them were as straightforward as this.

  • thanx for the tips thats badass

  • kool i like badass for a first thanx for the tips

  • dont forget to heat set your ink. Or else it will just wash away in the washer.

  • Thanks for the comment. It's always a good idea to read the instructions on any kind of ink or paint.

  • Stretch the shirt over a large piece of foam board. It keeps the ink fom seeping through and stretches away the creases.

  • wash inside out too. And i think you can buy a special type of ink, that you mix with the regular fabic paint, to help the ink on the shirt strech with the shirt. i'm so doing this, this weekend.

  • Hey good video. screen printing is fun, come by and check out our videos for tons of information on screen printing.

  • You can also use opaqe paints as well as emulsion. I would suggest waiting a few days before washing you shirt also.

  • lol.. finding them leaks in the swimming pool

  • ok so thank you... can you explain a little bit more about the sun light exsposure thing... im a little lost there... if i understood right the sun cures the non covered areas and you wash out the rest... can i get the stuff there at hobby lobby? (the emultion supplies and ink) what kind of ink, and about how much am i spending for all of this? thanks for any info you have

  • Good questions.... The ink is your printer ink in your PC printer. You can make your artwork/text on the computer and print it out on clear sheets from the office supply store.

  • Getting the photo emulsion spread on the screen and the correct exposure to light after topping it with your artwork are the hardest parts of the process. It takes some experimenting to get it working correctly. Go to a fine art store to find the supplies. I had to remove the emulsion from the screen one time before I got it working. Be sure to read the directions on the emulsion kit. There are several brands of emulsion and they're all different.

  • If you have a screen print supplier in your area you can get the very fast developing emulsion. I found them under screen printing in the yellow pages. It my be better to use the slow stuff while you build skills. I purchased some of the fast stuff hoping to learn how to use it with out a darkroom. I'll need some luck to get that working. The emulsion brand in the video is Speedball.

  • Emulsion kit $30.00 art store

    screen(curtains) $3.00 family dollar

    ink $8.00 art store

wood and screws for frame $3.00 home depot

  • ok so is there any brand or type of paint/ink (for the print on the shirt) that works better or stays longer (something that i wouldnt have to worry about washing) thanks for the rest, it helped alot

  • fabric ink.....follow the directions. I had to iron the shirts after.

  • WOW!!! Great Video. I'm an art teacher and you have a real knack for teaching. Clear and nice break down of the info. Your T shirt looks great too. Well done!
